Escape to a landscape untouched by time.Malvern, once described as ‘middle Englandpersonified’ offers a wide range of things tosee and do. The Malvern Hills extend fornine miles, offering ideal walking conditionsand spectacular views stretching to theCotswolds and the Welsh Marches.

The area has inspired many great artists suchas English composer Sir Edward Elgar andfamed authors W.H. Auden, C.S. Lewis andJ.R.R. Tolkien. Malvern is also the home ofthe 11th century Great Malvern Priory, theMorgan Motor Company and the source ofthe world renowned Malvern Spring Water.

North of Bromsgrove, Wythall’s TransportMuseum offers fine examples of buses andbattery electric vehicles, plus a miniaturesteam railway (operating selected days).

In Redditch, visit Forge Mill Needle Museum,to learn how 90% of the world’s needles wereonce produced in the town and the adjacentruins of medieval Bordesley Abbey. Movewest to Avoncroft Museum, England’s firstopen air collection of historic buildings andsouthwest to Hanbury Hall (National Trust)and close to it, the Jinney Ring Craft Centre,to wonder at craftspeople working in theirown individual businesses.

In the northwest visit Harvington Hall, asuperb moated medieval and Elizabethanmanor house. Also explore fascinatingdisplays and events at Bewdley Museum/Silver Jubilee Gardens and HartleburyMuseum. Kidderminster is home to theRailway Museum, 16 mile Severn ValleyRailway and the UK’s only Museum of Carpet.

The wonderful natural environment iscomplemented by built influences from theGeorgians, Victorians, and even medievaland Roman times.

In the springtime, the Vale of Evesham isawash with blossom. Hillsides rising fromthe Avon shimmer with plum white andapple pink, and country lanes offer views intoorchards behind the damson trees traditionallyplanted in hedgerows to protect the mainfruit from the wind. This is the time to followthe 45 mile AA signed Blossom Trail by car,coach or bicycle, to admire the views acrossthe Vale and eat in a local pub or restaurant.

The British Asparagus Festival in the Valeof Evesham runs from St George’s Day,the 23rd April, to Midsummers Day on the21st June, so time your visit to enjoy thesights and scents of the blossom, quirkyevents, festivals and the best local producein town and village pubs and restaurants.

If spring is for the sight and scent, then Augustis for the taste, as Pershore wraps itself in

purple for the Plum Festival. Bank Holidayweekend sees thousands of plummy devotesdescend on the town to enjoy the fruitsat this multi award-winning event.

September sees Salt Fest in Droitwich Spa,celebrating the saline heritage going backto the Roman times. The town buzzes withactivities over the weekend, with craft andfarmers’ markets, music and entertainment,and of course the Romans all contributingto a colourful, vibrant event.
