Fall Sports
News and Summaries
Girls Golf The 2015 golf season is almost complete and once again, the Lady Rams have one of the top teams in the state. 2014 saw the team sweep through the Seminole Athletic Conference Championship, the FHSAA 3A District 5 Championship, the FHSAA 3A Region 2 Championship and finish as FHSAA 3A State Finals Runner-up. Thus far in 2015, the Rams have already captured the Seminole Athletic Conference Championship, the FHSAA 3A District 5 Championship, finished second in the Lady Wildcat Challenge in Hilton Head, South Carolina and third at the prestigious Honda Classic High School Invitational in a field of 18 Championship teams.
7 members from last seasons’ group returned and were joined by one talented freshman. Senior Selin Timur was an All-Conference, all District 5, and 1st team All State performer in 2014. She is back and is poised to have another outstanding season. Selin is from Turkey and spent her summer playing European events. Selin was selected to represent Turkey in the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy event in England and traveled to Kent, England in September to compete against players from over 30 different countries. Fellow
senior Sydney Merchant was also an All- Conference, and All District golfer in 2014. Sydney came to Lake Mary last season from Colorado where she was a 2 time All State golfer. She has played in the US Women’s Amateur along with many top Juniors events. Syd is a very talented athlete who also plays soccer for Lake Mary. She has committed to play golf for the University of North Florida next fall. Another very athletic golfer is Senior Bianca Cruz. Bianca was the Seminole Athletic Conference Individual Champion in 2014. She was also an All District golfer. After golf season ends, Bianca will be back on the basketball court where she was an All-Conference guard for the Lady Rams basketball team. Senior Colomba Martinez was a solid player in 2014 and returns this fall to compete for a top 5 spot. Last season, Colomba worked very hard and by season’s end, she had earned a spot on the State Finals roster. As a Senior, Colomba has proved to be a very valuable member of the 2015 team. 2 talented Sophomores will be major contributors to the teams’ success this fall. Sophomore Macy Somoskey was a top 5 player her entire Freshman season. She was an All-District golfer in 2014 and returns in 2015 with a season of experience and the kind of talent that will have college coaches taking notice. Macy is a very smart golfer, and that makes her a very consistent performer. Sophomore Jenny Kim has had a fantastic summer of golf, gaining experience and confidence with every tournament she played. She is a very physically talented golfer and will now combine that with the confidence she gained in the off season to be one of the top players in the county. Junior Taylor Fisk is in her 3rd season of golf for the Rams. She has been hard at work this summer and has shown great improvement. Incoming Freshman Kayla Li has just joined the team but has quickly shown that her golf skills are considerable. She is a golfer with a bright future at Lake Mary.
The season now moves into the final phase, the Regional and State Finals events. The golf program at Lake Mary High School has a tradition of success and this team plans to continue that success in 2015.

Softball Slow Pitch Spotlight
The slow pitch softball spot light this year is on senior, Juctice Battenberg. Justice starting playing softball when she was 11 years old. When she came to Lake Mary in the fall of her freshman year she decided try out for the slow pitch team and made it. She has played in multiple positions over the past four years. This year she has been a pitcher and catcher for the team. Along with being a member of the slow pitch team, Juctice also holds down two part time jobs, one babysitting a 5 year old and the other being a server at the Spring Hills Retirement Home. Juctice is an honor student with a GPA of 3.8 who plans on studying nursing and eventually hopes to become a family practitioner.
Fast Pitch Tryouts
Fast pitch tryouts will take place the week of Jan 11, 2016. Varsity tryouts will be on Jan 11-12 from 2:30-5pm and JV tryouts will take place on Jan 13-14 from 5-7pm. Bowling
The bowling season is winding down and the teams are getting ready for district competition on Monday, October 26th at Airport Lanes in Sanford. The boys bowling team has a record of 8-6 and is being led by the top bowler in the county in Junior Robert Poole. Robert has an average of 230, which is not only the best in the county but would also be a record average for Lake Mary High School if he can maintain it through the end of the season. Also making big contributions to the team are returning bowlers Junior Nick Orefice with an average of 186 and Sophomore James Etzold with an average of 171. The team also consists of one of the best freshman in the county in Lance High, who has an average of 197. Sophomore Tyler Daniels, new to the sport, has seen the most improvement in his game with an average that has improved over 20 pins. The boys team heads into district competition with a target on their backs as the only team in the county to make it to the state tournament the last two years.
The girls bowling team currently has a record of 5-8. The team is having its best season in years in terms of team average. The team has three returning bowlers in Seniors Lacey Kenner (121 average), Olivia Garner (127 average), and Maddie Miller (107 average). The team is being led by Junior newcomer Mariah Graboff, who has one of the best averages in the county with a 157. The other newcomers on the team are Junior Grace Storch (109 average), Sophomore Valerie Colimodio (122 average), Sophomore Nikki Wesley (104 average), Sophomore Lily Fender (88 average), and Freshman Kaya Turner (98 average). The girls head into district competition with a great chance of making it to the baker portion of the day and giving themselves a chance of making it to the state tournament.

