The summer is moving very fast and soon it will be time for CSSA. We are looking forward to a great time in Cedar Rapids as many fun events are being planned.

July has been a busy month. We just returned from Imperial Session in Charlotte N.C. We had many issues on the table and worked through all of them. It was my honor to nominate Imperial Sir Jeffrey Sowder for Imperial 2nd Ceremonial Master during the Imperial Session and Imperial Sir Jeffrey was elected unanimously. I also had the pleasure of escorting Lady Cheryl Sowder to the head table at the Ladies Luncheon in Charlotte. What a beautiful group of ladies attending the luncheon including my Lady, Pam Schrant, 1st lady of Midian.

Thanks to Chief Rabban Lonnie Nichols for arraigning the Midian Golf Stag at Brae-burn Golf Course. I hope all the members that played in the golf stag had a good time as I know the winners probably had a better time. Thanks to all the aides and especially our Chief Aide Gary Gelvin for his assistance to help make the Stag a success.

The Shrine Bowl activities were in Empo-ria, Ks this year and as always a great time. We get to see many of our counterparts and other friend we only see maybe once a year. The Shrine Bowl Banquet was a hit again this year as the all Masonic Band performed at the banquet. The guest speakers contributed to the success of the banquet. and every top liner that has worked so hard this year. Nobles, we are closing in on Fall Ceremonial and we have a goal of 50 for the fall class. We will all have to work hard to accomplish this goal. I would like to thank the Nobles that work so hard in our Masonic Lodges to get these candidates ready to be-come Shriners. We must remember that we CAN CONTROL OUR DESDINY – CRE-ATE OUR FUTURE - JUST 1.

Nobles, if you can’t find just 1 new mem-ber, help your club/unit find two. Lets get to the finish line with over 100 new nobles for 2012

escort to the Shrine Bowl Parade. We need to thank the Shrine Bowl players for a game well fought. These young men played their hearts out for the crowd and in full support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. It does not matter who won or lost but that the Shrine Kids are and continue to be the WINNERS!

As we enter the late part of summer there are many activities and parades we can at-tend. I know you can’t attend every event or parade but come to as many as you can. This will show your support for Midian. Try to attend as many parades as you can as this is where we showcase our skills of parading.

As all of you know my passion for 2012 is membership. I would like to thank each

We respectfully hope that no errors are made listing these donations. It is never our intent to make errors, but they can happen. Each donation is important for the

Sometimes the so called “bad things“ happening in our lives has the ability to “Open our eyes” to the good things that we were not paying attention to before.

There is this topic out there in our world today called “ CANCER “ – When I think about just Cancer, I remember that there are some people out there who want a new house….. or …. want a new car…. or … even want a new mobile phone…. And some think about just losing some weight. But, think about it one minute, someone out there is battling cancer and all they want is ONE thing, just ONE thing, to win the battle over cancer. Maybe most of you will not do it, but please just take 5 minutes and stop your day and take a break and think about someone that YOU might know who has either lost their battle, - or – for someone who is fighting it now – take a moment and say a small prayer for that person. Thank you..

Well, we are about half way through the summer months out here in Western Kansas – and this summer I have been told is one of the hottest and most humid in a very long time. The wheat crops this year were harvested the earliest that they have ever been from what some of the farmers were saying… Plus you all know, with it being July and Dodge City and Kansas what do we have – NOT just the HOT weather – come one think about it – It is once again Dodge City Days and Fair time around the state.

Wheat harvest is over and they are not just spraying and doing the maintenance and getting ready for planting another crop – but it is once again Dodge City Days in Dodge..

The Dodge City Shrine Club held their

July monthly meeting on the 11th July at the Central Station Bar

and Grill. There was a truly wonderful turnout for it being so hot in Dodge and being middle of July.

Seems that all of those who came out in the HOT weather had a great time with both the Food and conversation with great friends.

The parades for the months of July were as follows: The Fowler and Lewis yearly parade had a great turnout. The “Dodge City Days Parade” was held on the 28th of July. The Shrine members and clowns were out in force for this for this is another big year for the Dodge City Days. Of course, a “TRULY” REALLY special parade was held on the 4th of August in which the Shrine Club is the spon-sors for the annual “Kiddies Parade” held on a Saturday during the Dodge City Days Festival.

There will be a 90th Birthday Party for Alice Elder the wife of Bob Elder on Sunday, August 19th from 2-5 at the St Bernard Lodge in Dodge City. The party will be come and go and Alice requests no gifts

The DC Shrine Club will hold their August meeting at the Casey’s Cowtown Club – 503 E. Trail St., Dodge City, KS (620) 227 – 5225 in Dodge City on 8th August at 6:30 pm for social hour and dinner served at 7:00 pm.

Just remember, please – Just ONE drop of “ HAPPINESS” can cause the following: (1) Smile; (2) Optimism; (3) Self – worth; (4) Reduced Depression; (5) Improved Health – Please pass it on ! Pass on that ONE drop of Happiness to another person today, just one and see what happens…..

“May All Your Days Be Circus Days”Have a truly blessed and wonderful month.

