Winter 2015 Congratulations to members of the St. Rose of Lima community who where recently honored at the our Annual Beef and Beer. We truly appreciate their dedication and value the impact that they have made on their communities. We thank everyone who helped make this a great night for our recipients and their families. St. Rose of Lima 2015 Achievement Award Recipients are: Community Service: Pat Del Signore Pat has worked tirelessly throughout the community volunteering his time and talents, to organizations such as the YMCA, Rotary and Lions Clubs, Sons of Italy, and countless others. Here at St Rose, Pat has served as lector since 1970 and is a past Parish Council President. Recently honored by the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia “Person of the Year”,Pat’s strong faith has guided his personal and professional career. Sports Education: Terry Durkin Teaching Catholic Education for 38 years, twenty-three of which here at St. Rose,Terry has been committed to our children for decades. A stand-out at Gloucester Catholic High School for basketball, and many active years refereeing,Terry has received numerous honors such as induction into Camden County Sports Hall of Fame, and South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame. As the Executive Director of West Chapter 5 Officials and President of the Albert J. Carino Girls Basketball Club,Terry continues to provide leadership, compassion, and knowledge to students and players alike. Family Service: Knoll Family The Knoll family from Audubon is well known and respected throughout the area for their athletic ability on the basketball court. Eleven siblings, nine of which went to St Rose in the '60's, 70's and 80's, as well as their children, continue to flourish in their athletic and academic achievements. St. Rose of Lima 2015 Achievement Award

Recipients are:

Community Service: Pat Del Signore Pat has worked

'70's, committing their time and knowledge of the game to the

next generation of girls.Their passion and service throughout the

years is admirable.

Art Appreciation: Dave McShane Dave graduated from

St. Rose in 1980 and Paul VI High School in 1984. A La Salle

University graduate in biology/pre-med, Dave passion for the arts

led him to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the City

of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, where Dave has completed

over 100 community-based murals, and has become a leader in

his field with his work being recognized internationally. Dave

continually raises funds for community projects and youth

education programs. This spring, the center city skyline of

Philadelphia is about to get a major league makeover as Dave

has joined forces with the Philadelphia Phillies creating an 8 story

mural celebrating the history of the team.

Athletic Achievement/Coaching: Joe Neal Joe was

inducted into Camden County Sports Hall of Fame for his athletic

achievements as a two sport star athlete and 1st team All South

Jersey in both basketball and baseball at Audubon High School.

Joe then went on to Division 1 Wake Forest and St Joe’s to

continue his playing career, followed by playing professionally for

the minor league Pittsburgh Pirates. Joe has been an assistant

coach here at St Rose for 23 years now, first with late Timmy

Lenahan and now present coach Jamie DeCastro.

A True Champion: David Praiss A parishioner here at St

Rose his entire life, David Praiss is a Special Olympic Gold Medal

Champion machine. In 2014, David accomplished the nearly

impossible feet of winning 9 Gold Metals in the Special Olympics

competition. Competing since the age of eight, David's Gold

Metals were achieved in competitions not only in New Jersey, but

also nationally. Truly dedicated and passionate, David also

volunteers his time throughout the community with multiple

organizations; staying active to be his best, just as true

champions do.

Introducing Rosebud Academy Preschool

St. Rose of Lima School is excited to announce the opening of Rosebud Academy

Preschool in September 2015. The preschool will offer a variety of half and full-

day programs for children ages 3-5 years. The preschool has been in the

planning for several years and we are happy to be able to offer our community an

excellent choice in education for our younger children. The preschool will be

located at our satellite building on 102 W. Gloucester Pike, Barrington. Our

preschool director, Mrs. Maureen Mattson, has been busy preparing the

classrooms and building a great environment for the program. An Open House

will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The Open

House will give you the opportunity to see the classrooms, meet our director and

our school principal, Ms. Denise Winterberger. For additional information, please

Class of ‘49 celebrates their65th Reunion with a visit toSt. Rose

This past September, alumni from the Class of 1949 held their 65th

reunion at the Kove Restaurant. Before their reunion, the attendees paid a

visit to St. Rose and took a tour of their old stomping grounds. The

kindergarten class presented the alumni with spiritual bouquets and sang

a few of their favorite songs. It was a great day seeing our kindergartners

and the Class of ‘49 come together for this special reunion!

Class of ‘48 ReunionMembers of the Class of ‘48 recently gathered for a high school reunion but

also took time to reminisce about their years at St. Rose. They were

celebrating their 62nd high school reunion from Camden Catholic. Joseph

Devine ‘48 reported that a great time was had by all and they were joined

by a few alums that had not been able to make it to recent reunions. John

Bloxsom ‘48 was able to provide photos of the St. Rose alumni that

attended the reunion.

