We’re so excited to have this publication in your hands in the throes of winter when we start dreaming of spring and summer. (This year, you can get registered for camp beginning Jan. 22.)

In Girl Scouts those dreams are of fun and adventure with BFFs in your

troop, of trying different things and making new friends at summer camp or traveling to far off places. It’s all inside this guide—your path to fun and adventure.

We hope your Girl Scout year got off to a great start and that you are in the midst of a super successful Cookie season. Girls learn valuable business skills from the cookie sale and they also give back to their communities. And, they can pay their own way for the exciting Girl Scout events, trips and camps in this guide through cookies. How empowering is that?

So whether you are a troop leader helping your girls plan a fun, end-of-school year activity, or engaging your girls to plan a 3-day troop camping experience, use this guide to get started and your adventure will take off. Or if you’re a Girl Scout or her parent, eagerly anticipating the simpler days of summer; use this guide to pick your path to adventure at our beautiful resident camp properties, at day camps in locations across the state, on travel experiences or at summer events.

I hope you’re as excited as I am about more adventure and challenge explorations at Magic Sky Ranch and a new focus on simple, sustainable living at Tomahawk Ranch. Homesteading at Tomahawk Ranch is a really cool way for girls to be on the forefront of simple living—by taking care of the animals on the farm, learning about the food cycle and really exploring what recycling, composting and sustainability mean. It’s a perfect fit for Girl Scouts as this 101-year-old organization was into “green” long before being green was cool.

We’ve added some farm programming at Magic Sky Ranch, as well as the chance for girls to “survive in the wild” and sleep out under the stars or in a fort they construct themselves. Girls will connect with nature while participating in more hiking and backpacking adventures than ever before.

If being out on the water is your thing, we’ve got that too. We have several day camps where girls will learn to pilot all kinds of water vessels. And we’re offering a chance for older girls and adults to earn canoeing certifications.

I’m thrilled to see the new kinds of day camp programming being offered by our dedicated volunteers. A “novel” camp where girls will spend the week with their favorite literary characters features activities based on their favorite books. What a great way to make books come alive! Favorite day camps are back too, from science to archery to badge-earning and much more.

Anything’s possible! Let’s make this the best summer ever! (But don’t forget spring—flip this guide over for events, activities and programs coming up March–July).

How to use this GuideThe GSCO Summer Guide has information on resident camp, family camp, troop camp, day camp, boating certification opportunities and travel. Flip the Guide over for a spring/ summer programs and activities section that contains events and activities listed by month from March through July.

RegistrationWe are excited to introduce a more streamlined registration system this year with CampInTouch, where you will register, access health forms, make payments and submit other forms all at one place! However, because we are registering girls for a variety of opportunities, one registration system does not fit all. Please take note of all registration instructions in each section. If in doubt, use the Activity Finder on the GSCO website to be directed to the correct registration system.

Resident camp and council-supported day camps register through CampInTouch. You’ll find a link on the Girl Scouts of Colorado website when registration opens Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. Troop and family camps will have registration instructions detailed in each listing. Volunteer-run camps manage their own registration; instructions are provided within each listing.

Fall Sale 2014 The Fall Sale (9/20 – 10/12/2014) is a wonderful way for girls and troops to build funds for their

troop before the Cookie Sale gets started. Fall Sale and the Cookie Program develop five essential life skills:goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

Registration instructionsMost camps will register in CampInTouch (one click off the GSCO website). Follow the instructions for volunteer-run camps and troop camps. All campers must be Girl Scouts of Colorado members at the time of registration. Please complete your membership registration at girlscoutsofcolorado.org/parents/register prior to starting your summer camp registration.

CampInTouch allows you to:• Register your daughter(s) for camp sessions.• Manage your payments and view your payment history.

DepositsAll campers must pay a 10 percent deposit at the time of registration. If you register within 30 days of the start of the camp session, payment is due in full.

Camp grantsCamp grant applicants should first register with a 10% deposit for all desired camps. Grants are given for up to 80% of fees, depending on the established need of the applicant. The grant application is available at the end of the camp registration process. All campers must be Girl Scouts of Colorado members ($15 annual membership fee). Membership grants are also available.

DiscountsDiscounts cannot be combined. Each camper may apply only one discout to her registration. Discounts will be applied to fees for all programs the camper is registering for at the time of deposit.

How to use Cookie CreditsYour Girl Scout has a variety of camps and programs to choose from when using Cookie Credits! Register your daughter for her desired sessions anytime between Jan. 22 and May 1, and you pay a 10% deposit. Cookie Cards will be sent out by mid-April. Pay your camp fees balance with your Cookie Credit card by April 30 to lock in Early Bird pricing. If your daughter earns her full fees with Cookie Credits you can submit a Redeem Cookie Credit form for your original 10% deposit.

Girls with special needsWe welcome girls with differing abilities and special needs and ask that parent(s)/guardian(s) communicate with us in advance so we can make sure the opportunity sets each girl up for success. Call customer support for a referral to the appropriate camp director at 877-404-5708 to discuss your daughter’s needs. If your daughter is on any new medication, please contact us to make sure she is stable and used to the effects of the medication before sending her into an unfamiliar environment.

Resident camp open housesEach spring, we open our resident camps to share these amazing properties with families and campers. Come check out the place where summer adventure begins. We hope to see you there.

Resident camp volunteersThere are a limited number of volunteer positions for adults at Resident Camps. Adult volunteers are set up in a cabin and work like a staff member. Adult volunteers are placed in different units than their daughters. They receive a 50 percent discount on camp fees for their daughter at camp that week. Adult Volunteers at resident camps must complete the following steps:

• Contact the resident camp director of your desired camp prior to Jan. 22 ([email protected] for Magic Sky Ranch and [email protected] for Tomahawk Ranch).