Good night America wherever you are.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. I know the weather has been hot but there are still many activities to participate in. Speaking of activities to attend, SCSC will be coming out of the dark into the light for our August meet-ing. Please plan to attend. We have several topics to discuss. While I am at it I want to remind everyone that our marquee event of the year is getting closer. The SCSC Hog Roast is going through a few changes this year. Don’t worry, we are still going to be out at Gene Alexander’s farm and it will still be a great time. We are, however, going to bill this event as the SCSC Cook Out and Barn

Dance. The menu will change slightly with pork loin but besides

that you will still be able to enjoy all of the SCSC hospitality you can handle. The event will be on October 20th with

the social starting at 6 pm and the dinner at 7pm. Please plan to attend.

As always there are plenty of things to attend. Speaking of events, CSSA is coming up soon and will be over before you know it. I know I will be there and I am sure many of the SCSC faithful will be in attendance. I hope to see you there.

Until next month, try to stay out of the heat and have fun.

Kingman County OTTO STUBERReporter

Well it looks like I get to blow my own horn. I get my 25 year pins for Blue Lodge, Royal Arch, Council, Knight Templar, and the Shrine this year. I have top lined several in my 25 year trek for light, spanning in two centuries. I’m looking for another 25 years to be just as good if not better. I thought Noble Roland Belcher and Lady Dona was there to see me receive my pin. Well that was not the case. Noble Roland was there for even a greater reason. Noble Roland received his 50 year pin with 5 other Midian Shriners.

My Ladies Melissa and Kaitlynn Rose Stu-

ber were in attendance with me. We dined with Noble Roland and

his Lady Dona. We feasted on hamburgers cooked by the Midian Chefs and enjoyed some camels milk in the Oasis.

We all enjoyed the children of the Shrine Children’s Hospital. Again we all saw why we support the Plane of Mercy and the Shriner’s Hospitals.

Looks like Kingman County Shrine club will have a “Red Solo” cup party in August, open to all bodies and prospects.

Off to the OASIS.

August! Happens every year around here, and it’s usually the busiest part of the year for the Harper County Boys. August means The Harper County Fair. The Harper Ma-sonic Lodge and the Bucking T’s will have finished up with the Attica Rodeo and gone to work on the Demolition Derby and Harper County Fair Parade and Hospitality. The numbers could be much smaller this year as CSSA is the same week as the Fair. However, the T’s will buck up and down just the same. We look forward to a great time and as always we will welcome any parade unit, guests, and or friends and fair goers with a refreshing reception. September will be big for the T’s this year so please check your schedules and join the Harper County Bucking T’s for our First Ever Poker Run and our Annual Golf Tournament. The Poker Run is Saturday September 15th and will

begin in Harper and have stops in Harper, Barber, and Sumner coun-

ties. Watch the Topics for more details or visit a Harper County Member for entry forms. The golf will be at the

Suppesville Golf Course located on HWY 42, Saturday September 29th with a 4 man scramble and a 9 am start time. Expect a great day of golf, good food, drinks, prizes, and as much fun as you can handle. Speaking of fun, Noble Larry Gaug must be a pretty fun guy. He keeps a placemat, table settings, and a menu from the club in his desk at work. If this keeps up, the next thing you know Nobles Sam Denton, and Gary Gelvin Jr. will probably dress up like waitresses and start taking orders. They do kind of remind me of Alice and Flo. I wonder who would play the part of Mel?

Bonus Topics, We only run for the money, got no strings attached.

Harvey County Club& Hobo Unit

JOHN HECKMANReporter

Hobo President Noble Don Dody reports the Toter and Ca-boose were almost longer than the much-shortened route of the Newton Chisholm Trail Festival parade recently. The troubled festival itself was cancelled but last-minute civic demand and support resulted in a parade…sort-of…three blocks long. Hobos also attended the Kechi parade last month but missed Park City.

August events include the 6:00 PM Harvey County Fair parade on the 4th, and Halstead Old Settlers 10:00 AM Saturday the 11th. No hospitality at Halstead this year, as date conflicts with CSSA. Thanks to Unit VP, Noble Rex Yohn, driver Noble Lonnie Patterson, Nobles Roy Engle, Larry Wells, Cliff Knauss and all others who “keep ‘em rolling” parade after parade, year after year.

Congrats to Noble Donnie Anderson’s grand-daughter, Stephanie Oursler; she of Alaskan sled-dog care fame, completing her degree and graduating as a Doctor of

Veterinary Medicine from K-State University. She delighted us with a fine program not so

long ago.Newton Lodge #142 Secretary, Noble

Gary Dix reports a busy summer; with four Master Mason degrees recently conferred and more petitions in the “pipeline.” Ma-sonry is alive and well in Harvey County. Noble Dix also thanked those who helped with the firework set-up, sales and tear-down, saying the longer sales period and fewer local competitors this year resulted in a profitable event.

Our annual family picnic will be Sunday the 26th, again in the cool confines of the Newton American Legion. Nobles Gary Dix, John Heckman, Rex Yohn and other volunteers will again man the grills for top-notch burgers and dogs. We almost set fire to a Liaison Officer who “helped” cook one year, so Noble Rocky McWilliams better be careful!

Come early, come hungry, and come smile with us, the fun-iest Club in Midian.