Annual Laps for LearningOur 10th Annual Laps for Learning event will be held on May 21, 2015. The

Laps for Learning donations benefit our technology lab and school

programs. We are hoping to make this our best year yet! Please contact

Alumni NewsDr. Robert Fisicaro ‘90 Bob Fisicaro was recently inducted into the

Albert J. Carino Basketball Hall of Fame for 2015. He was honored at the

induction ceremony on Feb. 15, 2015. Currently he is Superintendent of

Mantua Township Public Schools and lives in Pitman with his wife, Jen

and 2 children.

Joe Neal, Assistant Boy’s Basketball Coach, was inducted into the

Camden County Sports Hall of Fame. Joe has been an assistant coach

with the St. Rose Boy’s Basketball program for 23 years. He was honored

at the induction ceremony on Oct. 30, 2014.

Sherri Cerrito ‘10 received Principal Honors at Rowan University this

past fall semester with a 4.0 GPA. Sherri is currently participating as a

character/performer in the Disney World College Program until August.

Sherri was in all the musicals during her years at St. Rose and also during

her 4 years attending Camden Catholic. She most recently played Belle in

Beauty and the Beast at Camden Catholic.

Nicole Liebeknecht ‘09 and Mariah Thomas ‘09, both sophomores

at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA, were selected to participate in the

Mercy Leadership Program at Misericordia. This past fall they completed

the nine week leadership training program for service oriented programs.

Nicole is a Nursing major and Mariah is an Occupational Therapy major.

Catholic Schools Week2015

Catholic Schools Week is always a fun week for our

students as we celebrate what makes St. Rose of Lima

School and Catholic education so special. Our students and

faculty enjoyed another great Catholic Schools Week this year with

many activities, including a student-teacher volleyball game, Falcon

day, service day, ice cream social, book fair (and a snow day!) and the

week was capped off with a family pasta dinner. Thank you to

everyone for a great week!

Library NewsOur school librarian, Ms. Peg Crowell, was asked to speak at a convention

this past fall regarding the Scholastic BookTalk program that she

implemented for our students last year. Ms. Crowell spoke about how the

program was created, the methods used and the success she has had with the

St. Rose students that participated in the program. This has been a great

program for our students as they had the opportunity to read and discuss

books and then present their reviews on video for others to view online.

Award WinnersSeventh grade student, Michelle Quinn was awarded First Place for our

district in the VFW of New Jersey Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. Michelle

was one of twenty-one student winners from New Jersey.

Eighth grader, Robert Schuhl received the first place award in the Annual

Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Michelle and Robert!

This past Christmas, our National Junior Honor Society and Student

Council collected over 100 jeans and blankets for donations to St. Paul’s

in Camden. They also collected $250 to purchase turkeys for those in

need.

Congratulations to our band director, Mr. John Spangenburg, and

members of the St. Rose band. Every year students from St. Rose band

audition to be a part of the Philadelphia Area Honors Band that perform

with students from the Tri-State area. Each year we have several

members of our band selected to perform. This year the following

students have been selected: Olivia Ayscue - First Chair Saxophone,

Katie Donnelly - First Chair Flute, Mary Myslinski - Flute, Audrey

Sepanic - Flute, Matthew Slattery - Clarinet. The 2015 Concert will be

on Saturday, March 28, 2015, 3:00 pm at St. Mary's Chapel, Villanova

University, Villanova, PA. Congratulations to all!

Our St. Rose of Lima Drama Club will be

performing the musical, Willie Wonka, May

7, 8, & 9, 2015 in our school gym. This

promises to be an amazing performance by

our students, under the direction of Mia Reich.

Seventh grade student, Jacob Garcia, recently received first place

honors in the Early Advanced category for his performance in a piano

technique competition. Jacob continues to excel in his piano

performances and hopes to be competing at the college level by high

school.

Travelling across the USAOur third grade students have been traveling around the United States this

year through postcards. Mrs. Pitts’ students wrote postcards to students

in schools from each of the 50 United States and they have been rewarded

with a postcard in return from each of those states. They continue to

receive them and are learning interesting facts about each of the states.

A Message From the Advancement OfficeDear St. Rose of Lima Friends:

The 2014-15 St. Rose of Lima School Annual Fund has raised $43,000 to

date. We need your help to reach our goal this year of $60,000. This is an

important fundraiser for our school and the funds go directly to support our

students. The Annual Fund supports every aspect of St. Rose – from

technology and school programs to building improvements and tuition

assistance and scholarships.

Our students continue to excel in all areas as seen in their many

accomplishments. We strive each day to make them well-rounded citizens

that will make a difference today and in their future. Our tradition is able

to flourish with the generosity of alumni, parents and friends to St. Rose of

Lima School Annual Fund. We know offer online donations on our website,
