Celebrating our bicentenary together

In 2015 Bathurst celebrates 200 years since it was proclaimed a town by Governor Lachlan Macquarie, who raised the Union Jack on the banks of the Macquarie River, on 7th May 1815. This proclamation makes Bathurst Australia’s oldest inland colonial settlement. The feature week of celebrations from May 2-10 in Bathurst200 Heritage Week is the focus of the annual celebrations with a huge program of events, tours and exhibitions highlighting our unique heritage including the Bicentenary Illumination and Street Festival.

Join us as we celebrate our community spirit in a myriad of exciting ways; reflecting on our history and shining a light on the wonderful fabric of Bathurst’s community life.

With a calendar of events growing every day visit bathurst200.com.au to keep up to date .

in 2015 there is much that we have to celebrate and the autumn Colours Program showcases the incredible diversity of events, activities and attractions of the Bathurst region when it is at its most beautiful.

Bathurst is a great place to visit all year round but in autumn there is a special air about the region as the yellow, red and orange leaves turn on their spectacular colour providing a beautiful backdrop to our stunning heritage city and villages.

While the autumn Colours program runs from march to end of may the highlight of the events will be the Bathurst200 heritage Week may 2-10 which is a feature week of celebrations focused around the 200th anniversary of the Proclamation of Bathurst by Governor Lachlan macquarie as australia’s first inland settlement.

the Bathurst200 heritage Week includes outdoor art installations, fashion exhibitions, colonial fair and a spectacular illumination and street festival on saturday 9 may. the presentation of the inaugural Bathurst macquarie heritage medal during this week will focus national attention on our city’s role in promoting natural, built, cultural and australia’s social heritage.

the diversity of what we offer as a visitor experience in the Bathurst region provides something for everyone whether you are into food and wine, outdoor adventures, history and heritage or our unique motor racing heritage, there is an event or activity to surprise you.

i welcome visitors to Bathurst during this magical season and look forward to sharing in some of the hundreds of events on offer with our community and visiting friends alike.

You can keep up to date with all our bicentenary events and celebration on the bathurst200.com.au website or follow us on facebook and instagram to be sure you don’t miss out on any of this very special year.