Greenwood County CARL “C.F.” COXReporter

The summer heat is definitely on, but the activities continue. We cooked burgers on July 4th at the Party in the Park along with our Masonic Brethren, and I don’t think anybody missed not sitting in a fireworks stand this year!

We had our second steak cookout in July and as customary, it was our prospect night. We had three potential prospects join us for the evening and hopefully we may see them again at Fall Ceremonial. Speaking of steak cookouts, I hear that some of our more adventurous 3-Wheelers went to the Calaboose Degree put on by the Keystone Cops that afternoon and barely made it to the steak feed on time. Sounds like they had a fun afternoon!

Noble Warren Farr recently had surgery on his neck and is at home recovering slowly. Now is the time to take it slow and easy and let everything heal. I’m sure Noble Warren would be glad to hear from us while he is at home recuperating.

At our July meeting, it was decided

that we will continue with our Haunted House again this year.

Many of us have done this year after year and we REALLY need some new ideas and people to refresh the “Old

Meat Locker”. We will start planning and having work days in September, so put your thinking caps on and help us with one of our big fund raisers for the year. Not to mention… it is a hell of a lot of fun!

Since I always report on everyone else, I would like to take this opportunity to say that Lady Jeleane and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary on July 11th. Of course it was spent mostly working on our house remodel! I am a very lucky guy to have married and spent the last 25 years with my best friend, who has been by my side through all the good times and bad. Thanks to Lady Jeleane for putting up with me and making me a better person.

By the time you read this, we will have served pancakes at the County Fair, and be in to the dog days of August. Stay cool and have fun!

A fine time was had by all at our summer steak fry hosted by the Walz family. Great steaks wonderfuly conversations and just a great time for all. Thanks again to the Walz family for hosting us. A great turnout for the 4th of july parade at Hardtner and no unit quit on the parade route. And dont forget October 6 golf

tournament at Anthony. Hope all are staying moderately cool this

summer. With all this welcome degree work Delta is staying lite all summer for the first time I’ve known in my 55

years of masonry. Hope everyone is enjoying this and Shrine benefits from it too.

Keystone Kops “MOON”Reporter

CSSA is here! I hope I see you there. If not, why? It just happens to be the most fun and the most important event of the year. Illustrious Sir Terry Schrant and Lady Pam have been plan-ning this for your pleasure for several years. Ask yourself about supporting your Potentate and Chief for 2012. Everyone who goes is rewarded with the pleasure and fun that goes with it. Not only is it a trip or vacation out of town but a true time to get to see all your Shrine friends from all over and enjoy their company for a few days. Well, if you aren’t there, you missed it! Cedar Rapids, Iowa here we come, ready or not! Oh yeah, come by and see the Original Swamp People if you get a chance Friday morning at CSSA.

This has been quite a month for the Black Camel around the Keystone Kop’s world. Virginia Criswell, Nicki Shirkey (Virginia’s daughter) Darrin Cox, and Dan Dreese all lost their Mothers (Grandmother) recently. We send our thoughts and prayers to you all in your loss. They will certainly be missed as all Mothers and Grandmothers are.

Man, was that a cool Calaboose Degree or what? I was very impressed by the turnout and you Koppers really put on a show! We have a plan to do this again before the end of the year, so keep your eyes on the Topics

for when it happens. You will be amazed by the Degree and the

fun it is. I want to thank our own Fritz Criswell for building the main fixture for the Calaboose Degree. It was a piece

of art work I tell you. I had seen pictures of it, but they didn’t do justice to how it really looked. Thanks Fritzwell!

Keystone Kops and Friends went off without a hitch, except the almost unbear-able hot weather that week. It shortened the tournament a little. Team Zebco couldn’t quite repeat, but came in a blazing second. Team Ranger was third. And then there were the rest.

This news flash just in: it seems How-ard “Crash” Brooks has signed up for the Demo Derby at the state fair. He was seen practicing recently at Sedgwick Co. Park on Hurley’s new pickup. Hurley is out looking for a replacement pickup (he claims his was a total loss) as this article goes to press. More to come on this as “Crash” lines up more practice vehicles before the fair.

I Wonder?? Will Roy and Bubba get a gator or will the gator get them?? I Wonder?? Have you ever stayed in Lamoni, IA ?? I Wonder?? Sherman, can you buy 24K gold there?? I Wonder??

Oriental BandI am starting off this month with

same sad news. Long time veteran bandsman, Noble Ed Barbee’s, lady Karine, lost her tough fight with Cancer in July. All our thoughts and sorrows go out to Ed and his family.

Our own guy Noble Dan Krenke and lady Jo Dee did a fine job of putting together the Peace, Love & Shriners party in July. I couldn’t attend due to an illness in the family (mine!) Would anyone like to buy a hippie t-shirt only worn once? I did hear several attendees were slumped over at their tables with brownie crumbs on their face!

The band got together for a social dinner at Stroud’s on June 16th. Our ladies liaison, Maggie Hartup is trying to get one put to-

gether every month. Veterans are also invited to the shindigs!

4 brave OB guys, some divan mem-bers and a few others ventured out to Vulcan Park for the first Calaboose

Degree for the membership, hosted by the ever zealous keystone Kops. Having gone thru myself several years ago, it was a real treat to see my friends having a good time together! Can you get a visual picture? I know those that were there can!

