CAPTAIN’S COMMENTS

How good it is to be back in South after investing half of my retirement fund in America. Wow—I never thought it would be that expensive! Nevertheless as they say, debit pocket and credit experience. What a pleasure it was to return home to a well-orchestrated Quadrangular weekend with Northerns, Easterns and Gauteng. Fellow Captains it was a pleasure hosting you and your teams for the weekend and even more gratifying winning the

coveted Ken Blake trophy, Well done Lowveld.

Billy Bekker, Captain of Northerns said while we were having the photo taken with the trophy that it was the wrong trophy! How would he know what it looks like when Northerns have never won it! Sorry Groote keep

trying!

I must again express our sincere gratitude to Pedro Dias from S.A. Breweries for their wonderful support with bitterly cold castle lights on the golf course both Saturday and Sunday. As always pretty girls and ice cold beers

never go unnoticed.

We wish the Lowveld contingent heading of to Swaziland Nationals an enjoyable couple of days with good golf and camaraderie and are sure as always, the Swazis will make it really memorable. Good Luck Theo and

committee on a successful tournament, we wish you well!

Our Lowveld committee will also be representing the club at Western Province 50th anniversary in Milnerton in November and trust this too will be most enjoyable. For our newer members who may not be familiar with our clubs history , Lowveld will be having its 20th year anniversary next year scheduled for November and it is a good time to put your hands up to assist in whatever way you can. Neil Crighton has agreed to coordinate this special event and will require all our support. Thank you Neil. This will be followed by the Nomads National Tournament also hosted by Lowveld in March 2017.This is a huge Nomadic Event and Andrew Bullen our convener is going to need lots of assistance so please come forward and offer your help, no matter how big or small you will enjoy the

experience.

Our next game is at Sabie Golf Club on the 15th November and although only a 9-hole course, let’s support them

and fill the field.

I am also appealing to each Member that as we draw close to Christmas let us not forget how many poor

children do not know how special Christmas is and nothing would be more fitting than for

us all to bring a gift valued at R50.00 - wrapped and marked “BOY” or “GIRL”

to pass on to Child Welfare for distribution to make some child smile.

In conclusion we wish Gary Angelos, John Luyt, Dave Croxon,

John Stephen, Ian Garden and Mike Field all a speedy recovery

and look forward to your return - get well soon Chaps.

And the winners are Lowveld ! Well done to all who participated and supported the Quadrangular tournament held last month. I could see on Friday at the Jock already that Lowveld were taking it seriously with some serious drinking to warm up with. It obviously worked because we came out on top so now we know the winning formula…..alcohol ! Who would have

guessed.

On Sunday at White River I was off last so was allocated starting-duties. I took my clubs down to the tee to wait for the first 4-balls but when I opened my bag my driver’s head fell down like an 80 year-old without Viagra! I must have broken it putting it into my car on Saturday ! Thank you Charles Glass—it was an expensive round of golf. Being the starter is no easy job - golfers arrive late and then get very upset when you chase them on. You don’t see that kind of disrespect being

shown to the starter at the Open…..just saying chaps!

Herman Griesel did not disappoint and he once again forgot his shoes. My suggestion to him is to buy some black golf shoes so they don’t stick out like a pair of dogs-you-know-what’s and cut down on the Saturday night Brandy and coke. At least

he didn’t lose his teeth this month so we are making progress.

I hope the crew that had their game at Leopard creek enjoyed themselves but without discussing it with them I’m guessing Hoggy had a ball and Luigi not so much - judging by the scores. Bruce “Chuck” Norris has now retired and by all accounts he was going to find a hobby which was building cars. I think he has given that a miss and he is on the driving range all

day…….he has been playing out of his skin. Well done Bruce long may it continue.

Finally a few scenarios that all finish with the caption “and that’s how the fight started”…

I took my wife to a restaurant and for some reason the waiter took my order first. I ordered a rump and asked for it rare.

He then asked me if I was not worried about Mad Cow….. to which I replied “No, she can order her own food.”

My wife asked me for something shiny that goes from 0-to 130 in 3 seconds so I bought her a scale.

My wife was looking in the mirror and she said “I feel fat and ugly - pay me a compliment” so I said “Well, there is clearly

nothing wrong with your eyesight!”
