2014/ th Grade Orchestra MMC Trip What is MMC? Michigan Music Conference The purpose of the Michigan Music Conference is to provide relevant professional development and vibrant musical experiences that support music education for educators and their students. 10 th Anniversary of the conference being held in Grand Rapids. Why we get to go. Each year, MSBOA features select ensembles from member schools to perform at the MMC. Last spring, I sent in the CD from our Festival performance along with an application. We were selected as 1 of 2 middle school groups to perform. This is NOT an every year opportunity. Goals of the Trip This trip will Allow us to bring our music and showcase our talent at the statewide level. We will perform for aprox people from around the state. Develop playing, goal setting and planning, time management, skills as we work toward achieving musical excellence. Students will all be expected to perform at their highest level. Develop the students interpersonal skills as they live together for an overnight trip. Enable students to grow individually in assuming responsibility for themselves. Orchestra T-Shirt (included) Chaperone Needs. This is a great opportunity!! Id like to have 10 chaperones. Background check Chaperone Occupancy Day 1 - Thursday* 11:00 AM- Gather and board busses 2:30pm- Grand Rapids Public Museum 4:00- Board Bus and transfer to DeVos Center to see where our performance will take place. 5:00 Board Bus 5:30 Dinner at a local restaurant 7:00 Board bus and head to hotel 8:00-9:00 Swim or hang out in commons area 9:00- All Students in their rooms *Trip itinerary subject to change Day 2--Friday 6:00 am Breakfast 7:00 check out 8:00 Warm up 9:00 MMC Performance at DeVos Center Time to check out the Conference Lunch in groups ($10.00 cash) 1:00- Return to auditorium to listen to orchestra concert 2:00 Board busses and return home 4:30 aprox. Arrival in NoviDinner Trip Behavior Our before the trip behavior contract will be in effect from the time of registration until we leave for the trip. Our On the Trip Behavior Contract will be in effect throughout the trip. Any major violations, as determined by the trip coordinator, will result in a call home and a parent will have to drive to Grand Rapids and pick up the student. Electronics Cell phones, iPods, etc. may only be used at specified times, such as: On the bus In the hotel room to call home As a camera Not When we are preparing for or during the performance! Exceptions will be made for other emergency situations. Bob Rogers Travel, Novi Schools, and the chaperones are NOT responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. Hotel Rooms Country Inn East by Carlson, Grand Rapids East Night Security Personnel Strict curfew/quiet time No outside phone line No movies No room service No wake up calls Hotel Etiquette Please discuss hotel etiquette with your children Do NOT leave valuables in the room. Quiet time/respect for other hotel guests. Security personnel on each floor. Leave the room the way you found it. Packing List Only 1 piece of luggage per student 1 carry-on (Bob Rogers Bag, Label It) Instrument (Labeled), Music Prepare for the weather Concert Dress for Friday, Orchestra Shirt for Thursday Spending money (not necessary) Swimsuit, towel, and plastic bag Students do not have to swim. Snacks for the bus ride? (you wont be on the bus very long ) Please no peanut products, cans, or glass bottles. Please avoid foods that are smelly or messy. Medication If you currently have meds at school a 2-day supply will be brought with us and kept by Mrs. Rais. If your child requires meds that are usually given at home you need to fill out a form and deliver the meds to school before Tuesday, 1/20. A medication form will be sent home the week before December break for families to fill out and return in January before the trip. More info to come. Medication All medical forms will be sent home in December After the Trip All meds will be returned to your child when we return to Novi Friday afternoon (unless they are usually kept at school). Emergency Contact Info Emergency Contact Information will be sent home with the Medical Packet in December. Safety Students will remain in chaperoned groups. Students will have also name badges when at the conference. Students will wear Novi Orchestra Shirt/ Concert Dress. Dangers of Traveling Please caution your children about the dangers of traveling: Must follow directions and stay with the group at all times. Dont wander away or talk with strangers. $ Spending Money $ What you send will likely be spent. All food will be paid for. There will not be much To spend $ on. Money for Snacks MMC Convention Booths (lots of free stuff) Souveniors Bus Chartered buses Licensed drivers Appropriate bus behavior School Work Students are responsible for missed work as determined by their teachers Arrangements are being made for any midterm exams. Please have kids in school on Monday!!!
