President’s Message
We have had a busy couple of months promoting the NECPS. Last month, we promoted the NECPS in three states. We had booths at the RI Flower Show, the CT Flower Show and the Wentworth Greenhouses Exotic Plant show in NH. This month we have a large bay window display and 10’ x 10’ booth at the Boston Flower Show. We are getting tons of information out all over New England to help people grow our plants. I would like to thank all of the volunteers, as it would have been impossible without them. There is still time to help out at the Boston Show and our CP vendor, Native Exotics, has a booth there as well. We have just been invited to the UNH Open House in Durham, NH again at the end of this month. If you would like to volunteer for this, please let me know. It was a really fun event last year.

March Meeting: Bog Building and Sarracenia Dividing Session Saturday, March 14, 12:30 PM, Roger Williams Park Botanical Center
This month, our own John Twomey will host our annual bog building session. We will also do some Sarracenia divisions; if you have large rhizomes with multiple growth points, feel free to bring them for division!
We are also setting the groundwork for our annual show that will be at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA. Here is the link they have up: http://www.towerhillbg.org/index.php?cID=417 We have a great opportunity plan an amazing show that is different from the rest. I will be giving a cp lecture in the theater there on Sunday, April 26th to help promote our show. We need to decide on talks/presentations to add to their calendar. We also need more high resolution images of our plants. Please send me an e-‐mail ([email protected]) if you are interested in having images of your plants to help advertise the show. If your plants aren’t still buried under snow piles, you may be taking your plants out of dormancy. John T. will give a demonstration on bog building and taking Sarracenia (North American Pitcher Plant) cuttings and divisions. More details will be discussed at the meeting on Saturday at RWBC in RI. Do not forget to read our plant care sheets on www.necps.org if you are new to these plants or want to refresh your knowledge. I just bought an S. leucophllya “Hurricane Creek White” that I can’t wait to grow out this season. This plant was on my want list for some time. We still have an open month on our calendar for the month of November. If you have some ideas, please let me know. Please check our events calendar on our website for the upcoming meeting locations and events.
Recent Events of Note
• Both the Rhode Island and the Connecticut flower shows went well. The Providence booth attracted many visitors (see below), and at the Hartford show over 20 people signed up for more information. Thanks to all who contributed!
