We are all asked to be leaders – in our practices, our families and the organizations to which we belong. The ACP’s Leadership Academy will help you develop your leadership skills as you develop a vision for your practice and your life, acquire strong communication skills and articulate this vision in a way that will inspire others.

It Fits Into Your ScheduleThe year-long program has been designed to fit into your busy

schedule by employing a 70-20-10 model, which works in the

following way: 70 percent of learning is through practice and on-

the-job experiences; 20 percent is through exposure to coaching,

feedback, and networking; and 10 percent is through formal

education-based learning interventions.

Participants should expect to spend 5-8 hours per week working on

their project, reading & assignments and meeting with their mentor.

Expand Core SkillsLeadership Academy participants will build on a wide range of skills

that affect all aspects of daily life, including:

• Leadership styles and how you can make yours work for you

• Clarifying your vision for practical goal setting

• Effectively communicating, both personally and professionally

• Intelligent negotiating

• Motivating and inspiring your team

• Project creation and execution

Impact Our SpecialtyParticipants will work on an independent project to be completed

over the course of the year. The project can be developed by the

participant, or chosen from a list of possible topics which include:

public and physician awareness of phlebology, recruitment, and

research papers.

Below are a few examples of the projects from the latest

Leadership Academy:

• Grassroots campaign to air the ACP produced PBS show Vein Health: Discoveries, New Technologies & Breakthroughs

• Case of the month distributed to ACP membership

• Vein Care Equals Phlebology logo for public awareness

• Veincast - a monthly podcast for clinicians on subjects and issues of interest to phlebologists

• PowerPoint presentations to educate physicians in specific targeted specialties

The ACP Leadership Academy will arm you with the skills needed to impact your practice, your family and your specialty.

Challenge & SupportMitch Simon, JD, MBA has been in the business of developing

leaders for the past twenty-three years. Formerly Director of Strategic

Planning and Strategic Alliances at Nokia, Mitch founded the Simon

Leadership Alliance in 2002. Mitch believes that actions are often

limited by one’s beliefs. To achieve new goals, one must investigate

those beliefs and move past them.

Through the ACP Leadership Academy, Mitch will challenge you to

explore your assumptions and strengthen your core principles.

In addition to working with Mitch, participants will be paired with an

ACP mentor, who will serve as a resource and source of support

throughout the process.

Minimal InvestmentThe registration cost is a modest $3,500 for the full year-long

program. $500 will be refunded upon completion of the program

and your project. Travel and lodging expenses for the two retreats will

be borne by each participant.

The ACP was very careful to minimize the costs to participants,

making for significant savings compared with comparable programs.

Current participants agree that the return on their investment, in the

form of a more robust professional and happier personal life, has

been substantial.
