June 10, 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians: Re: School Calendar Update

It has come to my attention that further changes to the 2015-16 local school calendar will be made. The changes surround the school and district-based professional development days.

The changes are as follows:

Dates for deletion (these dates will be replaced with instructional days) o Monday, November 23, 2015 (Secondary Pro D Day) o Tuesday, February 9, 2016 (District Pro D Day) o Wednesday, June 29, 2016 (Elementary Pro D Day)

New dates(non-instructional days) o Monday, February 22, 2016 (District Pro D Day) o Tuesday, February 23, 2016 (School-based Pro D Day)

It is important to note that the school-based calendar is an extensive process that involves representatives from the Board of Education, district and school administration, Nanaimo District Teachers Association (NDTA), Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC). We must also consider contractual obligations with our stakeholder groups. In this case, we have heard from the NDTA and agreed with their recommendations. Moving forward, these changes will continue to position the district to meet the Ministry of Educations hours of instruction and provide consistency across the entire district.
