You have made the right decision to inquire about living on campus at Nova

Southeastern University—Home of the Sharks! You are, perhaps, considering

your options when it comes to choosing a college, but most importantly, you

are probably wondering why you should live on campus. Living on campus

means making a lifelong friendship with your roommate, it means having

many resources available to you through housing, and it means having a place

to explore who you are. Best of all, living on campus means you are represented

by the Residential Student Association. We support, recognize, create an

identity for, and involve, residential students throughout their time on campus.

When you get to campus, keep an eye out for us at barbeques, hall parties,

or bowling. Your college experience will be the best years of your life. Don’t leave

NSU with any regrets. When you reflect upon your college experience later in life,

your roommates, your involvement, and your professors will have had the most

influence on your potential. College can be amazing! So have fun, hang out with

your friends, go to an athletic event, get involved in something you like, and meet

people. Thank you for considering Nova Southeastern University. We hope you will

make the best choice and continue with the legacy we pass on to every new student.

We are looking forward to seeing you!

—The Residential Student Association

What type of furniture is provided by the school?Rooms in Leo Goodwin Sr. Residence Hall are furnished with two dressers, closets, twin beds, desks, and chairs. Rooms in The Commons are furnished with a medium-lofted bed; a three-drawer dresser; a desk; and a chair for each resident. Rooms in Founders, Farquhar, Vettel, Cultural Living Center, and Rolling Hills Residence Halls are furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, chair, two-person sofa, refrigerator, and stove. All residence halls are equipped with extra-long twin mattresses.

Can residents have a car on campus, even during their freshman year?Yes, but parking spaces are limited in the residential community. Residents are only allowed to park in the residential community and must walk or take the shuttle to and from class. Rolling Hills graduate residents can park in non-gated NSU lots after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and all day on the weekends. Residents must complete their parking decal application form and return the completed form to the One-Stop Shop at the Horvitz Administration Building within two weeks of moving into the residence halls. Residents who do not have a residential parking decal will be ticketed. All residents are required to scan their NSU ID card to enter the residential lots.

Does the school provide room refrigerator rental for students? No. Residents who reside in Leo Goodwin Sr. Residence Hall and The Commons are allowed to bring their own 2.0–4.0 cubic-foot refrigerators. All other halls are equipped with full-size refrigerators.

Can residents bring fish tanks to their rooms?Yes. The volume limit is a 10-gallon tank per roommate. NO other pets are allowed in the residence halls.

What kind of telephone service is available?Nova Southeastern University provides free local telephone service, and long distance service is provided at a discounted rate by ECCI-NetWolves.

Where can residents do laundry? All of the residence halls are equipped with washers and dryers. Laundry facility use is FREE for all residents, and money is not needed to do laundry in the residence halls. All laundry rooms and machines can be monitored online at www.laundryview.com.

Where do residents receive mail? Each resident is assigned a mailbox. Mail is delivered to student mailboxes Monday through Friday. If you receive an express/overnight package or special delivery, a notification slip will be placed in your mailbox. Residents living in Leo Goodwin Sr., Founders, Farquhar, Vettel, and Cultural Living Center halls will receive their mail in the Leo Goodwin Sr. Residence Hall mailroom. Residents living in The Commons and Rolling Hills Residence Halls will receive their mail in the mailroom of their hall.

Are residents allowed to paint their rooms?Students are not allowed to paint their rooms; but, they are allowed to decorate their rooms with posters, photographs, and anything else that will make the rooms feel like home.

Are the belongings of residents insured by the university? The university is not responsible for the loss of or damage to the personal belongings of residents. It is strongly suggested that residents purchase renter’s insurance or check to see if coverage is included in a parent’s homeowner’s policy.

What can be done if the resident is unhappy with her/his room assignment and/or roommate? The first step for each resident is to speak with her/his resident assistant (RA) about her/his concerns. The RA will assist in a mediation process and help the residents communicate with one another. If problems persist after the resident has spoken with the RA and a member of Mediation Services, the resident may speak to the area director about a room change. This is considered only a last resort and may not always be possible.

May the resident stay in her/his residence hall during vacations and breaks? Yes, we welcome students remaining on campus, even during the summer

What types of safety and security measures are provided for residents on campus? The Office of Public Safety maintains continuous service on campus and can be reached 24 hours a day. All residence halls are monitored by cameras linked to the Public Safety Office. The Office of Residential Life and Housing staff members are trained to deal with all emergency situations.

May residents have guests in their rooms, and can they stay overnight?Guests may visit residents’ rooms only by invitation, and the resident shall be responsible for the guests at all times. Please refer to the Residential Living Guide for more information on the overnight- guest policy.

May residents have alcohol in their rooms?Residents are expected to abide by all Florida state laws and statutes regarding the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Residents of legal drinking age (21) are permitted to have alcoholic beverages within the confines of their room for personal consumption. Please refer to the Residential Living Guide for more information on the alcohol policy in the residence halls.
