    Chaplains Corner

My Brothers, Where do I begin. We have suffered several losses over the last couple of months that have just set us back on our heels. We have lost Brothers and friends and our Fraternity is saddened by their loss. Our Brother Jim Campbell who served as our Junior Warden last year was taken sud-

denly after a brief illness. Our Brother R.W. Joe Price was also taken to that Celestial Lodge suddenly and be-fore any of us could imagine. Their loss was a blow to our Lodge and the Craft and they will be greatly missed. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers. Also keep in you prayers RW Ted Jansen and Bro George Shoemaker who are both in rehab right now. May the Great Architect watch over all our Brothers and keep them safe.

    LIGHT FROM THE EAST

    WM Ron Glover

I hope this year is still finding you well. 2015 continues to speed by as we prepare for our trip to

Grand Lodge in Orlando on Memorial Day and as always I would like to thank everybody for their continued

support, especially the Past Masters. Your help and advice is welcome and appreciated.

I would like to take a moment to talk about a few of the upcoming events at our Lodge. June is going to

a busy month for us. We will be having our usual 1st Saturday breakfast and 2nd Sunday dinners on the 6th and

12th, respectively. The breakfast will have, as usual, eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage links and patties,

home fries, grits, pankcakes, waffles, biscuits & gravy, donuts, sweet rolls, and all the coffee or juice you can

drink for just $6. Our dinner in June will be our annual Celebratory Indoor Cookout with real beef hamburgers

and hotdogs with all the fixings and plenty of sides. We need your support with these dinners Brothers. It's not

only your support that we need, but we would like to some some of the old friendly faces back in the dining

hall and the lodge. Come on back down.

I would also like to announce that after the dinner on June 14th, the Leesburg Chapter of The Order of

The Eastern Star will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary at 3pm in Leesburg Lodge. It is an open event and

everybody is welcome. People will be coming from all across the state to attend. Lets turn out and show them

how we can support them. Please RSVP to 352-430-0238 if you plan to attend, so they can plan for the food.

In addition to our normal stated communications on the first and third Tuesdays, we will be putting on

a Master Mason Degree in Leesburg Lodge for the first time in several years. It is a very special event and we

are honored to be able to host the proceedings. We are in the planning stages right now but it appears as if it

will be on Thursday, June 25th. We will be raising five Fellowcrafts to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason,

three Brothers from our Lodge, one from The Villages, and one from Mt. Dora. Due to the number of Brothers

we are raising we are going to be starting this degree a little earlier in the day, either 1 or 2 o'clock in the after-

noon. Leesburg will be putting on the first part of the degree and our Senior Warden Jeff Lamb will be presid-

ing in the East. We will then be taking a break for some refreshments before we begin the second part of the

Degree, which will be put on by The Villages. It is always a memorable event for our Brothers to be raised and

it means so much more when they see the Brethren there to welcome them. Please come and help us in the

raising of these new Master Masons. We have some good men coming through and they need your support.

On Tuesday, June 16th, we will be having our official visit from our newly appointed District Deputy

Grand Master, Right Worshipful Alan E. Heist and our new District Instructor, Right Worshipful Ed Mayfield.

RW Heist will be spreading the message of our new Grand Master, Most Worshipful Steven P. Boring. Please

come and find out what our new Grand Master has in store for us this year. It's also a good time to ask ques-

    tions.

I would also like to announce that we will be having another guest speaker during the month of July.

For those that remember the great lecture that Right Honorable Aubrey Cross gave in our Lodge last year con-

cerning General Douglas MacArthur, I am please to announce that during our first meeting, Tuesday July 7th,

Right Honorable Aubrey Cross will be returning to give a 30 to 40 minute speech about the signers of the Dec-

laration of Independence, both the Masons and non-Masons, and about their sacrifices and the consequences of

their bold actions that help shaped this country that we know and love. Everybody is invited; Masons, non-

Masons, wives and children. The speech will begin at 7pm, and we will start our meeting afterward. Please

help spread the word and invite somebody you know. I believe this is a subject that everybody should know

    more about.

Like I said Brothers, June is looking to be a busy month and it appears to be spreading over into July.

Come down to the Lodge and visit. Stay safe out there Brothers.

    Fraternally,

    Ron J Glover

    From the West

    Bro. Jeff Lamb

My fellow Masons I would like to send out a

invitation this month to our Brothers who have not

been in lodge lately. Our membership is somewhere in

the neighborhood of two hundred and fifty, yet our at-

tendance at lodge each meeting is only about ten per-

    cent of that number.

