the 5th September 1997, I taught a variety of courses at the Diploma, Bachelors, and Postgraduate degrees levels.

(b) I was fully involved in departmental curriculum development and revision. In

this regard, the following are notable:

(i) I worked single-handedly in collaboration with the Head of Department in developing the Department’s M.Phil/Ph.D programmes which have been approved by Council and began in the 1998/99 academic year. This is the first of such programmes to be so approved in the entire Faculty of Education.

(ii) I was a member of the team that revised our Department’s M.Ed programme, modelled after the project/dissertation options.

(c) Research and Seminars

I have been vigorously involved in sharpening the focus of the Department’s research and seminar activities. Toward this end, the following are noteworthy: (i) I was the Chairperson of a Committee that produced the various

editions of the Department of Adult Education Students Research Handbooks.

(ii) With the cooperation of the Head of Department, we put in place two team research groups that looked at two different issues. (iii) I have successfully introduced with the cooperation of the Head of

Department, monthly staff seminars which were academically well focussed and popular providing solid foundations for publication efforts by colleagues.

(d) Graduate Work Supervision

1. Over a period of 20 years, I was privileged to supervise over 20 M.Ed dissertations and served in the research committees of over three Ph.D candidates at the University of Benin, Nigeria. 2. I have been external examiner to over 7 Ph.D candidates at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, two doctoral candidates at UNISA, one doctoral candidate at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and One at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal (UKZN). 3. At the University of Botswana, I was engaged in supervising over ten (10) M.Ed research essays and dissertations. 4. I was an active representative of the Department in the Faculty of Education Research and Publication Committee up till May, 2002. 5. I have examined two Ph.D dissertations for the North West University, Mafikeng Campus, South Africa prior to my assumption of duties here.

I have also helped in the internship supervision programme of the Department of Home Economics at the University of Botswana. Strategy

1. By pursuing the ideal of team spirit, I have led the positioning of the Department as an exceptional success case in the implementation of semesterisation of programmes.

2. We consulted effectively in deciding on want to do in the Department.

3. We work together as equals, and there are no master-servant relationships or authoritarianism in the Department

Market and Outreach:

1. We were able to double the intake of students in our programmes by intensive marketing.

2. We were able to provide our Diploma in Adult Education by adopting the Open and Distance Learning mode.

3. We have been able to maintain links with the Unesco Institute for Lifelong Learning (UILL), the DVV and UNESCO

Academic development:

1. Mentorship has been achieved 100% in the Department of Adult Education, University of Botswana.

2. New programmes have been developed at the Department. For example, the Diploma in NGO Management programme has been established.

3. The Ph.D programme in the Department of Adult Education, University of Botswana has been revamped and is now attracting the interest of many potential students from outside Botswana.

4. The curriculum was effectively monitored to ensure that it responded to new challenges.

Quality:

1. The Department of Adult Education Quality Assurance Team is very active in terms of ensuring that things are done effectively.

2. The staff in the Department of Adult Education, University of Botswana are on top in terms of doing quality research and papers that have been published in international outlets.
