2014 - PRESENT RAINBOW JUNCTION INTERMODALClient: City of Tshwane Implementation agent: AMCE

The Rainbow Junction Intermodal station, is designed to integrate the existing Wonderboom station with the additional transportation modes being: Minibus taxi’s, Tshwane Rapid Transit system and regional and local buses. Using a central elevated pedestrian bridge, the station links with the various transport systems and the future developments planned for the area. The station is designed to accommodate a wide range of users, transport modes and economic models. Once completed it will be the largest intermodal interchange within Tshwane.

2015 - PRESENT TRT PROTOTYPICAL STATIONClient: City of Tshwane Implementation agent: AMCE

The Prototypical TRT station was designed as a cost effective robust solution which can be implemented in a short time frame. Designed as a kit of parts the bulk of the station is made off-site and assembled using purpose made and readily available industrial components.

2009 - 2015 MEMORY BOX STATIONClient: City of Tswane Implementation agent: SANRAL Ltd

The Memory Box station forms part of the “A Re Yeng” Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system implemented in Tshwane as a process of upgrading the public transport system within the Metropole. The Memory box stations are specifically chosen to be located in sensitive historical precincts where they are required to be ‘non buildings’ that blend into their sensitive historical contexts. The lower scaled stations consisting primarily of floor to ceiling glass panels therefore intentionally reflecting their surroundings.

2002 BOABAB TOLL PLAZAClient: SANRAL Ltd Implementation agent: Tolplan

The tollgate, located in Musina in Limpopo, drew its metaphor from the Boabab trees in the area. With the toll booths as the trunk, steel canopy as foliage and (impact continuators) as roots. This building’s components are an architecturally sculptural rendition of this magical African tree.

2011 JOHANNESBURG NEW MODEL SUPER STOPClient: Johannesburg Development Agency

Developed as a prototypical minibus taxi station in Johannesburg, this modular design integrates various elements to ensure the sustainability and resilience of the station as urban node. The clock tower and water tower were used as important landmark as well as additional orientation devices within the urban context.

2003 DIAMOND HILL TOLL AND RAMP PLAZA Implementation agent: SANRAL Ltd

The design for this toll gate, located in Cullinan / Bronkhorstspruit on the N4, was inspired by the architectural vernacular of the many sheds in the surrounding farms. Apart from being used for water storage, the traditionally inspired corrugated steel water tanks are used as landmarks, sign posts and storage units, thereby enhancing the natural beauty of a historically recognisable practical element. The concept is one of gateway and threshold to the city (in association with KTA).

2011 MUSINA BRIDGEClient: SANRAL Bridge and structural engineers: KBK Engineers

The signature bridges were commissioned by SANRAL to celebrate the entrance into and out of the Republic of South Africa on the N1 towards Zimbabwe. The bridges had to act as landmarks, conveying a sense of National Pride as well as providing the motorist with milestones, making their journey more memorable.

2010 NELMAPIUS BRIDGEClient: SANRAL Ltd Bridge and structural engineers: BKS Engineers

A signature bridge commissioned by SANRAL Ltd, this bridge had to act as a gateway to the new Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project. The notion of random and the art of origami were combined to reflect as a metaphor, the many facets of the province of Gauteng and the country as a whole.
