An * asterisk is used to mark the beginning of a portion of the instructions to be worked more than

once; thus, “rep from *twice more” means after working the instruction once, repeat 2 more times for

a total or three repeats.

The () Parentheses are used to enclose instructions which should be worked the exact number of times

specified immediately following the () such as “(2 sc in next dc, sc in next dc) twice”. They are also used

to set off a group of stitches that are to be worked all into the same space or stitch, such as “(2dc, ch1,

2dc) in corner sp.”

[] the square parentheses is used when stitches are repeated in a cluster, in this case, multiple shells

made into one shell.

Join with a sl st unless otherwise specified.

SIZE- this hat is sized for and infant 12 – 18 months, depending on the size of the child. With the

attachment of the ribbons, the sizes are adjusted by adjusting the ribbons around the hat.

CHRISTMAS TREE DESIGN LITTLE GIRL’S HAT

The hat measures 20 inches around, and is adjustable by the ribbon that is tied around the crochet

flower.

MATERIALS

I have used no 10 cotton thread in ecru as the main color, red, and 2 shades of green. I also have used

baby sport weight red yarn to make the flower. The yarn gives more body to the flower.

200 yds of ecru

50 yds each of red and greens

18 inches of ribbons

Scrap of yellow cotton thread for the stamens in the flower

1.5 mm crochet hook was used, 7 sts = 1 inch

3 DC rows = l inch

Lets start with the flower

FLOWER

Figure 1: Close Up - Flower done in white yarn

The flower is worked in the crocodile stitch. I used white baby sports yarn for the flower instead of the

crochet thread. The yarn gives the flower more substance. The stamens, however, are done in yellow

thread.

Thread 18 inch green ribbon into trc rnd, sew flower into the desired space and tie a bow from the

ribbon around the flower. This adjusts the size of the hat.

Have fun creating your masterpiece.

Hope that this pattern is easy to follow. I’ve made every effort to try to explain it as simply as possible.
