Team Trailer
Buzz Robotics will be traveling in style
from now on! The team bought a trailer
and Sue Reis helped design the graphics
that were printed by Go Graphics in East
Longmeadow.
We’re looking forward to using this fully
equipped trailer this season to travel to
our district events and Championship
event!

F IR ST T e am 175 Pre Season Experiences
Isn’t As Easy As it Seems
By: Mia DiBattista—EFHS Sophomore
On one of our Wednesday pre-season meetings, we set up a mock practice
field in our cafeteria. It was a large, heavy carpet that spanned the length of the
floor. On the field, we drove last year’s robot and tested it for speed with different
weights. We did this to see how we could better this year’s robot. We marked the
carpet with tape to see where we should start and stop driving the robot at various
times. There were timers on each side of the field (three on each side) and we
took the average of all our times, to record. When Katrina drove the robot it swerved into me on one of
her last runs and it just goes to show that driving the robot isn’t as easy as it may seem! Despite the
incident, the mock practice field gave us a lot of useful information for the future.
Fundraising
By: Cara Lizotte —EFHS Freshman
Fundraising: On December 7th we went to Rentschler Field to fundraise money for the team, to pay for
travel costs. It was cold, but not raining and fun. New Lauren and I found bacon packages and sliced
ham. Bradley found a green canvas tent. I was kind of frozen by the end of it, but it was all worth it.
There was a lot of mud on the ground because it had rained the day before, but it was easier to pick up
the trash because not as many people went the game the day before.
Hard Work but Worth It
By: Jonathan Leduke—EFHS Freshman
In the course of preseason, we went to Rentschler Field for a fundraiser. We had to clean the parking lot. It was really messy; garbage was everywhere. It sounds worse than it really was. It was more fun than I thought it would be because we found a lot of weird stuff, like bacon, broken tents, egg shells, ham, lemons and other things. There were also garbage bags everywhere full of trash. The job was quick. We were allowed to bring a parent to help so we could get twice the amount money for our
individual accounts. The bad thing was that it was cold, but you forgot about the cold when you were working. Going to Rentschler Field was very hard work but worth it!

F IR ST T e am 175 Pre Season: Fermi Fest & Fundraising
A Frigid Sunday Morning By: Eric Barnes—EFHS Junior
My first robotics fundraising experience occurred on a frigid Sunday morning. No one told me what to expect, but when I started to pick up the trash at the field it wasn’t so bad, until the wind picked up, resulting in trash blowing away and very cold fin-
gers. Overall, the whole experience was fun and I got to have a good time hardcore fundraising with
the team.
Fermi Fest 2014
In the fall, Buzz Robotics demonstrated the robot at Fermi Fest. Fermi students were really excited
by the robot, even our Vice Principal Mr. I was excited!

First offical day of pre season. Veteran students teaching the new comer about last years robot.
Buzz Practice Field at Stowe Elementary School
The Enfield Public School System has graciously allowed us to use the Stowe Elementary School to house a practice field. This is an amazing
addition to Buzz Robotics, it will give us a full field to practice on throughout the season. We will be able to train drivers, accurately test robot systems and autonomous modes. In addition, we will be able to host other teams in this space to practice with them! Special thanks to
Jason Arocouette of Flooring Installations for his help with the rug!