When you get a chance ask High Priest & Prophet Wayne Wells to show you his personal divan pacifier? And also ask him why he missed the above degree, the only elected divan guy who did!

Ambassadors BOB NORRISReporter

The Ambassadors have been about as busy as any unit could be consider-ing the excessive

Heat we’ve been suffering here in Midian. Some of our membership have been traveling in an attempt to escape the “Hot Sands” of southwest Kansas. Gene Lygrisse, PP and Lady Betty were able to make it over to Branson, as soon as, the wheat harvest was complete. Asst. Director Kenny Loffland and Lady Billie attended a family reunion in Pennsylvania, and Ward Marrs was also out of town attending his family’s get together in Omaha. To name a few.

We had another delightful dinner meeting on July 19th. It was at the Larkspur Bistro and Bar in Old Town, just around the corner form the Shrine Center. Our hosts were Noble Glenn Holmes and Lady Carol. A good time was had by all. Many thanks for your efforts.

It’s sad to report that none of our group made it to Imperial this year, but we’re gear-ing up for C.S.S.A. This reporter and Lady Shirley are going to test the hospitality of our

Ambassadors in Iowa.Just a note in passing. I met another

Noble about a year ago who was wear-ing a fez displaying Ambassadors on it. I told him I certainly did approve of all

the fine things theAmbassadors do, especially at the time of

Installation and during the Potentate’s Ball. He was quick to inform me that he wore the Ambassador Fez because he as a child, had been treated at a Shrine Hospitals for Children. He added that this was a privilege extended to any former patient who has grown into adulthood, taken the obligations of Masonry and been created a Noble of our Mystic Order. Well, I was favorably impressed and said that I wasn’t sure that the membership as a whole was aware of the duplication.

It’s late at the key board for this ol’ typist. It was good to see so many of you on July 28th at the successful and exciting Shrine Bowl in Emporia this year. This is what makes us proud to wear the Fez.

Tin Lizzies ALAN TURNERReporter

Again not a whole lot has hap-pened in the last month with the unit. Illnesses and schedules have made participation pretty light this year so far. The unit really needs an influx of new members to rejuvenate and build on a strong legacy built by the veterans. Just being able to sustain the unit is not a desired state and not helping the Shrine goals in general. The Lizzies have a long and proud tradition in the Shrine which we really wish to continue.

ATTENTION LIzzIE LOVERS! We are still looking for a few good or rea-

sonably sane members to join one of the most recognizable parade units in the Shrine. Come and join the veterans as we aooooga and at all

of the smiling faces along the parade routes. We especially like to

see all the kids faces light up as we drive by and wave. It is a great time and we are making it really very economical and

easy to join a parade unit. Right now for only $125 a year for dues and insurance, which includes use of a car (no purchase necessary), we can make you one of the parade elite. We also have some used Lizzie garb available in some sizes. If this sounds like something you would be interested in contact Commander Fred Thompson at 316-617-2628, e-mail [email protected], or grab a Lizzie at any event and we will be more than glad to talk to you. Looking forward to a meeting you!

Happy August, Patrolmen and La-dies. Hope this article finds everyone in good health and good spirits! Hope everyone is ready for CSSA in a few days! It’s been quite a challenge to get everything prepared this year. Thanks to all of you who have rearranged your schedules to attend our practices. Without your dedication we would not be able to compete. And for that we thank you, and not to mention your Ladies. You ladies also have to sacrifice your time with your Nobles and honey do lists so that we can have a successful CSSA. We just want you all to know how much we value and appreciate the Ladies behind the Patrol. And on that note, a BIG thanks goes out to PP Warren “Doc” “Little Drummer Boy” Rensner and his Lady Theresa for opening their lovely home for our Onto Party this year!

Some congratulations are in order to Noble Alan Geist and his lady Lisa on their recent nuptials. They were married July 7th.

Welcome to the Patrol family Lisa and god bless you for having Loyd as

a father-in-law. I’d like to wish a Happy belated

Birthday to Captain Dick Simpson and 1st Lieutenant Kyle Rhorer. They were

both born in 1951 just days apart. (I’m unsure if that’s 1951 A.D. or B.C) Hope you had a great one!

Also our condolences go out to Sanford Kaufman and his family. His brother has re-cently passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

A bit of humorous (not to him I’m sure) news to pass along… Noble Larry “Mud-Puppy” Wilson lost an important member of his golf entourage… His trusty (not to mention costly) remote control push cart, which he in-advertently drove off into the water at the golf course along with his clubs and cell phone. Hope everything dries out soon!

See you all at CSSA! March on Patrolmen!

EUGENE ALEXANDERReporter

Starting our July 11th meeting brought forth kudos to Noble Ron Boese and Noble Jeff Breault for a su-perb June Classics dinner meeting with our Ladies and guests! Key meeting discussions were the upcoming Shrine Bowl at Emporia and the importance this event is as a major fund raiser for our Shrine Children. CSSA in Cedar Rapids was also talked through in length. Noble Ron Boese and Lady Carol, Noble Gene Alexander and Lady Melinda, Noble Gary Harris and Lady Jan, Noble Bob Giesen, and Lady Feryl, Noble Cliff Premer and Lady Kay are tasked with representing the Midian Classics. Illus-trious Sir Terry Schrant and Lady Pam and Chief Rabban Lonnie Nichols (our Liaison Officer) and Lady Melinda will be joining the Midian Classics for their banquet and other CSSA festivities.

