“ … a powerful statement about independence that rings truer than any Thelma and Louise school of feminism…” Brisbane Review

Set in far outback Queensland in the 60’s, an unlikely friendship forms between two women of wildly different temperaments, united in their abandonment by the men in their lives and their passion for all things country and all things American.

Together they grope their way through the confusions of the not-so-swinging sixties towards independence, carried on dreams and the songs of Hank Williams and Patsy Kline.

Calendar GirlsBY tim fiRth

When Annie’s husband John dies of Leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer, Lawrence. The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales.

The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.

The Magic HourBY vaneSSa BateS diRected BY chRiS Bendall

Thought you knew Grimm’s fairy tales? Think again. Little Red Riding Hood meets Trainspotting in this wicked retelling of classic bedtime stories.

Helpmann Award winner Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, The Secret River) plays a cast of sideline female characters who’ve been updated and dropped into the gutters and alleyways of bleak Australian life.

From one of Australia’s most original contemporary playwrights, Vanessa Bates, The Magic Hour is a gutsy one-woman comedy told with dark humour and soulful song. A night of stories told at twilight with werewolves and a touch of magic…

Queens of the outback is about three Melbourne drag queens that turn the outback upside down after accepting a gig in regional Australia. Join them in their mischievous and crazy road trip. “ More than a bunch of drummers…TaikOz can soar in hypnotic waves of rhythm.” Sydney Morning Herald

TAIKOZ Crimson SkyfeatURinG SatSUKi OdamURa (BaSS KOtO)

Australia’s world-acclaimed taiko drumming ensemble, TaikOz, presents a stunning new work. Introspection, meditative melodies and sheer explosive might sit alongside light-hearted exuberance in TaikOz’s Crimson Sky.

The thunderous drumming of the taiko is interwoven with the hypnotic melodies of the shakuhachi and shinobue bamboo flutes, voice and a rare performance on the bass koto, a traditional Japanese 17-stringed plucked instrument to be played by special guest artist Satsuki Odamura.

“A funny, witty insight into everyday Australian women.” Australian Stage

BombshellsBY JOanna mURRaY-Smith

Six women on the brink. Which one are you?

Multi-award winning Australian playwright and author Joanna Murray-Smith’s highly acclaimed play Bombshells is a journey from crisis to hilarity, via the secret thoughts of a group of women all linked by more than just their proximity to the edge.

With singing, dancing, comedy and the joys of sheer honesty, this extraordinary one-woman show strips back the façade at a whirlwind pace to reveal the things that sometimes, we’d just love to say out loud.

Cannonball

In a deeply impressive 55 minute performance that blurs the line between comedy and drama, Dandenong damsel Tegan Higginbotham bravely recounts her dubious decision to give pro-boxing a go. Spurred by her tomboy behaviour and inspired by Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby, Higginbotham peppers gags and A-grade comic digressions across an essentially dramatic story. She entered herself into a Pro-Boxing Competition and punched on in front of 1,500 people. It’s safe to say, her Mum wasn’t happy. Tegan builds to a fight finale so real, raw and moving it qualifies more as quality theatre than straight comedy.

Winner at the 2012 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Green Room Award, Emily Taylor brings her particular brand of black comedy to Wyndham.

Delving into the complexity of modern urban life, comedic shape-shifter Taylor uses fragmented narrative to reveal the fantastical behind the mundane and the disturbing beneath the ordinary as her myriad of characters grapple with happiness and mortality, careening together towards their fates.
