CAMP DIRECTORS

Paula DeTellis – Camp Director

Hello, parents! I am looking forward to another fun summer. Camp

Woodhaven has been part of my life for almost 23 years now. Soon

after George and I were married, the baton was passed to us. We

have seen the camp grow and blossom from just a dream. My role

has been the “behind the scenes” person for many years. I enjoy plan-

ning program that your children will find fun, but you will recognize as

educational.

Here’s a little about my life. George and I live and work in Florida dur-

ing the school year. We have a son who is 22 and a daughter who is

19. I love to cook food from many countries. I enjoy walking, hiking,

and biking for outdoor activities.

I appreciate the business side of camp as my degree is in finance, but I

also love the creative side of camp. I learned from a young age to use

my imagination to create interesting activities. My life growing up on a

dairy farm also gave me a love for God’s creatures and for plants and

trees as we grew almost all our own food. I hope to share this love for

the outdoors with your children.

George DeTellis Jr. – Executive Director

Hi! My name is George DeTellis and I am the Executive Director of

Camp Woodhaven. My grandfather, Charlie DiPietro, founded Camp

Woodhaven sixty years ago. Today my grandfather is 95 and still

drives out on a sunny day to check up on me. As a boy, I spent my

summers here at camp when my Dad was the camp director. I love

this old camp and want to preserve it for future generations of children.

In 2002, I graduated from Rollins College with my MBA. During my

time in graduate school, I decided to use the analysis tools we used for

case studies to develop a business plan for Camp Woodhaven. In

2002, I turned Camp Woodhaven into a day camp focused on the

needs of working parents. My wife and my two children live with me

here at camp during the summer. Every year, my kids can’t wait to

get out of school and spend their summers here at Camp Woodhaven.

Camp is a lot of work and long hours, but there is something wonderful

that takes place here in the lives of children. Seeing all of our campers

having the time of their life gives me the greatest sense of fulfillment.

Josh– Director of Upper Camp (ages 11-13) I am elated and blessed to announce that I will be returning for yet another summer at Camp

Woodhaven. You might think me insane for returning for this my seventh year and I would

have to agree with you because you have to be a little crazy to work at a summer camp, just

ask any of my coworkers. Part of the reason I find myself returning each year is the relation-

ships that have been formed over summers with campers and staff alike. There are many

campers who were just robins and bluebirds when I started all of those years ago and just

last year they became owls and eagles.

Another gift I have received from working at Camp Woodhaven is the ability to see campers

come full circle and now work right alongside me. This marks our second year of the

“Upper Camp” program following last years pilot which I have to say far exceeded expecta-

tions thanks to all of the hard work and cooperation by staff, campers and parents who con-

tributed. I am so excited for camp to start because frankly it wouldn’t be summer without

camp. I would like to think that camp has become a part of me just as I have become a part

of camp.

This past year I worked in the Shrewsbury Public School system as a substitute teacher. I

was provided a unique opportunity in that I worked with many campers both current and

former in the school setting. It certainly was a lot of fun to recall prior camp experiences and

stories with them as we got down to learning and also generate excitement for the upcoming

summer. That being said I am really looking forward to another exciting summer with all of

my friends at Camp Woodhaven.

fluently. My favorite color is green and my favorite animal is a

Kim-Office Manager

Hi, I am Kim. I am proud to say that this will be my sixth year

returning to Camp Woodhaven. I've come to see the Camp Wood-

haven family as part of my extended family. Coming from an of-

fice background, I really enjoy the interaction with parents, direc-

tors and camp staff. As a parent, I can not say enough about the

nurturing environment my daughter has had at the camp with the

staff. She is always sad to leave. I am currently a school bus

driver for the Wachusett school district September through June

Jesus tells us to do! (I guess I’m in the right job!!!) I am very excited

about what God is going to do in and through all of us this summer!

Michael-Trading Post Manager & Camp Shopper

Hello! My name is Michael and I work in the Trading Post. I've

been working at Camp Woodhaven for six years mostly manag-

Diane-Program Facilitator & Maintenance

Greetings! My name is Diane and this will be summer #4 for me at Wood-

haven. For 20 years now, I’ve been married and living on a small farm in

Paxton. Now that my son has graduated and there are no more football

games or practices in my life, I’ve decided to start my childhood over

again. Learning to read Greek, speak Spanish, and identify trees are at the

top of my “to do” list. (The list is big so I’m never bored.) Here at camp

I’m “behind the scenes” although the green golf cart is frequently an indica-

tor of where I am. From the kitchen, to the pool, through the fields, and

out into the woods you might find me taking care of the camp property or

helping staff in ways that better enable them to give the campers great

Woodhaven experiences. So, if it’s a hose you want to spray campers with

on a hot day at the gaga pit, or you find a skunk stuck in the mole-ball

court: give a call on the radio and I’ll be there!

Taylor-Parent Communicator, Lunch Tickets, Photographer

Hello there, my name is Taylor! I'm 22 years old and currently study at

the Savannah College of Art and Design. I live in Orlando, Florida but

continue to manage to find my way up to Massachusetts each summer!

just about anything having to do with technology! This will be my

fourth year working at Camp Woodhaven, and I'm excited as ever to

get things started for the 2014 season. I will be helping out with Parent

Communicator through photos and weekly newsletters, as well as help

out with morning extended day and the Trading Post. I'm looking for-

ward to reconnecting with familiar faces, and hope to meet plenty of

year and work with the Merlins and Jays. I love singing, playing guitar,

and just being active! I am in my High School’s audition-only A-Capella

group, and I love every minute of it. I also teach fourth grade CCD at

past year, I was named the Youth Choir Coordinator. I love teaching

kids about Jesus and helping others discover our Lord through music.

When I graduate High School, I want to go into teaching. Camp is such

a wonderful combination of everything I love to do, so I am so excited

to come back to camp this summer and see everyone again!