July 13th the Classics arrived at the Wel-lington Wheat Festival in fine order. We had a great parade. Those who took part in the parade were Noble Gene Alexander, Noble Gary Harris, Noble Bob Giesen, Noble Bob Griffith, Noble Jim Groff, and Noble John Stewart. Lady Melinda Alexander, Lady Jan Harris, Lady Judy Groth, and Lady Shirley Stewart were also present. Afterwards we went to the American Legion for hospitality sponsored by the Wheat Festival Committee. Wonderful food and great hospitality!!! It was a cool 84 degrees at lineup and a huge crowd along the street … a very memorable parade.

Since some of us will be on the road to Cedar Rapids during our August meeting time, we will have our meeting there. We will have an outing in September for the Classics and

Midian Classicstheir ladies, hopefully at the Ben-

ton Airport Café. Noble Jim Groff is checking on the availability and will let everyone know by e-mail.

Cars and repairs seem to be a fact of life. Classic cars take that to a new level.

Noble Cliff Premer has kept us abreast of the ongoing saga on the restoration of his pride and joy Firebird, along with the suspense of readiness for CSSA. Our President, Noble Gene Alexander, shared with us the mishap with pearl (a cream colored 1957 T-Bird): Two tires separated, somehow resulting in 4 new whitewall American Racing tires on wire spoke hubs mysteriously replacing the old wheels! Noble Ray Jones’ ever-so-sweet Corvette has been reported to be in the car hospital getting her backside lifted – perhaps a tummy tuck too.

Say, there is a rumor that our President, Noble Gene Alexander, is going to turn 3/4 of a century old on August 6, so we all need to show him some respect and some sympathy to Lady Melinda for living with an old critter like that!! Noble Andrew Snow hit the big 60 year mark on 6/23. Noble Bob Giesen will be celebrating a birthday 8/30. Lady Deb Feekes will be 29 again on 7/8. Anniversaries: Noble Gene Alexander and Lady Melinda celebrate theirs on 8/20. Noble Gary Harris and Lady Jan celebrate theirs on 8/11.

Our prays will be with Noble Bob Griffith for his upcoming eye surgery as well as our concerns for nobles and ladies not put in print.

Come on down and join us. We so love to have a great time! Call Noble Bob Giesen at 316-721-4178, or just show up at one of our regular meeting, the second Wednesday of the month at 7 PM at the Shrine.

Million Dollar BandAt deadline, we don’t know how

our Benefit Concert benefitted the Shriners Hospitals or the Plane of Mercy because the concert will take place 12 days later. We do know that working with a real pro, a musician and singer of Donna Tucker’s talent and experi-ence, has been delightful. I hope you didn’t miss the concert.

Our priority has been to prepare for the concert, however, the Polkatz played for the Boeing Retirees at their Haysville venue on July 3, and performed before the Stated Meeting on the 18th.

The August schedule contains only re-hearsals, except for the few of us who will travel to Cedar Rapids of the Shrine Band Association portion of CSSA, August 9 through 11. Performances may get scheduled in between now and then, of course.

It is rewarding to represent the values of

Masonry, the fun of Shrine and the good works of the Shrine Hospitals

by playing music for various groups all over the area. We would like to share that satisfaction with more musicians.

If you know of someone who through music might become a Shriner, please point him out to any band member, or, tell him to bring his horn or sticks to the Mecca Room at 7:00 pm on Monday night. He’ll find a warm welcome.

I’ll leave you with some quotes from some real pro musicians. Dizzy Gillespie said about playing the trumpet “Some days you get up and put the horn to your chops and it sounds pretty good and you win. Some days you try and nothing works and the horn wins. This goes on and on and then you die and the horn wins.” Florida based trumpeter/arranger, Jack Daney said “To be a musician is a curse. To NOT be one is even worse.

Cartoon DOUGLAS CHARTIERReporter

Well it has been a hot one and the furries are trying to beat the heat. The cartoons rolled out with a good turnout for the Kechi Parade and even though there were a couple of distractions along the route, the unit was still a hit as always. Come on . . . who doesn’t love watching the Toons melt away the pounds, or at least shed the water weight in heat. You can always tell when the Toons are coming by the cheers, or for other reasons, if you are by chance down-wind on a particularly sultry day. Even with the Snags with the Tractor during the Parade, all had a good time.

The Cartoons also had a good turnout for the Elk County Stagg and the Ladies Hagg Parties. Great Job Elk County!!!! The Cartoons tested the Old Adage “It is all Fun and Games until someone looses an Eye”, except in this case it was a little blood on the forehead, a little pain, and it was, for lack of better words, Hilarious, or at least it was after the initial “are you OK?”. I will say the South Bank will never be the same and the fish’s ears are probably still ringing. For all of those that missed it this year, when it comes around again next year, DON’T! Again we had a great time and Thanks!

