WHAT IS AN EXPERIENCE & SHOWCASEDon’t think booths and banners--this is meant to be a mock wedding and reception! We want to show you the finished product of your planning and the local resources available to you.

In order to familiarize brides with the style that best suits their taste, the outdoor ceremony and indoor reception will be based around Four Styles in the categories of Traditional, Rustic, Vintage, and Glam. Each Team includes a Baker and a Florist, accented by a Hair and Makeup Stylist, and Bridal Formal Wear and Men’s Formal Wear vendors to create these four cohesive styles.

Our wedding guide showcases the area’s best Bridal Vendors and provides wedding tips and planning advice to assist you in the most important day of your life. Best wishes on your big day!

BEFORE THE BIG DAY

Relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy every minute of the planning. Enjoy being engaged before you rush into all of the planning details. Allison Cooke | Terrace View Bride

It’s never too early to start booking your vendors. They fill up very quickly, and it’s the best way to get your top choices and allow for enough time to browse. Also, enjoy the process and keep the stress to a minimum. Things WILL work out, even if there is a hiccup or two. And make a conscious effort to “take it all in” on your wedding day. It goes by in the blink of an eye!Jolene Harris | Terrace View Bride

It’s easy to lose track of what you’re spending when the cash is flowing out fast and furiously, but this worksheet can make money matters much easier to manage. It has every detail covered, complete with a breakdown of items to consider in each budget category.

“The best way to create a budget is to determine what is most important to you and your future spouse. Once you have done this, decide the key elements, such as the ceremony and reception venue. With the big decisions out of the way, all of the other details will start to fall into place.” Ashley Viet, Signature Event Consulting

Plan your tipping ahead of time. Compile envelopes labeled for each individual vendor and allot a tipping amount before the wedding day begins. Put these envelopes in the care of either your event planner or the best man and they can distribute the envelopes to the proper vendor. This leaves the tipping taken care of and out of the minds of the couple!

Remember: a grateful spirit and a genuine thank you note go a long way, too!

WHOPAYSF O RWHAT?

Planning a wedding can be both stressful and expensive, but it doesn’t have to be! Here is a list of who traditionally pays for what in a wedding. This is a great place to start when opening the budget for conversation!

“Don’t let the stress of planning take away from your excitement or create tension about the expenses. Keep dialogue open between all parties involved in the process to avoid confusion and unnecessary ‘budget fights.’ Finally, and most importantly, remember the big picture - you are getting married! Congratulations and happy planning!” -Ashley Viet, Signature Event Consulting

BEAUTY, HEALTH, & RECREATION

Just how important is your wedding hairstyle? Your wedding hairdo can make or break a stunning bridal look, and it is important to have the right advice when choosing a bridal hairstyle. Here are 5 tips for selecting your wedding look with advice from the stylists at The Hair Clinic!1. CHOOSE YOUR DRESS FIRST:Your dress and its neckline are the deciding factor for everything else around it: the hair, the accessories, the flowers, everything. Don’t try to determine your wedding hairstyle based on your favorite magazine updo or something you found on Pinterest. First find a dress that makes you feel like a princess; then let your stylist tailor a style to compliment the dress. 2. ACCESSORIZE:Your hair accessories can dramatically change your hairstyle. Factor in your headpiece or other accessories before deciding your bridal hairstyle. Adding any headpiece to a hairstyle can dramatically change what your stylist envisions when doing your hair. Coordinating your hairstyle and accessories will transform your wedding look from ordinary to extraordinary. 3. BE REALISTIC:You may have a vision of your wedding day hair that would require your stylist to be Superwoman. Accept that there may be limitations with the texture or length of your hair that limits your hairstyle options. Similarly, if you are getting married in an outdoor location, it

may not be ideal to wear your hair down or expect it to hold curl depending on the day’s forecast. Bring a few styles you like to your next hair appointment and get your stylist’s advice on the best hairstyle for your day.4. BOOK A TRIAL:It’s a good idea to choose a stylist who is a wedding specialist, but they still can’t read your mind and know which bridal hairstyles you will like. One of the most difficult challenges for a stylist can be when you don’t love your look but don’t have the confidence to tell the stylist. You will not hurt their feelings, in fact most stylists love blunt honesty. That is how they can make sure their guests are happy and confident with their look. By the end of your trial, your stylist should understand the look you want for your wedding day.5. BE YOU:Don’t force an over-the-top style that no one has seen before just because you saw it in a magazine or on Pinterest. Your guests came to celebrate YOU. When your hair is styled in a way that enhances your natural beauty, you will feel more confident and enjoy looking back on your day.

