  • Dear sister and brothers in Christ,

It's that time of year again!

The leaves will soon be changing color, the children are going back to school and the program year will be getting underway.

There are so many ways that you can be involved at PCC! You can teach Sunday School (if you are safe church trained!). We currently have several open slots on our Boards and Committees. There are countless ways to be involved in the life of our community.

When we think of Stewardship, we often think of pledges in the form of money. However, Stewardship also refers to giving of our time and our talent.

So, when in doubt, give it a try! Be in touch with myself or someone from the Nominating Committee on where you can be involved at PCC this year.

    Blessings,

    Rev. Kristen

Church World Service School Kits Last year we were able to send 135 school kits to children in the U,S. and around the world. We would love to beat that record this year. Assembling the kits is fun and not too expensive this time of year with all the back-to-school sales. If you put one together last year, can you do two this year? If everyone adds one more school kit to the number they did last year I bet we can make 150 this year! To assemble a school kit you will need; * One pair of metal scissors with rounded tips * Three 70-count spiral notebooks or notebooks totaling 210 pages (not loose leaf pa-per) * One 30 centimeter ruler (12 inches) * One hand-held pencil sharpener * One large eraser * Six new pencils with erasers * One box of 24 crayons (only 24) $2 for shipping cost It is important to follow the list carefully and not add extra items. All of these can be put into the school bag (provided by us) and left in the basket in the Narthex. Again thank you to our Congregation for making this a success.

    PCC Spiritual Retreat

The Prospect Congregational Church, UCC will be sponsoring an adult retreat, hosted by David Bell and Erik Soderberg, at Silver Lake from Friday, 10/30 until Sunday, 11/01.

The purpose of the retreat is to strengthen the bonds of our fellow PCC members, and to share positive and inspirational stories about our church and its members, as well as personal memories our family and friends. Games and activities, as well as personal reflection and free time are also included in the weekend agenda.

The retreat will conclude following Worship Service that will be led by Dave in the Lodge where we will be staying at. The Service will be based on All Saints Day and will include Commun-ion.

The cost for the weekend event is $115 per person, with 50% of the cost being requested upon registration ($60). The remaining balance will be due the week before departure ($55). The event is a “first come, first serve” basis, with a minimum amount of 15 adults, and a maximum capacity of about 30.

Anyone who may be interested in participating for just the day on Saturday are also invited, with cost details to follow, depending on length of stay. The registration needs to go out as soon as possible in order to book a lodge. Please send in your deposit before September 10th, as time is of the essence. Elevator Finances - Treasurer, Sheryl F Mann

The elevator should be completed in September. The purpose of this monthly update is to inform the congregation on the financial status of paying for the elevator. The estimated cost for the elevator is $235,849.00; architect - $15,000, elevator $93,579.00, general contractor - $127,270. The estimated balance owed $134,139.72. We applied for a loan and have been approved from Ion Bank using the Morse account as collateral. When the elevator is completed we will owe the balance due. We will have to borrow approximately $125,000.00. The monthly loan payments will be approximately $980.00 for principal and interest. The elevator's yearly maintenance contract will be approximately $750 a year. The remainder of the elevator pledges are not due until the end of December. However, if we receive the outstanding pledges earlier then we will borrow less. If you have not made a pledge and would like to make a donation, please make the check to the church noting that it's for the elevator. Coming soon, the Elevator Fundraising Loan Committee.

Pen/Stylus Fundraiser We have ordered pens that also act as a stylus that you can use on all your tablets and phones. We have 6 colors and we are asking for a donation of $10 each or if you donate $35 you will receive 4 pens/stylus. If you purchase a plain stylus at a local office supply store they run from $12 and up. I will also be packaging them in 10's for members to take and sell. The pens are engraved with church information so people will remember where to go if they want another. This fundraiser could net the church as much as $4,500. They make great gifts for family and friends. More information is available out on the website. I am looking for church members to take small bags of 10 pens to sell to friends and family. I cannot do this alone! I have pens every Sunday at church. Thank you! Sandi Stewart
