It also offers a research library, a theater, and a large museum area. With several guided tours, AIMMs focus is to commemorate Americas rich naval and maritime heritage through the preservation and exhibition of historic naval vessels.The USS Razorback, a Balao-class submarine of the Sandlance variant, was built at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Her keel was laid on September 9, 1943, and she was launched on January 27, 1944. The Razorback conducted five combat patrols during World War II, sinking Japanese vessels, capturing Japanese POWs and rescuing American pilots who had been shot down.

ARKANSAS SPORTS HALL OF FAME • NORTH LITTLE ROCKArkSportsHallOfFame.orgThe Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame is a museum of recollections from over four decades of inductees honoring the athletic greats of Arkansas. Included in the museum is an 88-seat theatre where a video presentation of Arkansas sports memories is shown, and Arkansas sports legends provide lectures on special occasions. There is also an interactive broadcast booth where visitors may record their own play-by-play broadcast.

Constructed over a century ago, the building was designed as a replica of the US Capitol and features Arkansas granite, bronze doors and glass chandeliers crafted by Tiffanys of New York. Free audio tours are available. Also located on the State Capitol grounds are the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Little Rock Nine statues, Testaments.

Arkansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial – The Arkansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a lasting tribute to the more than 60,000 Arkansans who served, the over 600 sons of the State who gave their lives, and the 22 servicemen still listed as missing in action as a result of war.

Testament – Statue of the Little Rock Nine. Testaments is the Civil Rights Memorial sculpture of the Little Rock Nine, African American students who courageously integrated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. It is the only Civil Rights Memorial located on any State Capitol grounds in the South.

ARKANSAS STUDIES INSTITUTE • DOWNTOWNCALS.lib.ar.us/arstudies The Arkansas Studies Institute (ASI) is a joint project of the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Located in Little Rocks River Market District, the Institute is the states largest free-standing facility dedicated to the study of Arkansas.

The recent addition of an outdoor pergola offers shade and night-time lighting for events. The Bernice Garden is located on the corner of Daisy Bates and South Main in downtown Little Rock and is ever-blooming. The garden feature herbs, vegetables, annual and perennial flowers, and ornamental grasses. This garden and landscape attracts native insects that facilitate the ecology of the Little Rock area. The Bernice Garden is free to view and open 24 hours a day.

The location along the Arkansas River allows for many wildlife viewing opportunities. The grounds include beds of plants which grow natively across the state while the main building includes an exhibit hall, aquariums, a gift shop, a theater and special, educational programs.

The Clinton Presidential Center and Park include the Clinton Presidential Library, the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service and the Clinton Presidential Foundations Little Rock office. In addition to the archival collection and research facilities, the library features interactive exhibits, replicas of the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room and other educational opportunities.

Permanent exhibits utilizing photographs, videos and interactive stations include a 100-foot-long timeline presenting the day-to-day work of the President and alcoves highlighting domestic and foreign policy efforts and achievements. Traveling exhibits to the library have included: the Emancipation Proclamation, the White House in Miniature, Art of the Chopper, Peter Max Paints America and many others.

The Clinton Presidential Park BridgeThe Clinton Presidential Park Bridge, or Rock Island Bridge, is a pedestrian and cyclist bridge in downtown Little Rock near the Clinton Presidential Center. It connects Little Rock to North Little Rock by traversing the Arkansas River, and allows pedestrian access to attractions on both sides of the river including Heifer International, Verizon Arena, Dickey Stephen Park, the River Market and the Argenta Arts District. It’s one of Little Rock’s “Six Bridges.”

The bridge is also part of the Arkansas River Trail system and completes a 15 mile loop of continuous trail. Prior to the completion of the bridge, cyclists and walkers had to stop and board an elevator or stairs to cross the river at the Junction Bridge. The Clinton Presidential Park Bridge allows a non-stop trip around the River Trail loop. All River Trail bridges are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week unless other announced and are pet and cyclist friendly.

FOURCHE CREEK FourcheCreek.org The Fourche Creek Watershed is arguably the most important urban watershed in the state of Arkansas, draining and filtering runoff from Little Rock. The Fourche Creek watershed includes six third-order streams and nine primary tributaries. It stretches across the length of the city and includes several large, isolated, urban wetlands and empties into the Arkansas River, just south of downtown.

The Arsenal Building, a National Historic Landmark and one of Little Rocks oldest surviving structures, was built in 1840 to protect Arkansans from Indian attack. It witnessed pivotal exchanges between Federal and Confederate forces during the Civil War and later became the birthplace of Five Star Army General Douglas MacArthur.

Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial. The Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial, located in MacArthur Park, is dedicated to ensuring that future generations remember the Korean War Veterans, as well as the veterans proud and dedicated service, the legacy they continued

MOSAIC TEMPLARS OF AMERICA • DOWNTOWNMosaicTemplarsCenter.comEstablished in 1883 as a fraternal organization, the Mosaic Templars of America provided insurance and other services to black businesses during the era of segregation. By 1900, Mosaic Templars industries grew to include an insurance company, a building and loan association, a publishing company, a business college, a nursing school and a hospital.

The original headquarters building was destroyed in a fire in March 2005. Rebuilt to preserve the history, on September 20, 2008, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center and Museum opened to the public as a state-of-the-art facility with more than 8,000 square feet of interactive exhibit and education space.

MT. HOLLY CEMETERY • DOWNTOWNMount Holly Cemetery was established in 1843 and features Victorian-era statuary, ranging from the more common angels and cherubs to a unique pair of two young girls, memorializing two sisters who died in childhood and are buried there. Those buried in Mount Holly include at least 10 Arkansas governors, three US senators, five Confederate generals, 10 Little Rock majors, composers, newspaper editors, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Quatie Ross, wife of Cherokee Chief John Ross, who died while traveling on the Trail of Tears.

OAKLAND & FRATERNAL HISTORIC CEMETERY PARK • EAST LITTLE ROCKEstablished in 1862 to accommodate the Civil War dead, this 160-acre estate has been carved into seven distinct cemeteries: Oakland, National, an eleven-acre Confederate, a one-acre Confederate, Fraternal, Jewish Oakland, and Agudath Achim. Today, 108 acres of the original 160 remain as burial grounds. The cemeteries have seen more than 62,000 burials since the first in 1863. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, the grounds are open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.

OLD MILL • NORTH LITTLE ROCKNorthLR.org/attractions/old-millRemember the mill with its turning water wheel that appears during the opening credits of the 1936 legendary movie Gone With the Wind? Surprise! Its right here in central Arkansas. The Old Mill is a reproduction of an 1800s water-powered grist mill and was built in 1933 by Dionicio Rodriguez. This 3-acre site, officially known as the R.R. Pugh Memorial Park and Pughs Mill, is more commonly known as the Old Mill. The mill, with a water wheel constructed of concrete but treated to look like wood, is surrounded by a road resembling an old wagon road and a rustic footbridge made of black locust tree limbs.

OLD STATE HOUSE MUSEUM • DOWNTOWN/RIVER MARKETOldStatehouse.comThe historic Old State House opened as Arkansass first state capitol building in 1836 and continued serving in that position until 1911. This Greek Revival-style structure is nationally recognized as the backdrop for President Bill Clintons 1992 and 1996 election night celebrations. Today, the building houses a museum of Arkansas history. Permanent exhibits include: Pillars of Power, exploring the history of the Old State House; Arkansass First Families, featuring 30 Arkansas First Ladies gowns; Grandmothers Cottage, a hands-on childrens exhibit; the Arkansas Wilderness gallery; and the 1836 and 1885 House of Representatives chambers.

Civil War Marker. Located in Riverfront Park, this is the site where the main body of Steeles army entered Little Rock on September 11, 1863.

Junction Bridge. As an integral part of the Six Bridge skyline and riverfront development in both Little Rock and North Little Rock, the Junction Railroad Bridge for pedestrian and bicycle use, links both sides of the Arkansas River Trail. Access to the bridge is provided via a walkway (handicap

accessible) directly behind the River Market pavilion on the Little Rock side and from Washington Street near Verizon Arena on the North Little Rock side.

La Petite Roche Plaza. Benard de la Harpe, who is believed to have traveled about 50 miles above the present sites of Little Rock and North Little Rock, described the area when writing about his journey. Denoted a landmark on the north bank of the Arkansas River, which he referred to as the French Rock (now known as big rock). The first outcropping of rock along the riverbanks above its mouth on the south bank came to be known as the Little Rock. Located in Riverfront Park, relive history and rediscover La Petite Roche.

Peabody Park: An Adventure in Play. Located west of the Junction Bridge and north of the Wellness Walkway in Riverfront Park, Peabody Park is a unique play environment. Designed with help from children, it encourages imagination, exploration and discovery. Some of its many wondrous features include: several outdoor and underground tunnels; large, native stones for climbing; a spray pad; a large slide and the Ozark Pavilion.

Sculptures in Riverfront Park: More than 65 sculptures valued at more than $2 million can be found at various locations in Riverfront Park, leading to the Vogel Schwartz Foundation , which is home to more than 30 works of art acquired annually from proceeds of the Sculpture at the River Market show held each October.
