HISTORY AND COMPETITIONFormula SAE is a division of SAE International Collegiate Design Series. The objective is to design, build, and accomplish business and engineering tasks centered around the creation of a one-person open-wheeled racecar. Teams must keep in mind the wants and needs of the amateur auto-cross racer. Formula SAE holds eight events worldwide in locations including Australia, Michigan, Canada and our hometown of Lincoln, NE. The competition has numerous events, both static and dynamic, which measure the performance of the car and team. The competition gives students a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge into real-world scenarios. For more information on the competitions, please visit the Formula SAE website:

Greetings from Formula SAE and Husker Motorsports. The 2015-2016 season is our fifth year competing in this world-wide design series, and we are returning with enthusiasm to build off our previous success and knowledge. We are very grateful for your support, and hope you will join us on our road to victory.

Husker Motorsports began in 2011 with only 6 founding members, including five engineering students and one faculty. Since then, we have grown to a team of over

60 students from a wide variety of studies. There are few clubs like us on campus that offer the kind of practical experience, both technical and in business, that

students obtain as members of Husker Motorsports. We are very proud of the hard work and countless hours our members put in each year to fully design and build a working race car. As students, this is no small feat.

The 2014-2015 season showed much improvement and provided new adventures for Husker

Motorsports, such as our first competition away at Formula North

in Barrie, Ontario Canada. With Husker 04 named Madison, we chose to

continue with a similar design as the previous vehicle, and improve on its weaknesses. Our decision paid off and Madison proved to be a faster, more reliable automobile than any we have built previously, enabling us to finish our first endurance race ever this season.

We learned much from the Husker 04 and are confident we can take this knowledge over to our new car, Husker 05. Not wasting any time, we began work immediately after our home competition in Lincoln, NE this past summer. Our goal this year is to improve our team structure and with that maintain more efficient design and build strategies, leading to a better performing car. Ultimately, we are shooting to place among the top 20 teams at FSAE Lincoln next year. However, we can only achieve this with your generous support.

Thank you for taking time to consider sponsoring Husker Motorsports in our endeavors. We look forward to working with you.

Passion. Pride. Performance. Husker Motorsports.

WE LEARNED MUCH FROM THE HUSKER 04 AND ARE CONFIDENT WE CAN TAKE THIS KNOWLEDGE OVER TO OUR NEW CAR, HUSKER 05.

STATIC EVENT

Presentation EventThis event tests the team’s ability to develop a business case convincing executives of a corporation that the team’s design meets the needs of an amateur autocross racer. The presentation must prove that the team’s design can be profitablymanufactured and marketed.

Engineering Design(150 Points)Team members explain and prove engineering principles as they relate to the design and construction of the car.

Cost and Manufacturing(100 Points)The team submits a report of total costs of the car. Judges evaluate cost aspects of the team’s design, manufacturing, and assembly of the car.

DYNAMIC EVENTS

Acceleration (75 Points)This event tests the car’s power train and transmission on a 250-ft straight-line track. The car’s acceleration and speed in four trials are recorded and the best time scored.

Skid Pad(50 Points)This event tests the car’s ability to respond to lateral g-forces. The driver tests the car’s handling ability by navigating two adjacent 15-meter circles.

Autocross (150 Points)The autocross event measures the vehicle’s acceleration, handling and braking on a tight cone course. Two team drivers must navigate the cones successfully and quickly in order to post competitive times.

Endurance & Fuel Economy(400 Points)This event is a 22-kilometer race challenging both car and driver. Two drivers participate for each team, each completing half of the race. The event also measures fuel economy upon completion.

Husker Motorsports attended two competitions this season,

Formula West in our home town of Lincoln, NE as well as our 1st

competition on the road as well as internationally in Barrie,

Ontario Canada. The Canadian competition was prior to the

one in Lincoln, and we believe attending it gave us the

experience to perform better at Formula West than our previous

year by 6 positions. We are especially proud to have

completed our 1st endurance race ever at Formula North in

Canada. Our results at both competitions are:

Learning from both our

previous successes and

challenges from last year, the

team has identified several

specific goals for the 2016

season. Three ideals drive our

continued design: reliability,

simplicity, and cost-

effectiveness. By adhering to

these tenets, we believe that

we can continue to grow in our

success as a race team.
