Principal’s report
Excursions galore!
Students from both Stage 2 and Stage 3 enjoyed 2
wonderful days away on their excursions. Stage 2
travelled to Dubbo, whilst the Stage 3 students made
the trip to Canberra. Both groups enjoyed a wonderful
time and are to be congratulated on their fantastic
behaviour, enthusiasm and attitude. My thanks to Mrs
Davis, Mrs Post, Mrs Gleeson and Mr Baldock for
ensuring that our students enjoyed these wonderful
opportunities.
Arianne, Eilee, Makeeta, Morgan and Savi check out the
amazing pool at the AIS
Stage 1 children won’t be missing out – teachers are
currently organising a special excursion for them – stay
tuned!
Kindergarten 2015
This was the final week for our Kindergarten 2015
orientation sessions. I know that all of these lovely
children are very eager to start big school next year! A
reminder to parents of these students that we will hold
our Parent Information morning on Monday 17
November, commencing at 10:00 am.
Spring Fair
Our annual Spring Fair is happening tomorrow! Thank
you to those families who have already sent back their
sold raffle ticket books; and to those who have sent in
treat-filled jars. Donations of cakes, slices, scones etc
can be brought into school tomorrow morning.
Children entering the Toy competition need to bring in
their entries tomorrow – these will be displayed in the
AV room (just near the COLA). Families will also be able
to purchase a piece of artwork completed by their
child. These will also be on display outside the AV
room.
Bandana Day
Whilst tomorrow is officially Bandana Day, we will be
holding our special day next Friday 14 November.
Bandana Day is being organised by our SRC as a
fundraiser to support CanTeen. Bandanas will be on
sale each day next week for $4 each. Bandanas may
then be worn next Friday (under school hats!).
Grandparents Day
The official Grandparents Day was a few weeks ago.
Due to our busy term we have had to hold off on our
own special celebration. Next Friday 14 November we
will be inviting all Junee North grandparents into our
school for a special morning. We are fortunate to be
receiving a visit from Sydney Girls Grammar band. They
will put on a special performance at approximately
10:00 am (time to be finalised). Following this,
grandparents are invited to visit their grandchild’s
classroom for a shared story time. At 11:30
grandparents are welcome to stay and share a picnic
lunch with their grandchildren. Tea & coffee will also
be served by our SRC to visiting grandparents.
Goodbye Mrs Pengilly
Our School Administration Manager, Mrs Gaye Pengilly
has officially retired after many years of service to
Junee North Public School. On behalf of the staff,
parents and students both past and present, I would
like to express our sincere gratitude to Gaye for her
wonderful service to the school. We wish her many
happy years ahead!

What’s happening in our school?
Stage 2 Dubbo Excursion
Last Thursday & Friday students in 3/4D & 3/4P
travelled to Dubbo. The children enjoyed a jam-packed
2 days visiting Wellington Caves, Dubbo Gaol, Ten-Pin
Bowling & a day at Western Plains Zoo, including an
education session and morning zoo walk. What a
fabulous time they had!

Stage 3 visit the capital
While Stage 2 were travelling to Dubbo, the children in
5/6B and 5/6G headed off to Canberra. On Thursday
the children visited the Australian Institute of Sport,
The National Capital Exhibition Centre and Parliament
House where we enjoyed morning tea with the
member for Riverina, Michael McCormack. The

highlight of the day was experiencing the fun of
Questacon, capped off that evening with a wonderful
lookout from Telstra Tower. Friday we headed out to
the National Museum, followed by a special visit to the
Australian War Memorial and finally discovered some
fascinating facts about voting at the Electoral
Education Centre.

Health Spot
How to deal with fussy eaters
Having a fussy eater in the family can be a challenge. It
can also have a lasting impact on a child’s health &
well-being which can lead to unwanted eating habits in
the future if not dealt with quickly. But how do you get
kids to eat new foods in the first place?
Perseverance is the key! Here are some tips:
. Stay positive – offer new types of fruit & veg in a
happy way. Make meal times a positive affair, not a
battle!
. Do not react – when your child refuses to eat,
respond calmly, so they don’t get attention – try
praising when they do eat
. Be consistent – if you give in on some occasions and
not others it can become confusing for a child: you
have to be strong!
. Keep on serving it – research shows kids need to be
given a new food an average of 8 times before they
accept it.
. Be a good role model – children copy their parents’
behaviour. Eat healthy foods too!