Girls Cross Country After losing 3 seniors from their varsity squad, it
looked likely that the Lady Rams would be having a
rebuilding year. However, the introduction of
three talented, hard working freshmen turned
things around. As we head into the State Series,
the ladies are ranked 1st in Conference and
District, 5th in the "Region of Death" and in the top
ten of the state. The Lady Rams have qualified for
the State Championships four out of the last 5
years, and they are looking to make that five this
season. Leading the team is
Junior standout Daniela Urzua. Daniela's time has
her ranked in the top 5 of the entire state, all
classifications combined. Out of the five races she
has run this season, Daniela has won 1st overall in
four of them, including the prestigious Mt.
Dew Invitational at UF. With her talent and
drive, becoming a 4A state champion would be the
ultimate goal. As talented as Danieka is, a good
cross country team needs five solid runners to
score and that we have. Returners Cheyenne St.
Lewis ad Maggie Lyons are running consistently
well as the team's 2nd and 3rd runners. Freshmen
Maddie O'Brien and Kaelin Tully came on board
this year and made all the difference by rounded
out the Rams top five with increasingly solid
performances. Senior Dina Samaan, Freshman
Caroline Hazen, Sophomores Brianna Simcox and
Angela Jordan, and Junior Nicole Mattos round
out the teams top ten runners. They have their
sights on the Regional race in 2 weeks. They plan
on qualifying for the State Championships for the
4th year in a row. Wish them luck! Go Rams! Girls
cross country won conference. Daniela Urzua was
1st overall and Cheyenne St. Lewis was 6th both
earned 1st team All Conference. Maggie Lyons and
Maddie O'brien earned 2nd team All Conference
honors!
Cheerleading
The LMHS Competition Cheerleading season is quickly approaching! Our practices will begin October 14 and our first competition will take place November 16. We are hoping and preparing for victory!
Swimming
The boys are having an amazing swim season with a record so far of 4-2 and placing 3rd overall in the SAC swim meet. The boys are led by seniors Ben Whitty, Zac Stout, and Ethan DeRouis and Junior Jacob Finegan who won the SAC swim meet for the 200 Medley Relay. We are very excited for the state series to begin on October 28.
The girls are have a good swim season so far of 3-3 and placing 5th overall in the SAC swim meet. The girls are led by Senior Angela Vazquez, Juniors Daniela Duarte, and Allison Murphy, Sophmores, Natalie Bucci and Nicole Bucci, and Freshman, Ceanna Roddey, Olivia McCaw and Celine Benedico who all placed in the top 10 at the SAC swim meet. We are very excited for the state series to begin on October 28.

Boys Cross Country The 2015 Men’s Cross Country Team has picked up
right where it left off last season. After two state
appearances and a high successful track season the
Rams graduated 3 out of their top 5. This season
the Running Rams have shown they are not
finished just yet.
Two years ago they made their first state
appearance finishing 9th. Last year they fell just
short of the podium with a 5th place finish, the best
in school history. During track season John Lyons
help propel the teams 4x800 relay to one of the
best in the country.
This season the running rams became closer as a
team. With the absence of the one two punch
from Ryan DeGale (Troy University) and Christian
Aman (FSU) the Rams have relied on pack running
to have another successful season.
Early on it was apparent that by sticking together
the Rams would be a force to deal with in 4A once
again. The team has come together, and is faster
than a year ago. The teamwork, and dedication
has paid off and vaulted the Rams to 4th place
currently in 4A.
The Rams have added freshman sensation Canaan
St. Lewis, who just recently broke the schools
freshman record. He currently is the 7th fastest
freshmen in the state. Returning runners, Billy
Field, Sean Griffin, Ethan Golsmith, and Devin
Boyle, have all become better runners than a year
ago. J.V. standout Tommy Conigliaro battle his way
up the depth chart to land a spot on this historic
team.
Next week the Rams will go at it again in the most dominant district, followed by the aptly named region of death. The Rams are looking to qualify for states for the third consecutive year. They will once again make an attempt to be crowned state champs.

