TO: Hiring Manager FR: G Kurras / Principal & owner of Seafloor Investigations DT: 09‐Oct‐2015 RE: Letter of reference for Mr. Joshua Drake
Mr. Josh Drake recently completed a 2015 summer internship with Seafloor Investigations (SFI). We were very pleased with both his work and his ability to fit into the team & project. The project he participated in was the post‐cruise processing and analysis of geophysical data from a polymetallic nodule claim survey in the Clarion‐Clipperton Fracture Zone (CCZ). The main focus of Josh’s participation was the analysis of seabed photo‐imagery and combining his results into a multi‐data synthesis. During the final stages of this project Josh spent two weeks on‐site at our office working as part of a small team analyzing the data and producing the final report.
This effort was an intense time exposing Josh to many different aspects of geophysical data and working closely as part of a small focused team. He showed a good level of maturity, adapted quickly to a new & novel environment and maintained positive working relationships with everyone. He participated enthusiastically as a team member seeking ways to complement the skills and contributions of others on the team and was effective at pursuing established goals with minimal direct supervision. Participating in a team composed of experts, Josh was exposed to many different skill sets (ArcGIS, geophysics, geology, image analysis & data synthesis) and repeatedly demonstrated a commitment to self‐improvement and willingness to seek coaching as appropriate from others on the team.
In summary; Josh Drake proved to be a valuable, hard‐working member of the team who contributed significantly to the overall project. As a summer intern he exceeded our expectations and proved his worth & adaptability on multiple occasions. He has the mind, work‐ethic and the willingness to learn new skills that should prove valuable to any company bringing on a new‐hire from the university scene.
