Lessons from Japan "Tsunami Tendenko : Escape The Tsunami !” A Video Animation "Tsunami Tendenko" is a teaching passed on in the northern areas of Japan, which had been hit by Tsunamis over and over in the past to minimize the effect of this hazard. It states the importance of "Making your OWN DECISIONS and running for your OWN LIVES" when a Tsunami hits, as doing otherwise will divide those who live and die. It is important to have the understanding that; When an Earthquake occurs → A Tsunami will come → Immediately escape to heights! To emphasize the importance of this lesson and to spread awareness, The Japan Meteorological Agency has created a promotional animation clip highlighting the survival experiences of the children during the 2011 East Japan Earthquake, called the "Miracle of Kamaishi". In case of an estimated Magnitude 9 class earthquake occurring in this area, a Tsunami which would reach South East Asia (including the Philippines) in 3-4 hours could be caused. In the worst case scenario, a Tsunami over 4m in height can hit shores of the Philippines and in Southern coasts of Mindanao, the estimated height of the Tsunami would be as high as 8m. *The probability of the Nankai Trough Earthquake to occur is estimated be 60-70% in the next 30 years and over 90% in the next 50 years (Government Earthquake Research Committee 2014.4.25) ====================================================================== Philippines is an Earthquake-Prone Nation, and this threat is REAL.