Boys Golf
2015 has already been a year for the record books for the Lake Mary Boy’s Varsity Golf Team and the excitement has only just begun. The team is currently in preparation to defend their title as Class 3A State Champions, comprised of many returning players from Lake Mary’s historic 2014 season. The boys are eagerly awaiting another chance to showcase their talents and secure the Class 3A State Championship Title for the second straight year in a row. It’s a thrilling time to be a Ram! This year began with a 1st place finish at the Winter Park Invitational at Rio Pinar Country Club followed by a 1st place finish at the Spruce Creek Hawks Invitational at Spruce Creek Country Club. Our first two day tournament was the Titan Invitational at the Hammock Beach Resort where we competed against the 2014 Class 1A and Class 2A State Championship teams and finished in 1st place. Next, we moved onto the Qdoba Tournament of Champions at the Providence Golf Club. The Qdoba Field was limited to the top three teams in each class from the 2014 FHSAA State Championship. Lake Mary came in 3rd place. As defending champions of the Orlando Sentinel Super Six, Lake Mary hosted this year’s event at the Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes. Lake Mary finished in a tie for 2nd place. Lake Mary went undefeated in Seminole Athletic Conference matches with a record
of (7-0) and placed 1st in the Seminole Athletic Conference Championship. For the first time in the history of the Seminole Athletic Conference Championship, all five of the Lake Mary’s golfers were named to the First Team All Conference.
Lake Mary began the post season defending their title with a win at the FSHAA District 5 Championship.
Lake Mary will continue the post season advancing to the FSHAA Region 2 Championship on October 20th when Lake Mary will defend their championship title.
This post season will conclude with the FSHAA Class 3A State Championship on November 2nd -4th where the Lake Mary Varsity Boy’s are looking to go Back 2 Back!
While most any team would be satisfied with the boys’ recent track record, and while the year will be one to remember no matter what the outcome; this team will not be content without bringing their all to the State Championship.
Lake Mary Boys Golf is “in it to win it.” Stay posted for more exciting updates.

Congratulations to our Varsity Football team for two exciting overtime wins in as many weeks.
Two weeks ago the Bears tied the game on a last second Field goal, Winter Springs scored a touchdown and tacked on an extra point. The Rams answered with a Marquis Mickens TD and then Alex Tichonoff ran for a two-point conversion on a statue of liberty play for an electrifying final play in overtime to lift Lake Mary to a pulsating 37-36 win over the visitors.
Last Friday the Deland Bulldogs tied the game on the last play of regulation. The Bulldogs scored first in OT and added the PAT. The Rams answered with a touchdown pass from Charlie Peterson to Michael Ziemba and then got the 2 point conversion on a fake field goal pass from from AJ Edwards to Michael Ziemba!
The Rams are currently 2-2 in district play (3-4 overall) and still in the playoff hunt. Join us this Friday for the Brighthouse Television game of the week against University Orange City at 7:30 pm here at Don T. Reynolds Stadium.
Football Player Spotlight is on

As we look ahead to spring, below are some important dates for players trying out for the 2016 LMHS Girl’s Lacrosse team: Monday, December 14, 2015 - Pre-season conditioning begins Friday, January 15, 2016 – Pre-season conditioning ends Monday, January 18, 2016 – Team tryouts A reminder to all players and parents, all SCPS athletic physical and eligibility documentation must be completed and on file with the LMHS athletic department no later than Monday, December 7, 2015 in order to participate in pre-season conditioning. Athletes need to visit the athletic office as soon as possible to acquire the 2015-2016 SCPS athletic physical and eligibility documents and
ensure everything gets properly completed and returned to Mrs. Quinones in the athletics department by December 7, 2015. Anyone with questions concerning the 2016 girl’s lacrosse program may contact the coaches directly: Grant Derner Head Varsity Coach [email protected] 407-702-4837 Patrick Barrett Head JV Coach [email protected] 407-443-1981
Boys Basketball: Tryouts begin on Monday, October 26th at a
time to be determined. Anybody wishing to
tryout must have a physical on file in the
athletic office.
The Lake Mary Boys Basketball program had another successful summer. The Rams hosted over 150 elementary and middle school basketball players during three great weeks of basketball camp. The Rams also played in close to 30 games this summer, traveling to the University of Florida, UCF, and Rollins to participate in team camps. The team improved in every area, and can't wait to get on the floor this winter.