• Interview and submit references to the resident camp director.• You’ll be appointed by the camp director prior to registration, and one space will be held for your camper in her

desired session. • Complete the online volunteer application (if you are not already an approved volunteer) and staff application and ad-

ditional staff background checks.

Welcome to Magic Sky RanchMagic Sky Ranch is located about 45 minutes from Fort Collins and 45 minutes from Wyoming in beautiful Red Feather Lakes. Magic Sky Ranch offers many activities, including, but not limited to: archery, crafts, nature activities, astronomy,

climb wall, low ropes course, high ropes course (Junior ages+), drama, hikes, orienteering and camp songs. Many activities are weather dependent.

When this happens, staff work tirelessly to provide alternative actvities/times for activities for campers.

Have you ever wished upon a star? Or wanted to know the name of a star or planet? Learn about all things nocturnal—you’ll even stay up later and sleep in on most days. Includes an overnight outdoors or in our barn. Daylight camp activities will also be offered.

Do you have what it takes to survive in the wild? Test your survival skills while you hike, sleep under the stars in a fort you build, learn tracking skills (including archery on our range and field course) and tie knots (climb wall and ropes course).

Resident Camp

Welcome to Tomahawk RanchTomahawk Ranch is our beautiful farm property located in Bailey. Tomahawk Ranch is now offering a homesteading experience where girls will gain a better understanding of food cycles,

gardening skills and have the chance to work on our small animal farm. Discover self-sufficient living through raising animals and food, re-using, repairing and recycling household

objects, and reducing our need for natural resources.

Although horses are no longer on-site at Tomahawk, many programs offer horseback riding as part of their activities

at local stables.

Tomahawk Ranch offers many activities, including, but not limited to: archery, crafts, greenhouse and

gardening, small animal farm, drama, hikes, orienteering and camp songs. Many activities are weather dependent. When

this happens, staff work tirelessly to provide alternative activities/times for activities for campers.

Explore Tomahawk’s barnyard and greenhouse. Learn all about the small animal farm, animal care, homesteading and cooking. Feed, groom, plant and harvest. You’ll even get to bathe the pigs in buttermilk! (Includes a one-hour off-site horseback trail ride).

Become a skilled archer. Practice at our range and field archery course. Experience a night in our tepees! Learn fun new survial techniques. There will be time for other camp activities.

The beauty of colorful Colorado awaits. Take pictures of the Tomahawk natural environment and the wonders in our greenhouse. Have the chance to plant your own beauty to take home as well as one to leave at Tomahawk. Cameras provided at Tomahawk Ranch if needed.

Cooking with cookies has never been so fabulous! Create indoor and outdoor cooking recipes with Girl Scout cookies. Cook outdoors with cookies. Learn secrets of a real chef and ALWAYS have dessert first!

While the rest of camp drifts off to dreamland, the girls of Midnight Moons will hit the trail to hike, stargaze and learn about all things nocturnal. Stay up with the moon and sleep in late. There will be time for other camp activities during the day.

A signature Tomahawk Ranch camp program. Campers will visit the barnyard, cook outdoor meals, create camp crafts, dabble in sports, plant in the greenhouse, make and eat homemade ice cream, participate in all-camp programs, hike and plan their own camp adventures.

Outpost: C(6-day) $500/$550 – 6/22-27 (TR11)Registration deadline: 5/23/2104Entering grades: 6-8

Develop your camping skills such as outdoor cooking, orienteering, shelter building and hiking. Campers will spend four nights in a primitve camp site setting up their own shelters, cooking their own meals and taking short day hikes. Girls help choose other camp activities too. Campers should be comfortable in a rustic survival setting.

Troop Camp

Troop camp is great way to experience Girl Scout camps and bond with the girls in your troop. During Troop Camp, ratios must be maintained by each troop according to Safety Checkpoints. Troop leaders and other adult volunteers supervise girls while camp staff and volunteers lead camp activities during the day and evening. Boating Certification Programs

Register for these amazing boating events through the GSCO website Activity Finder. Program Aides are welcome to help at these trainings, contact Judy Moisey-Asay for any questions regarding volunteer opportunities. Adults and older Girl Scouts are welcome to attend these events.

Level 1 Canoe training OR Fundamentals of Canoeing (two trainings offered concurrently): C S A adult$50 – Soda Lake, Bear Creek Park, Lakewood4/20-5/18; Registration deadline: 4/4/2014Entering grades: 6-12

This course is for individual girls and adults who wish to become certified in Small Craft Safety – Canoeing and Basic Water Rescue. Participants will receive certifications in both subjects depending upon successful completion of course requirements. Two courses run concurrently. Participants must be 90 pounds or more. Trips and Travel

There are many opportunities to travel with Girl Scouts. Learning to plan trips and travel as a group is a foundation of Girl Scouting. Travel is about fun, exploration and progressive experiences in appreciating the outdoors, new places and other cultures. As girls grow older and become more seasoned travelers, the scope of their travel broadens to include trips across the country or abroad on girl-planned trips with sister Girl Scouts, or as an individual in a council- or Girl Scouts of the USA-sponsored destination. Buffalo National River Canoe Trip: C S A(5-day) $850 – Buffalo River, Arkansas5/31-6/8; Registration deadline: 4/15/2014 (TT01)Entering grades: 6-12

2015 Belize Trip: C S A(7-day) $2,635/girl; $2,940/adult7/8-14/2015Entering grades: 6-12

Come explore! In Belize, explore two different ecosystems—jungle and coastline. Hike through lush forest, ride a riverboat, snorkel in the Caribbean. Also learn about the fascinating history and culture of the indigenous people. Visits to the archaeological sites of Xunantunich and Lamanai shed light on the Mayan culture.
