Sometimes the School sets a ‘hard’ exam paper,

sometimes an ‘easy’ one – by chance, not deliberately.

This situation is controlled by ‘standard-setting’. Thisincludes determination of the difficulty of each subpart ofeach exam by experts (or a statistical process as done inthe ICAs) for determination of a ‘pass-mark’. We thenadjust student marks to the passing standard of 50%.

These adjusted % marks are reported to students

Standard-setting

• Check QMPlus in the MBBS Year 2 course portal-‘Exams Information’ for presentations, the Part 2 Schemefor Assessment, Seen scenarios and other information

• As noted, practice spotters are available here too

• Contact the Student Office or me with any additionalqueries

• Dr. Yeatman may give further practice sessions forclinical skills. Student groups are organised to help you.

Study together. Don’t leave any studying to the lastmoment!
