Ian Harris, Managing Director of Seadan Security &Electronics, leading wholesale provider of security systemsolutions, tells us about just some of the exciting CCTVproducts featuring the latest technology that they’ll beproudly showcasing this year.

what participating in this premier event means for them.

EXHIbItOr Q&a

maGnEtIc aUtOmatIOn:The Security Exhibition is a great opportunity to showcaseour products to a targeted audience. Not only canpotential clients see our diverse product range, butexisting customers are sometimes surprised by theproducts that they weren’t previously aware we supplied. It gives us a good awareness of what our competitors arelaunching in the market place in a social and informalatmosphere in which we can candidly talk about ourrespective products and ‘touch and feel’ our competitorproduct offerings. What’s more it offers a great meetingplace for our customers, particularly those from interstate,to see us in a face to face environment.

maInLInE SEcUrItY prODUctS:After becoming an ASIAL member back in 1986, it wasalways my goal to help launch a security exhibition forASIAL members and security companies to showcase theirproducts and services to the industry. After visiting the ISCWest in USA on a regular basis, I knew it would be a greatidea for ASIAL to get involved just like ISC West had been. With the support of some very active ASIAL members, Iencouraged the association to organise and facilitate theexhibition, which has been well supported by the entiresecurity industry over the last 30 years. I have alwaysenjoyed participating in the Security Exhibition; it is a greattime to meet up with your clients and your competitorsalike. It is also a prime opportunity to show new productsthat your clients and competitors may not have seen yet.

nESS cOrpOratIOn:For us, taking part in the Security Exhibition keeps usin front. It’s an increasingly competitive market withpressures from overseas suppliers and we need all theexposure we can get to stay ahead. Participating in theshow keeps us top of mind with potential customers andallows us to showcase new products to the right clientsand target markets. While we have a reasonable idea ofwhat our competition is doing, it’s also good for exhibitorsto witness first-hand not only what others are alreadyselling, but what is coming up and staying abreast ofdeveloping industry directions and trends. Exhibitors likeus get the opportunity to showcase our vision of the future, while receiving valuable feedback from key players andclients in the industry. Not often do you get a chancelike this to get in front of the quality people that the showattracts.

you have been a loyal and long-time exhibitor at the show; tell us what keeps youcoming back and how it benefits exhibitors like you?

EXHIbItOr Q&a

cr kEnnEDY:30 years ago, the industry was small and veryspecialised, and totally analogue. These days we allknow the industry is simply a part of the IT world. This hasbeen a major challenge to us all, but we seem to haveadapted successfully.

maGnEtIc aUtOmatIOn:It has moved towards electronic security rather thanphysical perimeter security, however the current politicalclimate has shifted to place high importance on physicalsecurity. There is a greater demand for customisedsolutions and integration of products into existing accesssystems and we have found particularly since last year, that there is now a greater interest in pedestrian security.

nESS cOrpOratIOn:Trends are forever evolving, but the same trends in someform come in waves and stages. In the last few years, there’s been an emphasis on CCTV technology andthere’s been a raft of changes in that field and controlsystem have taken a backseat. We see intrusion alarmsystems taking centre stage this year and definitely for thenext few years, especially with the inclusion of automationtechnology. CCTV technology has received greatexposure in the last few years and there have been greatadvances in high-definition technology and IP cameras.

LEDa SEcUrItY prODUctS:The Security Exhibition in its early days was very centredon CCTV, alarms and electronics. It has diversified greatlywhich has been a great trend that has attracted a morediverse exhibitor and visitor base.

cr kEnnEDY:Dallmeier is launching their third generation of Panomeraultra high resolution cameras. Unlike other high megapixelsystems, this latest generation performs incredibly well inlow light. Plus Uniview will be launching in Australia, thisis one of the top three brands in China and will have aphenomenal range of CCTV products on show fresh fromIFSEC UK.

maInLInE SEcUrItY prODUctS:Predominantly only our latest products will be on displayat the show. We’ll be introducing the MiVISION rangeof CCTV products including 4K resolution IP camerasand NVRs and HD-CVI the next level of HD over coax.Alongside our new generation of integrated securityalarm home automation and access control systemsincorporating hardwire 16Z system that can be expandedup to 64 zones supports by user friendly App.

nESS cOrpOratIOn:This year we’re doing something completely different– a next-generation control system with automationtechnology. Automation has been the big winner andprobably the saviour for monitoring companies in theUnited States like ADT which have been brought backfrom the brink. The new platform has built-in homeautomation features like Z-Wave, a mesh network andwireless protocol. It’s a simple device that connects to anyappliance which you can program and control — anythingfrom door locks to lighting controls.

SEaDan SEcUrItY & ELEctrOnIcS:This year Seadan’s product offering will be dedicatedto CCTV. As the exclusive distributor of Dahua brandedproducts, our large focus will be on Dahua CCTV camerasand NVRs such as the unique HDCVI technology, 4Ktechnology, thermal technology as well as IP. We’ll alsobe showcasing Pelco by Schneider Electric.

could you tell us more about the trends you’ve seen come and go over theyears at the show?

tell us about the new products you will feature at this year’s security exhibition?

Page 39: 2015 Show Guide

SECURITYEXPO.COM.AU 39

cr kEnnEDY:HD 1080P is pretty much standard for CCTV these days, short term there will be some competition between thevarious formats such as SDI, but longer term IP will be theultimate winner. Like all industries affected by technologyconvergence, the hardware will become commoditisedso the focus will be on providing unique security andsurveillance solutions to the market.

LEDa SEcUrItY prODUctS:Leda has lived through the security industry in the last 20years. In terms of anti-terror equipment we see particularlygovernment and infrastructure clients now moving tohigher international standards. Many years ago the threatenvironment allowed for lower engineered solutions of(HVM) Hostile Vehicle Mitigation equipment. The threatenvironment has changed in Australia and the securityrequirements are of a much higher standard in terms ofengineering, product and installation.

maGnEtIc aUtOmatIOn:We anticipate seeing a stronger architectural influenceover product specifications whilst national securityconcerns require that products are rated to an externalcertification system (eg PAS, crash testing, SCEC, etc).

SEaDan SEcUrItY & ELEctrOnIcS:A definite move towards IP cameras in CCTV as well asthe convergence of technology around access control, intercoms and cameras.

maInLInE SEcUrItY prODUctS:The coming years will be very exciting indeed. In accesscontrol, although it is here already, the IP functionwill be further developed in products and utilizing IPfunctionality will become standard with an in-built featureon most access control products. Electric wireless lockswill be utilized by a lot more in mainstream accesscontrol manufacturer’s products as is already noticeableoverseas. These locks are making installations simpler asthey have a card reader and or PIN/card reader built-inas a standalone lock, they can also be utilised with othermainstream access control systems. The use of Cloudservices will greatly expand, this will be in all types ofsecurity products, including CCTV and access as well asalarms for ease of access from anywhere. There will bemore innovative IP Intercom solutions. IP Intercom will bemore prominent for offices, in buildings, apartments andhomes. Although a lot of these types of products havealready been released to the market in the past, it is oneof the product types that will be further developed inthe future and more innovative products like this will bereleased in the coming years.

What do you think is on the horizon for the australasian security industryin the next 5 years?

security requirementsare of a muchhigher standard