And Last but Not Least of all – Nobles, Ladies, and guests, the

Second Annual Cartoon Unit Taco Feed and Raffle will be on Saturday, Novem-ber 17th, 2012, New Nobles Night. The

Tickets will go on sale soon, so be on the look or hit up one of the Cartoon Members. Tickets will also be available at the front desk. Keep your eyes on the Future Topics Articles for more information. It is possible there may even be a Salsa Sale.

Birthday wishes go out to: For July Lady Sarah Herndon and Nobles Dean Lauter-bach, David Kirby, & Lawrence Lee. For August Lady Meghan Blubaugh and Nobles Ken Rinke, Jackie Broyles, Landon Wil-liams, Tim Berry, Kurt Siegrist, Bruce Lemaire, and Jack Dunsford.

On the Lighter Side – Why didn’t Rabbit mind Pooh being in the Garden? Because it was well fertilized!!! Get It? He had Pooh in his Garden! Ok for not laughing at that one, Why did Tigger keep looking in the Toilet? Give Up? He was looking for Pooh!! Laugh Now!!! or you may get another one!!!!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sum-mer, from your favorite toons.

- As always, having fun & helping children!

Antique Autos DALE GIBSONReporter

Sorry all, I missed most of the July meeting so this will be short.

On June 23 we had the Kechi parade attended by Nobles Kent Butz, Fred Bohrer, Jerry Elscott and Edward Chrisco. I understand that it was a great parade and hospitality. Well done all.

By the time you read this Automobilia will be past and we will be looking to other show and parades. I was great to see every-one at Automobilia, I won’t name all who were there because I did not see everyone and after a short night on Friday, driving to Oklahoma City for my Uncle’s 100th birth-day I was beat. But I know a few were there showing their cars.

The upcoming events are Automoibilia on July 14, our July Social on July 21, and The Shrine Bowl Parade on July 28.

Our Antique Autos group would really like to see all the members that want to attend meetings to be able to do so. Please call me at 361-0758 or 993-4463 and leave a message.

I will make the arrangements to get a ride provided. Birthday wishes to Nobles Larry

Light, Win Roach and Willie Wil-liams, and Ladies Linda Butz, and Annie

Roskos. Please help me with birthdays as I do not have all of them listed on my spreadsheet.

Please keep Nobles Charlie Sill, Randy Edwards, Randy’s father George Edwards and Willie William in your thoughts and prayers, as each struggle with heath problems.

Put Thursday December 6th on your calendars that will be our Christmas party at Hanger One at a time to be announced.

Let’s get ready to be represented at as many parades this year as possible, and to have as much fun as we possibly can; but let’s be ever mindful that everything we do is for our Shrine kids.

Again all sorry it was so short but have a great summer and stay cool.

Horse PatrolHear it is August. We will not be

taking any horses to CSSA this year. I know that there will be several Horse Patrol members that will be there. This reporter has had surgery on July 23. Hopefully we can go to the Shrine Bowl. in Emporia August 30th. We have One birthday for August Noble Kevin Holub on

the 6th. We have one Anniver-sary which is August 11th for Noble

that time will decide where we will holed our meeting. Until next time

Well summer is sure here, hot and way to dry. We could sure use some good rain (you remember when water falls from clouds in the sky). At our June meeting it looked as half of our members were on vacation but we had 7 trips to pass out. We welcomed a new member, Walter McIves and his lady Clara, they should be a good fit to our group. All our vans are up in good shape except for van-10 with a little miner damage to the right fender.

The main events in the future are the Shrine Bowl the last of July and parades Aug 4 Sumner Co. fair at Caldwell and Harvey Co Free Fair in Newton, Aug 11 Halstead

Old Settlers Parade, and Aug 19 Mulvane parade. With at least one

and sometimes 2 parades every weekend in September. Check with John Parker and Ken Dainty on times and what

parades we will be making.Oh yes CSSA is coming early this year

August 9-11, which is going to be rough on us who had planned on going to Sturgis for the annual Bike Rally. Oh well you don’t have to go to South Dakota every year. The Krazy Klowns will be cooking steaks again before the Post CSSA party on August 25. Hope to see you there.

Also remember Drive Safe and God Bless.

Electraglide Elite N. B. FORREST, K.G.C.Reporter

Sounds to this Reporter like the Past Captains Ride by Bro J. R. Stevenson down to Zenda for Dinner was outstanding! According to those that made it, the food was terrific and the fellowship even better. Thanks definitely go to J.R. for putting that together. While in the J.R. “thanking mode” there’s plenty due him and his Lady Jean for all their work on EE Vests, Ball Caps and Jackets too. They’ve made countless trips to the sewing lady and to Illustrious Sir John Auch’s – J. T. Enterprises to fill orders for all the garments for new Members. Behind the scenes this is a huge undertaking…thank you both!

By the time this article comes out, Bro Greg Reida should be back on his feet (and his bike) following some plumbing surgery. Here’s hoping he’s twisting the throttle stron-ger than ever. We’ll need this Past Captain’s help too with Bad Boar and the Poker Run as we head into the Fall schedule. News has it that another Past Captain, Bro John Chambers is doing better with health issues too. John says “he’s beginning to get his

strength back which puts him back aboard his bike” and that’s

what the rest of us all need to hear. Captain Greg reminds us that we

need to be hard at the effort for both the EE Poker Run on Sunday September 16

and the Bad Boar Degree Stag on Saturday November 10. Beyond Circus Sales Brothers these two events are our key Fund Raising opportunities! Getting the word out means a ton to success on both. Placing the fliers and selling the tickets is critical, but unique items for the door prizes and especially the auction(s) makes a big difference on a suc-cessful event. If you have collectables that you can donate or if you know of a potential sponsor that could chip in with goodies – we can sure use em!