FORMAL WEAR

From the very beginning of your engagement, you are personalizing your wedding from the overall theme to the arrangement of the bouquets. One of the most exhilarating parts of personalizing your wedding is finding the perfect gown. The search for the perfect gown is exciting, but it can also be frustrating if you cannot find what you are envisioning. Choosing to customize your wedding gown allows you to co-create the gown of your dreams from start to finish.

The custom design process is more involved than traditional shopping because you are ensuring a perfect fitting and completely original gown. In the beginning of the custom design process, we will have a consultation to discuss your dream dress. In the consultation, we will go over topics such as your desired silhouette, possible fabrics, colors, price point, and time frame. I will create a quick sketch of the gown from the details we have discussed, and from there I will start developing a sample.

The sample gown is made of a simple cotton fabric that is used to confirm the fit and style of the gown before moving forward with the final fabrics. At this stage possible changes can be made to your final gown to guarantee it will be everything you want and have been envisioning.

A final fitting will take place one to two weeks before your wedding to see if any final alterations need to be done. After the final touches have been made, you will be ready to walk down the aisle in your one-of-a-kind wedding gown.

KAILEE + TREVOR

“My favorite moments of my wedding day were getting ready with my bridesmaids and my mom and mother-in-law. Doing our makeup together, getting in our dresses, and enjoying each other’s company. My second favorite moment was the “first look.” When Trevor saw me in my dress, he said I looked 1,000 times better than he could ever had imagined. To any future brides, my advice is to stay organized. Being organized really helps when you get to the last few days before your wedding, which are the busiest! Keep files, keep notes, make budget spread sheets, make an itinerary of your expectations for the day so that your bridal party knows when pictures are and where, etc... My last piece of advice, DO NOT stress over the little things—no one cares or will even notice if the ribbons around the gift favors are the EXACT color of the bridesmaid dresses… I promise!” -Kailee Wolterstorff, Terrace View Bride

GOOD EATS & BEVERAGES

When friends and family look back on a wedding day, certain things come back to their minds. Maybe there was an embarrassing speech by the Bride’s uncle, or a famous choreographed first dance. If executed well, the food is surely not to be forgotten. Make sure your menu is something your guests will rave about for years to come with a few of these helpful hints:Don’t Leave Your Guests Hungry - Each of your guests will be spending about half of their day with you, if not more. Never leave guests without food for more than three hours (maximum). For the best response feed them as soon as you arrive at the reception. This is also the key to avoid dreaded drunkenness amongst your wedding guests.Vary courses - For example, if you are having seafood as a starter, avoid it as a main course. Not only will this satisfy the pickiest of eaters, but it can distinguish your appetizers from your meal, and so on.Keep your wedding day schedule in mind - If you and your wedding guests are planning on dancing into the early hours at your wedding reception, then it is always a good idea to bring out extra food towards the end of the evening. Or if you are having an evening ceremony, keep in mind that eating a three course meal late at night might not be suitable.Aim for continuity - Try to reflect the mood of your day in your choice of food to give a sense of continuity. If you are planning a relaxed barn wedding, then a build-a-burger bar followed by an assortment of delicious pies would go over wonderfully. Sushi might not tie in so nicely.

Consider the season - Your guests’ appetites may be drastically different from the warm summer months to the bitter cold winter months. For example, in colder months, salads and fish dishes may not be what your guests crave, whilst a roast dinner or casserole in sunny weather won’t go down well either. In addition, guests are more likely to eat larger amounts in colder weather than they would in warmer months.Think about quantity - An intimate wedding may allow you to opt for dishes which are more expensive, such as individual fillet steaks. On the other hand, a large wedding might require food that is easily prepared on a large scale, such as chilli or pasta dishes. This is where your budget becomes a real factor. Consider not only what you can afford but what is practical, then allow you caterer to customize a menu to not only your tastes but your budget as well.