Leesburg lodge seems to be on an upswing as we

are bringing in new members and trying new things to

increase participation. If you've not been to a meeting

in some time, I'm sure the thought of showing up one

Tuesday night may seem a bit uncomfortable. There

will be a lot of faces you don't recognize, old friends

are going to ask where you've been, and your not really

sure if you remember all of the due guards. (don't

worry about that one, they put me in as Senior Warden

and I mess up the Fellow craft one almost every time.)

Remember we are Brothers, and you will be wel-

comed as such. This fraternity is only as strong as it's

members make it, we want you back no matter how

long it's been since you have crossed the threshold of

    the Lodge.

I'm sure many of you were active at one time in the

Lodge, maybe even moved through the chairs and sat in

the East at one time. Or just enjoyed the fellowship of

being in the presence of men who think alike, and have

the same values as you. One of the great things about

Freemasonry is you can take as little or as much as you

like. Either way your Brothers would be more then

happy to see you sitting in Lodge again. Don't underes-

timate the power of your memory either, after three or

four times, I'm sure most of the ritual and procedures

    will come back to you.

Join us again, make new friends, reacquaint your-

self with old ones, and by all means come by and allow

me to introduce myself to you (I'm easy to find, I'm the

good looking guy in the West) You may be surprised

and find Freemasonry take hold of you again like it did

when you first made those three distinct knocks at the

    inner door.

We may not have met, but I'll be looking for you,

along with the rest of your Brothers on the first and

third Tuesday of the month at seven o'clock.

    See you soon my Brothers

    Senior Warden

    From the Secretary

    WHank DeBerry

Brothers, I apologize for the brevity of the Trestle Board this month. I find myself in a quan-dary about it. I know that the thing has to be written and sent out every month without fail yet I look at the blank page on the screen and ask myself each month is anyone going to really read this or am I the only one who gives a poop? Well, that is why it is so dang short this time and even less last month. I kept asking myself the same questions over and over and I finally realized what I had to do and why. I volunteered for this job and got elected to this office and agreed to do it to the best I know how and I havent been living up to part of that deal. So here I am writing furiously nine days before it has to be in the hands of the Lodge Brothers, and hoping that it will be enough. Brothers, we need to congratulate our Broth-ers, Jose Castro, Anthony Sierra and Jerry Hall on successfully returning their proficiency in the Fellow Craft degree. They were ably coached by Brother Jeff Lamb and he is to be commended also. When you see them in Lodge or out, be sure to let them know you have been pleased with their progress. We have a new Brother among us now. Brother Jayson Wood was Initiated on April 30th and the event was attended by his Grandfather W. Jay Frizzell We have one more Grand Lodge behind us now and I want to let our newest Junior Grand War-den know that we are very happy for his election and offer him our sincere congratulations! RW John Karroum, we will be looking forward to your visit to the 18th district in 2019! I am sure the Craft will welcome you with open arms. I would also like to congratulate our new

District Deputy Grand Master, RWAlan Heist. I look forward to his visits to our Lodge and around the district. Also we should thank RW Ed Mayfield for his service as DDGM and the very good job he did in that office. I am certain that he will also be a fine District Instructor. Dont forget to attend the Schools of Instruction for the district and learn the proper way to do the degrees in the Lodge. Also the Open Books are the place to learn the correct words to all the degrees, so come out and get a Masonic education, As always, I am in the Lodge office on Tues-days and Fridays so stop by and see me if you need anything or just to say hello!

    Exploration of the West

On the 14th of May, 1804, the year following the purchase of

the Louisiana Territory, Captain Meriwether Lewis and Captain

William Clark began their expedition of exploration of the new

    territory.

On a morning that was cold and windy, their journey records

that they "proceded under a Jentle brease up the Messowrie,"

with a small group of soldiers, frontiersmen from Kentucky and

"three French voyageurs" on assignment by President Thomas

Jefferson to cross the continent, find a pass through the Stony

(Rocky) Mountains, search for the headwaters of the Columbia

River and to proceed downstream to the Pacific.

It was an unexplored land and the journals are filled with ac-

counts of discovery of rivers, mountains, animals and substances

(such as "alkali poison") completely unknown. They described

the tribes of Indians they encountered. They found and appar-

ently named the first "grizzly" bear ever seen by anyone except

    Indians.