In case you haven’t noticed, the EE is growing…ain’t it great!! Remember, the Unit that plays together stays together. Main-tain the Momentum!

YoshiGreetings from Yoshi! The past

few months have been busy and full of events. I’ll try to cover it all on one page.

We’d like to thank Ed Parker for al-lowing our unit to host the hospitality at his house after the Kechi parade on June 23rd. A big thank you goes to Ed’s wife Rita and their neighbor (sorry, I couldn’t recall her name) for helping with the cooking while the grill was being prepared. Yoshi appreciates all of your help and generosity. On hand for the Yoshi unit were Nobles Brian Chestnut, Aaron Tabing, Paul Ditty, Chris Hurt, Bruce Lemaire, and Alan Martin and many Yoshi Ladies. Thanks goes to Noble Nick Young of the Nascarts for helping with the grilling. We hope everyone enjoyed the parade and the after party.

A blast was had at the Shepler’s house for the Fourth of July. Thank you to all who participated and brought some of the great food that was there. The fireworks were great and I believe rivaled downtown’s. No fingers or eyes were lost but rockets were going every-

where! Watch out! They still weren’t loud enough to keep Noble

Gary McMillin awake though. Our Treasurer, Noble Brad Heine

says hello.Yoshi participated in several parades

these past few months and we always have a lot of fun. Kechi, Park City, Cheney, and Wellington were some of the parades we rode in. So far this year our karts have been running fast and furious. We are practicing regularly for CSSA and think we have a decent routine this year. We’ve added what we do well, speed!

Our unit has another fundraiser and we are selling raffle ticket s for a cool engine bar-b-q grill. You have to see it to believe it. It was on display at the auto show in Old Town and will be in and out of the Shrine the next few months. Ask a Yoshi member for a ticket or two. The final drawing is in November so you have plenty of time to get some. The Yoshi Ladies have Midian Shrine tote bags for sale; get yours if you haven’t already. See you at CSSA!

“It was one of those special eve-nings when everything just came together” said Music Director Noble Al Brumbaugh, referring to a recent concert before a large and apprecia-tive audience at the Kansas Masonic Home. In particular was the frequent applause when veteran trumpeter Noble Wilbur Geeding and retired music teacher trombonist Noble Bob Wambold dug in on “swapping-fours,” improvising alternate four-bar solos with such skill, innovation and vigor that even the other members of the band were cheering!

That spirit prevailed and the evening became a fun-filled musical romp. Noble Al added, “That sort of performance can’t be rehearsed…can’t be planned…it just has to happen.” Guitarist Noble Jim Malia quipped, “Wouldn’t you like to have some of that magic in a box to use when things sometimes go the other way?” Amen to that, Noble Jim!

We enjoyed the fun and hospitality at the Park City parade, but reed man Noble Rick Milhon unpacked his clarinet just before that

Hillbilly Band JOHN HECKMANReporter

event and found no mouthpiece! He missed the parade but made it home and back in time to work our first-ever concert in their park following.

He later ordered three spares…just in case.

And, so as not to pick on just Noble Rick, drummer Noble John Heckman worked a “civilian” show in Junction City recently, returning home with lady Bert and guests, but minus stick bag and lyrics book! Other way ‘round would have been worse! Noble John says an extra 180 mile round trip at today’s gas prices will do wonders for your memory, if not your marriage!

July 20th we were honored to perform for the first time at the Lakeside Park Sum-mer Concert series in McPherson…details next column. August events include regular rehearsal Thursday the 2nd, Midian Stated Meeting Wednesday the 15th, and the Old Town Farmer’s Market Saturday the 25th.

Whatever your political persuasion, re-member to vote August 7th.

Motor Patrol NORM CONLEYReporter

July’s MP meeting was at the Scotch with Captain PP John Auch gett ing organized for CSASMC competition in ‘Near Chicago’ Iowa. Member present were Captain PP John Auch led Nobles Lester Un-rein, John Wyckoff, Jeff Breault, Lynn Ungles, Paul Morris, Bob Ragsdale, PP Ron Capps, Mickey West, IMP Sir Jeff Sowder and me. Noble Paul Morris in-vited two people to the meeting. A short report on Charlotte Imperial Session was given. Asst. Raban Ed Day reported on upcoming activity in Midian.

The Wellington Wheat Festival Page saw Captain John Auch leading Nobles Jeff Breault, Lynn Ungles, Paul Mor-ris, John Wyckoff, PP Ron Capps and Al Cooper. Noble Reiferd Acord gets credit since he started out for the parade and was turned around by heavy rain near Harper. Hospitality at the American Le-gion was great and Eric you could have smoked there.

Automobilia saw the Motor Patrol sup-porting the Shrine Showing with Jeepsters of Noble Mickey West, PP John Auch and Dave Johnson’s War Wagon. There was good fellowship in the Oasis.