Reflect yourselves in the food - Your wedding day should be all about the happy couple – from the choice of bridesmaids’ dresses to the location, everything should make your wedding guests think of you. This is no different for your menu choice. Granted, not everyone shares the same taste, but try to incorporate your favorite flavors or foods into your day.A great menu will leave your guests satisfied and reminiscing your wedding day for years to come.

w THE TERRACE VIEW BAR Beyond the common Cash Bar, where guests pay for their own drinks, the Terrace View offers a variety of

Bar Service options sure to fit any host’s preference: u Open Bar: all drinks are complimentary by the host for the entire evening u Timed Open Bar: drinks are complimentary for a specific time period, such as during the social hour and dinner hour, with

bar switching to cash bar after specified time period u Dollar Amount Open Bar: drinks up to a pre-determined total dollar amount are complimentary, with the bar switching to

cash bar after amount reached u Drink Tickets: host supplies and distributes drink tickets for guests to redeem at bar u Hosted Kegs: a Small Keg (approximately 75 servings) or Large Keg (approximately 150 servings) is offered at the bar u Hosted Beer and Wine: all beer and wine are complimentary by the host u Hosted Soda Bottles: all soda bottles are complimentary by the host u Cocktailed Wine Service: wine or champagne of your choice is cocktailed to guests during the social hour and dinner u Dry House: If you, your families, and most of your guests don’t drink alcohol, skip it. Offer a lemonade bar, coffee bar, or hot

chocolate bar and complement it with our Hosted Soda Bottles and some sparkling cider.

w MAY HOSTS OR GUESTS BRING IN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES? All alcohol must be purchased through the Event Center. Pre-arranged wine or champagne may be

supplied by the host for a corkage fee charged per bottle opened. The Event Center will serve all alcoholic beverages.

w ARE THERE BAR FEES OR A MINIMUM BALANCE THAT MUST BE MET? The Bar Minimum for bar service is $500 in sales for all Basic Package events unless prior arrangements have been made, and there is no minimum for all All-Inclusive events. In addition an 18% bar fee is required for any hosted beverages served by the Terrace View bartenders.

Our clients often ask what an average host’s bill is for an open bar. There really is no “average” because all families and guests are different, but there are a few tricks to help you know what to plan for. It seems like you can expect your guests to utilize the bar service more if your guests are from out of town and staying overnight at the neighboring Holiday Inn Express & Suites. Another trick may be to look at the demographics of your attending guests and identify their drinking preferences. Also, the number of guests and the length and style of the reception should be factored in too. But, even after this, it’s still possible to have no idea what dollar amount to plan for. My suggestion is to set a starting point using a timed open bar or dollar amount open bar, and if you want to expand, then you just let our bartenders know. Drink tickets are also a great option because you control how many tickets are distributed.

Regardless of the style of Bar Service you choose to offer your guests at your event, it’s always a wonderful gesture to thank your guests for supporting you on your big day!

SWEET TREATS

Maybe you’re not a fan of cake. Or maybe you love cake so much that you can’t choose just one type. Whatever the reason, couples today are weighing the options when it comes to choosing reception desserts. With so many options, who could choose?

Here are a few of our favorite options:

Nothing can top the traditional tiered cake. From its grand elegance to the decorative elements, it will certainly add a sense of beauty to your reception. Although it may be considered “old-fashioned,” you should definitely not count it out when deciding your dessert options!

Cupcakes are a fun alternative to wedding cake. You can mix and match a wide variety of flavors so that there’s something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters.

Can’t choose just one dessert? Then dessert shots or mini desserts are just the treat for you! Guests can help themselves to a variety of delectable dessert options. These sweet treats are as beautiful as they are delicious! Any dessert you’d like can be turned into a dessert shot.

SWEET TREATS | PAGE 51

PAGE 52 | SWEET TREATS

Still undecided? Try a grand display of full fledged desserts. From famous home recipies to tantelizing gourmet treats, your guests can choose a dessert--or maybe two--to try!