Brother William Clark. the expedition's co-leader, was a

member of St Louis Lodge No 111, under Pennsylvania charter,

and is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St Louis. His grave is

marked with a large monument bearing the square and com-

    passes.

Brother Meriwether Lewis, based on Masonic records, was a

member of Door to Virtue Lodge No 44, Albermarle County,

Virginia in 1797. When the Lodge passed out of existence in

1801, he affiliated with Widow's Son Lodge No 60, Milton, and

still later became, on its chartering, first Master of St Louis

Lodge No 111. Lewis was made Governor of Louisiana Terri-

    tory in 1808.

Both Masons were commended by President Jefferson for

their three years of perilous and invaluable exploits as

    "surveyors of a continent".

Brothers, last Sunday's dinner went okay but still a small

turnout. Please let your friend, neighbors and family know

about these wonderful meals that are available for just

$9.00. Be sure to sign up on the list so I can be sure to order and

    prepare enough food for everyone.

Many Brothers have asked so here is the recipe for:

Wayne's Meatloaf Recipe 1 lb ground beef

    1/2 lb ground pork

    1/2 lb ground veal

    2 eggs

    6 slices of bread

1 pkg Lipton onion soup mix

Mix all ingredients, except bread, in a large bowl. Dampen

bread with water and then squeeze water out. Add bread to

other ingredients. Place in loaf pan in 350 oven for 1 hour.

Enjoy with potatoes and vegetables and brown gravy.

This months menu is for an inside picnic! We will be having Hot Dogs and Hamburgers with baked beans and chips.

Change We live in a country where

change is a way of life. The

    United States is based on

    change.

    A change from a Monarchy

    A change from oppression

A change from one president to the next

A change from the 19th century technology to the

20th, and then to the 21st century. All in the same

century, actually all in a 30 year period.

Our forefathers agreed that we should be able

to change the constitution to meet the needs and

situations of the future. That is why amendments can

    be added.

    Everything changes; transportation, homes,

energy, government, environment, food, religion, and

even families. We talk about dysfunctional families,

common law spouse, living together, living apart, liv-

ing alone, and just plain living. Some of us think that

this is unsatisfactory, but it's olny change.

Even the Holy Scripture makes reference to

change, for if we do not change we stagnate.

We must make changes to meet this new and ever

changing world. Those who say "The old ways are

the best ways" better look again, THEY ARE NOT

WORKING! The saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

only works for machines, and at the rate our member-

    ship is dropping, it's broke.

Masonry, like the United States, the constitu-

tion, religion, and our families will always keep their

core values, ideas and ideals but we must change to

    meet the future.

Forty years ago Lipton Tea had little saying

on the paper tag attached to their tea bags, on one of

those tags was printed these words; "The best way to

cope with change is to help make it."

We now have an opportunity to move Ma-

sonry into the future, to make the changes. We must

make Freemasonry desirable for the young men look-

ing for fellowship. The only way we can do this, is

through change to meet the needs of these young

    men.

The word change was used 19 times in this

short talk. How many times did you say it in Lodge

last year, and then act on it.

    - William R. Fischer

    Comedy Corner

The Worshipful Master of our Lodge found a bottle with

a Genie in it. In accordance with custom, the Genie of-

fered to grant him a wish.

"OK," said the WM, "Ive always wanted to go to Ha-waii, but I hate to fly. So my wish is for you to build a

bridge so I can drive to Hawaii."

"I cant do that!!!" exclaimed the Genie. "Dont you know thats impossible? No Genie could do that. Its too far, the water is too deep, its just totally beyond anybodys power. You will have to make another wish."

"OK," said the Master. "I wish that at our next Stated

Meeting all the old PMs would just get along and not

cause any trouble, not have to tell us how they did it

their year, not complain about the ritual, not put down

the current officers ... just sit on the sidelines and be-

    have!"

"Hmmmmm," said the Genie. "Do you want that

bridge with 2 lanes or 4??"

It seems a Jewish family had rented an apartment that

sat directly under the Masonic Temple, and at least

once a month they would always hear this stomping

    from above.

One day Izzy told his wife he was going to drill a

hole in the ceiling and see what those Masons were up

to. After doing so, one evening he heard some stomp-

ing coming from above, so he got his ladder, climbed

up and decided to take a peek.

After a few moments, he flew down the ladder and

ran in and told his wife to pack all their belongs and

"Let's get out of here and fast !!!"

When she asked why, Izzy told her that he was just

peeking in on the Masons above and saw them kill a

man and said they were going to blame it on the 'JEW-

    BELOW.'