The Kechi parade was documented on Motor Patrol’s Facebook page. Cap-tain John Auch, Nobles Lynn Ungles, Rocky McWilliams, Mike Johnson, PP Ron Capps, Eric Shepler, Paul Morris, Mickey West, John Wykoff and Reiferd Acord enjoyed hauling the divan and the hospitality at Noble Ed Parker’s house after the parade.

Saturday night it was partying at Mid-

ian at the Peace Love Shriners party. Captain ‘Love’ John Auch,

Lynn Ungles, Rocky McWilliams, Norm Conley and their ladies Julie, Laurie, Bev and Debbie and Mickey

West celebrated in a hearty manner. Of the top six finalists 3 were Captain John Auch, Rocky McWilliams and peace and love Lady Bev McWilliams. She had flowers in her hair. Captain John was showing lots of skin. Noble Mickey West was working his tongue and did not know where to wear his flowers… Awesome party with lots of brownies… The Jalap-eno brownies were warm. Some had stuff in them… well not your regular brownie. Words to live by are peanut butter with chocolate works but chocolate with peanut butter is all chocolate taste. Not that that is bad. PP Mike Kelly arrived in white shirt and slacks. We hope he was putting some one away or he was a unique hippie costume.

We are doing the Motor Patrol ½ a cow, 1/2 a pig or a turkey in a box raffle again this year. There will be members with tickets on sale now from Motor Patrol Members. PP Vern Thornton would like visitors. Noble Charlie Kelley is looking great and getting around. Noble Archie Moon and all the other brothers are in our thoughts and prayers. Krazy Klowns DAVID “HAPPY” MOREYReporter

Our unit has been busy working for the good of the Shrine. We had appearances at the 85th Cessna An-niversary celebration on June 9th. A big thanks goes out to Klumzy, Hobo Joe, Skittles, Happy, Lady Dee and our newest clown Clip Clop for their participation. Anyone for Domino’s pizza?

We also had representation at the Lewis Day’s in Lewis Kansas, thanks to Klumzy, Murf, Happy and Lady Dee.

We hope that everyone is getting ready to attend Central States Shrine Clown Associa-tion in Cedar Rapids Iowa. We have several klowns who will be attending.

We would like to invite all Nobles and their

ladies to the Steak Feed to be held prior to the After CSSA party

on August 25, 2012 from 5:00 to 6:30pm. There will be a silent auction held from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in conjunction with

the Steak Feed. This is a fund raiser for the Krazy Klown and Kandyland Clowns units. Cost is $15.00 per person for a 10 oz sirloin steak, salad, potato, dessert, coffee, tea or water. Tickets are available from any Krazy Klown or Kandyland Clown member. We only have 100 tickets for sale. If you have questions, please contact Aaron Tabing, Boss Klown at 316-734-0876. Hope to see everyone there.

Class Directors NORRIS JOHNSONReporter

Class Director’s meeting was called by John Candy, on June 12, 2012. Main items of discussion were Fall Ceremonial and upcoming parades. Big thanks to everyone involved in Spring Ceremonial with the introduc-tion of 28 new Nobles. What a great start for the summer. If you see Philip and Diane

Creech wish them a Happy An-niversary, July 29th will be 48 years

of marriage, what a great couple! Hope everyone can get out and enjoy Shrine activities, cooler weather would make it

more enjoyable. That is all for now enjoy the summer and be safe.

Arami Court DANA RICHECKYReporter

Wow, are we heading for another scorcher and recording setting year! The heat has not slowed Arami Court down though. We finished our final Bingo session on June 26th with 165 players and two must go pots. This was a 3 ½-year fundraiser and one we will never forget. After seeing many of the players week after week, we have gotten attached and will certainly miss the interaction with them. A BIG Thank You to everyone who made this a successful experience.

As the date for the 2014 Grand Council Session hosted by Arami Court approaches, our time will now be spent planning and implementing everything for this event. As we have mentioned before, we are expecting 700 or more ladies and nobles to visit our fair city from May 9-16, 2014. The Formal Public opening is scheduled for May 13, 2014 with our own Lady Jan Hiebert GO, PHP presid-ing over the Session. This Grand Council Session will be the culmination of her year as Grand High Priestess after visiting all 72 Courts across the United States and Canada, and visit as many of the Shrine Hospitals she can during the year.

Our summer Ceremonial was held on July 7, 2012 at North Star

Lodge, initiating two Ladies. After the Ceremonial, we held a barbeque, as al-ways too much good food. In September,

we have been asked to prepare and serve a Mexican Dinner for Nomads on Friday night. If you have not been to one Nomads functions, you might consider joining us; they are fun gatherings. We are also serving breakfast on Saturday mornings for this group.

Krafty Krew and the Krazy Klowns will be helping the Hospice Care of Kansas on July 21 with their carnival to raise funds for Camp Healing Hearts. Bloomin’ Buddies will be donating a stepping-stone designed by Lady Dee Guthrie and Lady Kerri Turner to help raise money for their camp. All of Arami Courts units continue to meet during the sum-mer and their activities keep us all busy. The USO Tour is scheduled for stated meeting on August 15th, should be a great evening…..

Many of us will be with our Nobles at CSSA in August, hope to see you there too. Until next month, good health and a lot of laughter.
