They are a full service waste and recycling solutions company known for their red trucks. Since their founding in 1969, they have earned an impeccable reputa- tion for providing safe, reliable, and economical waste hauling, disposal, and recycling services. Their growth as a company is based on the principles of taking care of their customers and giv- ing back to the communities they serve. First Piedmont started in Rockingham County when the Miller plant opened. “The Miller contract put First Piedmont on the map to stay,” remembers Chairman Ben Davenport. “That contract took our company into the big time and we’ve never looked back. We were hauling for Miller 24/7.” Service in Rockingham County expanded to smaller dumpsters emptied on site, called front load service, in the early 2000s. Driver Keith Mustain started the route. Mustain sadly passed away this summer. His custom- ers and co-workers miss him. “I stopped at Fast Times in Went- worth last month and the owner there was so sad about Keith,” shared Vice President Christine Baggerly. Local driver Joey Hopkins, who lives in Stoneville, has been with First Piedmont since 2001. His brother Freddie also lives in Stoneville and services the Mar- tinsville area for First Piedmont. In the spring, First Piedmont started using trucks fueled by Compressed Natural Gas in Rockingham County. “Exhaust from these trucks is substantially cleaner than it is from a diesel truck,” according to President/ CEO Tommy Stump. “We’re proud that the air the residents of Rockingham County breathe is cleaner because of us.” First Piedmont contributes to our local environment in the broadest sense. VP Christine Baggerly currently serves on the Reidsville Chamber Board and the company was named Business of the Year in 2014 by the Eden Chamber. Local Sales Rep Tim Kemp volunteers as a Chamber Ambassador and also serves on the United Way Alloca- tions Committee. “We give back, because it’s the right thing to do. This community has supported us for more than 30 years and we’re just as com- mitted to supporting this commu- nity,” Baggerly stated. Each year First Piedmont sponsors a Christmas Party for the members of the Eden Boys and Girls Club, one of five they sponsor at Boys and Girls Clubs throughout their service area. “Amy Nalley and her staff do an outstanding job here in Eden. It’s one of the best run Clubs in the area. We’re grateful for the chance to help,” Baggerly added. First Piedmont also supports Morehead Hospital Founda- tion, the United Way, The Rock- ingham Arts Festival Passion for Trashin’ Art Show, Theatre Guild of Rockingham County and band competitions at Morehead and McMichael High Schools, to name a few. With over 140 employees, 90 trucks, and their own landfill, First Piedmont can provide reli- able service to industry and busi- ness around the clock. To find out more go to www.RelyOnRed. com.