A new twist on a classic dessert! Cheesecake will never disappoint. Set up an eye catching display and invite your guests to travel through the cheesecake bar, seleting their favorite flavors, sauces, and mouth-watering toppings.

Who can turn down ice cream? From a make-your-own-sundae bar to assorted malts and shakes, guests will be delighted to try the many flavors and toppings. Splurge on gourmet ice cream for a truly memorable dessert.

Feeling a little salty and sweet? How about a popcorn bar! From the moment guests arrive till the last dance, guests will have something tasty to keep them full all night.

Hot summer nights deserve the comforts of a make-your-own S’mores bar. Guests will enjoy making their own treat and trying new ideas, like white chocolate!

For the young at heart, a candy bar is not to be overlooked. Take it to the next level by choosing candies in your wedding colors! This is not only fun, but can also be a take-home favor for your guests.

Love is sweet, take a treat!

MUSIC & DANCING

You have the perfect decorations, food, and everything else you could possibly imagine for your wedding--this includes an excellent song for your first dance! Sounds easy enough, right? We hope so, but just in case you and your fiancé have a slightly different taste in music, here are some helpful tips for picking out a special song for your first dance!

Do you have a song for the two of you? If so, use it! A song with special meaning to you both is a great way to enjoy the moment. This song could be a song that reminds you of when you started dating, or that was playing in the background while you shared your first kiss. Whatever the significance, it will be sure to bring back happy memories!

Another way to choose your first dance song would be to select a song with lyrics that reflect your relationship! Did it take him FOREVER to pop the question? This might be a good time to play “At last My love has come along, My lonely days are over, And life is like a song.” (At Last by Etta James)

Another option to consider is choosing a song that you have learned a special dance for. If you love to show off your moves in a wild swing dance, crank up the volume to a song like I’m alive (Life Sounds Like) by Michael Franti & Spearhead.

No matter what song you choose, it’s sure to be a memory that will last a lifetime.

Need help picking? Here are some top first dance songs:

Let’s be honest. Every bride has at least one Pinterest board filled with flowers, centerpieces, and decorations fit for a royal wedding. But wait, what’s that? A budget? Oh yes, I almost forgot! Unfortunately, most brides must come to terms with the possibility that a 7-foot-tall cascading floral centerpiece made of 100 long-stemmed roses might send her wallet into shock! Here are a few tips to make your decor look “Pinterest-worthy” without needing a queen-sized wallet to pay for the décor of your dreams:

BE FLEXIBLEDon’t set your mind on one particular type of flower. Having a “name-brand” attitude can become pricey if this flower is in demand, out of season, or any number of other variables. Trust your florist. She might even be able to suggest a variation of the bloom you weren’t aware of that you like better.

GO SEASONALChoosing flowers in season are going to be cheaper, and more environmentally friendly. Another option is to go with blooms which are in season all year round.

USE JUST A FEWIf you can’t imagine not having your favorite flower in your arrangements, consider using only a few stems and accenting with other blooms. A bouquet made only of roses could be pricey for a bride on a budget,

but the bouquet could be accented with Baby’s Breath to give the same full look while using less premium flowers.

SELECT FULL BLOOMSUse large blooms such as hydrangeas or peonies in your centerpieces. Not only are they beautiful, but they will typically take less stems per centerpiece than a tulip or other small bloomed flower would.

USE VARIATIONRather than selecting a large centerpiece for every guest table, bring in variation with a few smaller, more affordable centerpieces throughout.

ADD OTHER DECORIf you are looking for elegance and drama, don’t make the flowers do all the work. An overflowing centerpiece can add up quickly. By bringing in items such as candles, tall vases, and hanging crystals, your flowers can be the detail that pulls everything together.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY

So your wedding day has come and gone and you have the most vivid memories of how perfect, wonderful, and fun your wedding was. Eventually you’ll forget some of your favorite moments like how cute your nephew looked when he had cake all over his face, or how perfect your hair looked. That is, unless you have photographs and videos of it! Now, you might be saying to yourself “I will have plenty of pictures and videos. My guests will take candid pictures with the disposable cameras we have on the guests’ tables and I’ll have my cousin take the formal pictures, plus there are all the pictures my family and friends will share on Instagram. Also, my Aunt’s new digital camera takes videos!” To preserve these once in a lifetime moments, you could rely on your family and friends, or you could treat these wedding pictures as an investment to guarantee you can remember all the details of the most important day of your life.“It is important to invest in photography because a photograph is a lot more than just a picture. A photograph is something that is created. I often do not describe myself as someone that TAKES pictures

but someone that MAKES pictures.,” says Erica Huisman, owner of e. Imagery & Design. To get started with choosing a photographer, shop around at bridal fairs and look up local photographers online. There are three things that you should keep in mind while shopping for a photographer: PREVIOUS WORK, and price.

PREVIOUS WORK shows you the quality level you can expect. “A lot of

thought goes into each composition--the style, the surroundings, how

each person interacts with the other. A professional and creative photographer brings each of these elements into your photographs in a way that someone just taking pictures cannot.” (Erica Huisman)

Take time to meet them at a bridal fair, schedule

a consultation, or look at their style on Facebook or their blog. It is very

important that the photographer makes you feel comfortable and works well with you!

price: Many people say that their final decision comes down to price. Being price conscious to stay within your budget is commendable, but also keep in mind that if you expect amazing quality photography you need to be willing to pay quality

Personality,

prices. Remember, you are capturing memories you can’t get back. If you don’t get it right, there are no do overs.

In addition to photography services, you might also choose to have a videographer present for your wedding day. “Most people don’t blink at paying a thousand dollars or more on a photographer because they know that professional results are dramatically better than amateur ones. It’s absolutely the same with videography,” says Jesse Brauning, owner of Paragon Videography.

Professional videographers invest in years of training, high quality equipment, and many other resources to ensure a final video that is high quality, creative, and most importantly a replay of some of your most precious moments. They also provide a way for you to share the actual wedding experience that goes beyond still pictures. “In a world of YouTube and Facebook, a client gets just as much exposure for their wedding video as they do for their photos. Placing an artistic short film of your wedding day on your Facebook will give your friends and family immediate access to a cinematic wedding day experience.” (Jesse Brauning)

The ultimate decision for photography and videography is in your hands, but remember to consider previous work, personality, and price as you shop around. Whether you choose professional services or choose to be a do-it-yourself bride, work these into your budget accordingly for an end result that will keep you happy for years to come.

The wedding day went by so quickly, too quickly! I woke up that morning and immediately went to go get my hair done and did not stop moving. One of my favorite moments was when my mother-in-law was doing my hair. It was a fun and special moment that not all

brides get to have with their soon-to-be mother-in-law. I also really liked the time that I got to spend getting ready and relaxing with my bridesmaids before the wedding and pictures.

“My advice to future brides: don't rent tuxes, buy suits. They are so much cheaper, the groomsmen get to actually keep

them, and they fit100x better. Also don't sweat the little stuff that happens the day of the wedding. To ease your mind, double check with all the vendors and make sure

everything is ready and good to go.” -Niki

HAPPILYEVER AFTER

CHANGING YOUR NAMEIf you decide to take your new husband’s name, you must make it official. Contrary to popular belief, obtaining a marriage license that uses your new last name does not mean you’ve changed it. Start with your Social Security Card and Driver’s License so that the rest are easy to change. Here’s a list to get you started making your name change official.

GET PROOF: Get your Certified Marriage License. Call the office where your license was filed to get copies if they are not automatically mailed.

SOCIAL SECURITY CARD: Contact the Social Security Administration by phone or you can fill out an application online.

DRIVER’S LICENSE: Visit the Department of Motor Vehicles; you will need your new Social Security Card or your Certified Marriage License.

FILL IN THE BLANKS:EmployersAuto registrationCredit cardsBank accountsUtilitiesMedical organizationsLegal documents (will, power of attorney, etc…)Billed services (phone, insurance, etc…)Post officeSchools and alumni associationsVoter registrationPassportMortgage or lease... and the list goes on. Many of these organizations can change your name over the phone. Others may want to see a copy of your Marriage Certificate and your Driver’s License before they will change your name on the account.
