10 th International Chamber Music Composition Competition in partnership with Sheet Music Plus Winning Submission Receives a $1000 Commission for a New Work Score Submission Deadline: 11:59pm, December 19th, 2015 Areon Flutes, a professional flute chamber music ensemble, provides audiences with a fresh outlook on traditional chamber music. Celebrated for their innovative programming and collaborations, Areon has quickly established itself as a premier chamber music ensemble in the U.S. and abroad. Areon Flutes incorporates every member of the flute family in its programming and the group's performances are notable for creatively engaging audiences with unique staging, theatrics, and choreography. Part of Areon's mission is to make flute chamber music a dynamic voice in the chamber music world by leaving a new, diversified chamber music legacy. This competition, in partnership with Sheet Music Plus, is designed to add and promote outstanding new repertoire to the flute chamber music world. How to Enter the Competition: 1. Read the competition guidelines below. 2. Complete the application form on the Areon Flutes website (areonflutes.com/education/international-chamber-music-competition/apply). 3. Submit the $25 application fee via PayPal to [email protected]. 4. Upload 2 compositions, consisting of score and parts (PDF) and audio recording (MP3), to Digital Print Publishing (digitalprintpublishing.sheetmusicplus.com), an independent distribution service from Sheet Music Plus that enables composers to sell their music directly on sheetmusicplus.com. How to Upload your Compositions: - Works submitted for the competition are to be uploaded through Digital Print Publishing (digitalprintpublishing.sheetmusicplus.com). In addition to submitting their works for this competition, uploading submissions through Digital Print Publishing allows contestants to sell and promote these works through Sheet Music Plus’s international music community. - Interested composers must upload 2 pieces from the following categories: - Unaccompanied Solo Flute Work - Accompanied Solo Flute Work - Chamber Work of 2-6 players *No Orchestral or Large Ensemble works are permitted. * Both submitted works must have been written in the last 18 months and should reflect the applicant’s current aesthetic. - After signing up for Digital Print Publishing, upload PDFs and MP3s together by clicking “Add a New Sheet Music Title”. - Duration and date of composition should be printed clearly on each score submitted. - A Live or MIDI recording of the piece in MP3 format is required (live recordings preferred). - Fill out all information about title, list price, description, composer, etc. - Type in the description box: “Submitted for 2015 Areon Flutes International Chamber Music Composition Competition” along with other programming information about the piece. Contest, Commission, and Prize Regulations: - Open to composers of all ages and nationalities. - Works will be reviewed by judge(s) selected by Areon Flutes. - Winning composer will receive a $1,000 commission from Areon Flutes for a new flute trio piece and expanded promotion from Sheet Music Plus. Distribution from Carolyn Nussbaum Music Co. will also be available. - All decisions are final and Areon retains the option not to select a winner. Prizes may be withheld or reduced where adequate standards are not met. - If insufficient entries are received then the competition will not proceed and entry fees will be refunded. - Winning composer will be notified by email on February 20th, 2016. Announcements will be posted on areonflutes.com and sheetmusicplus.com. - Commission for flute trio piece will be for a work of 10-12 minutes and can include C flute, Piccolo, Alto Flute, and/or Bass Flute. - Commission process will include collaboration with Areon Flutes over several months. A minimum of 3 collaborative workshops must happen in person or online before the work is completed. - Scores and parts for the commissioned piece, both in manuscript and published form, must carry the statement “Commissioned by Areon Flutes”.
