The Oxford Dictionary definesthe verb experience as to feel(an emotion), as inan opportunityto experience the excitementof New York. It is my pleasureto welcome you to the 12thAnnual Open House New YorkWeekend, two days of unparalleledopportunities to experience the city.

At a time when so much of our attentionis distracted by pixels and screens, OHNYWeekend is a reminder of the visceral powerof experience and of how the experience ofa great building can transform us. There isno substitute for the feeling you get whenyou walk into the TWA Terminal for the firsttime and realize that all the photographsyou have ever seen do not even come closeto capturing its dynamism. Or the sense ofawe that overcomes you standing under thedome of Weylin B. Seymours in the formerWilliamsburgh Savings Bank. Not all of us are

moved by the same thingsfor some it mightbe a historic house, for others a cutting edgeoffice buildingbut all of us have had theexperience of a building or place that leavesus inspired or thrilled or humbled.

With more than three hundred sites andtours across the five boroughs, OHNYWeekend offers plenty of chances toexperience New York. From historic tocontemporary, residential to industrial, some of the citys most important buildingsare open for you to visit. We hope yourexperiences during OHNY Weekend

leave you inspired and thrilled, and moreimportantly, that they help you betterappreciate how important architecture andurban design are to making this the mostremarkable city in the world.
