International Office: 2015 Annual Delegation Report

In 2015, ECU International Office hosted 42 formal International delegation visits, representing a total

of 68 institutions and 225 visitors. The visits included 16 partner institutions and seven visits from

diplomatic representatives of foreign countries. The International Office also introduced the

International Lunchtime Seminar Series and four events were held.

- approved delegation visit requests and organised visa invitation letters, where applicable

- prepared agendas and supported schools/faculties in organising the logistics for the visits

- purchased and prepared all gifts for visitors

- prepared meeting notes and circulated to attendees

- prepared and sent Thank You letters to visiting delegates

- followed-up with schools and partners on relevant action items

Tokyo City University (TCU) In 2015, ECU and TCU signed an Agreement for a University Certificate program that enables TCU students to complete a study abroad semester at ECU. The students will follow a specially-designed one-semester program that will be credited to their Japanese award.

ECU hosted four delegation visits from TCU in preparation for the program commencement. In July, a delegation led by TCU President Dr Chitoshi Miki, was welcomed to ECU by ECU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Steve Chapman and the project team. During the visit, the Consul-General of Japan in Perth, Mr Masanobu Yoshii, hold a Reception at his residency to announce the start of the program.

Association of Indonesian Private Higher Education Institutions (APTISI)

A large delegation from APTISI, representing 30 Indonesian private higher education institutions visited ECU in September to discuss collaboration opportunities. The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Simon Ridings, Deputy Vice-Chancellor International. During the visit, a Letter of Intent fostering future cooperation was signed between APTISI and ECU.

Australia Indonesia University Executives Knowledge Sharing Project 2014-2015

International Office: 2015 Annual Delegation Report

In 2015, the International Office introduced the “International Lunchtime Seminar Series” to facilitate communications between international stakeholders within ECU. Based on the schools’ preferences, senior consular representatives from different countries were invited to give a presentation on the education environment and current opportunities over a networking lunch. The 2015 Series included guest speakers from Jordan, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as a representative from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to discuss the Implications of the new Simplified Student Visa Framework. These seminars were attended by more than 75 staff representing ECU’s schools and relevant service centres.

International delegation visits in 2015 saw ECU strengthen academic partnerships through the development and signing of formal agreements, including Memorandum of Understanding, Study Tour Agreements, Advanced Standing, Student Exchange and Study Abroad and an Agreement for University Certificate.

In addition to the formal agreements, outcomes from 2015 also included strengthened relationship with high level diplomatic representatives of countries from Asia, the Middle East and Europe, as well as increased opportunities in a wide range of activities, such as:

overseas students to undertake inbound mobility experience to ECU

increased outbound mobility opportunities for ECU students

a greater flow of inbound international students from partner institutions

increased and strengthened research opportunities between ECU and partner institutions

visiting research fellows from partner institutions at ECU

200+ students from Tokyo City University to improve their English and academic skills and to experience ECU and Australia. The program is supported by ECU students who get involved as “buddies” to the TCU students.
