“I do not think 2015 will be a year of settling. I see 2015 as a year of changes and
challenges. In 2015 we will all have to work harder and smarter if we want to succeed and
grow. In the coming year I believe we will have to make some hard decisions and change
the way we do business. This year it will be most vital that all locations contribute to the
grow of the company and that will be our renewed focus in 2015. I look forward to the
challenges with the confidence that with all your help we will be able to look back at 2015
as a success.”—Daryle Settles, Vice President
With a new year here, we got a
recap of 2014 from both our Presi-
dent and Vice President of Weldon
Parts Inc. “After a year of explosive
change in 2013, 2014 was a year of
consolidation and growth. 2013 saw
a new store in Perryton, moving to
new buildings in OKC, Clinton, and
Grand Island, and complete front
end makeovers in Elk City and
Grand Island. 2014 saw both sales
and bottom line grow. In a lot of
cases, progress came from doing
what we’ve done traditionally, but
doing it better. Attendance at our
customer appreciation days was up,
and we continued to improve at
making them more efficient, and
New Year, New Beginnings
more enjoyable for customers and
vendors. Our product training
went to all stores and expanded
into outlying areas. We added A/C
certification to our deliverables to
our customer base. Marketing
took a big step forward. We
sharpened our skills at promoting
clinics and open houses. We start-
ed an organized social media pro-
gram also. We began a major re-
organization of our purchasing
procedures. We increased trans-
fer truck schedules in Florida and
our western stores. All in all, we
have laid foundation for what
promises to be a very good year in
2015. As usual, our success is
driven by the quality of our peo-
ple. On behalf of Weldon, I thank you for your efforts. Together, we
have a bright future. Looking back
on 2014 I see the year as one of
"settling in". With the exception of
the changes required by the loss
of one of our teammates the year
was one of getting back to work
after a 2013 that brought many
changes. We settled into
new buildings, new locations
and expanded store fronts.
We settled into new store
managers, new truck drivers
and new faces. “

Classes Make a Good Year
More to Come in 2015 Chuck Harwell
Here is a brief summary of Chuck Harwell’s training clas-ses for brakes and a/c for 2014. “The brakes classes went good in all locations. There was good attendance at all classes. The new out of town classes were a great success; they brought new and old customers to us for training. The purpose of these classes were for us to go to them, instead of them coming to us. At each class for the most part, we had Wayne Arn-spiger (NTN) doing a wheel bearing adjustment class before I did the brake class. This will continue on into 2015 for most stores. The A/C certification classes were also a great success at each
location. What was a big surprise was the lack of knowledge by the mechanics, that they didn't know they needed this certification to be legal. It was trying at times to translate to Hispanic speaking mechanics, for the definition of a special word, but we succeeded in getting this done. In going forward to 2015, we will have a new and revised brake training classes for both in town and out of town locations. As for the A/C class, "MACS" has changed the certification power point presentation to include the new r1234 Freon. The power point is more? You will have to wait and see it for yourself. Our open houses that included a vendor
table for our brake shop were widely accepted by our customers, there were lots of questions asked, and all leads were turned over to the store managers to follow-up on for a prospect customer. I look forward to working with all this year(2015), and hope --- no we WILL sell lots of brake shoes and have great classes.... Until then, be safe.” —C. Harwell

A nice dinner with the members of our local club and a good night’s sleep sounded like a great wrap-up to precede our long ride home from the National in St. Paul on Sunday morn-ing! Our club treasurer Jennifer decided to ride with me to dinner, which was fine with me. She’s the perfect pillion as you don’t often realize she’s there! We all enjoyed a wonderful dinner, and headed back to the campground for our good night’s sleep. I backed the trusty R1100RSL into the curb in front of our tents. Jenn climbed off in her usual stealth mode, and I switched off the key as the sidestand went down. The next morning found everyone well rested and packing up their camp. Jenn and I decided that a hot cup of coffee sounded great, so, along with three others, we elected to ride to the closest shop on the fairgrounds, and Jenn could carry four cups of coffee in a tray with one hand and the extra cup in the other, God bless her. However my trusty RSL seemed to have other ideas. It cranked and cranked, but would not fire a lick. Oh carp! I began trying to mentally diagnose what could be wrong. She’s nearing the 100k mark, but I rebuilt the HES with new sensors and wire not long ago, that doesn’t seem likely… coils possibly…computer? Ignition control module? Aww geez this is going to take a while. I soon had it stripped down with plastic lying all over the sidewalk along, with the gas tank looking some-
what like skeletor. Here I am with a tiny volt-meter attempting to diagnose the reason I’m not going home. It seemed like every MOA member in the area came by with a story of something similar happening to them and what their problem turned out to be. Some suggestions good, others just killing time or so it seemed in my frustrated state. All of the local club members were standing around, patiently waiting to hit the road. After a while, it became clear that they all needed to be on the road as some needed to be at work on Monday. I valiantly told them to head home, that I’d be all right. No one wanted to leave me there, especially Pop (winner of the oldest rider award). He had faint tears in his eyes when he said, “Son, I can’t hardly stand to leave you here.” In an at-tempt to reassure him, I said, “Pop I know, but there is noth-ing you can do to help, and I don’t want you to have to ride home alone. I’ve been in worse situations than this and made it through, now go on!” After they had left, there I sat looking around. The vendors had all cleared out early, and the place was rapidly beginning to look
like a ghost town. Keep in mind this was Sunday morning. Motorcycle shops notori-ously aren’t open on Mondays. It was at least two miles to the closest convenience store for food or water. What to do? After a bit our youngest club member Cierra Reynolds (Youngest rider award) came rushing over, gushing that there was a couple over there who had two motorcycles on a trailer behind their motorhome and had offered to unload one and let me ride it home! They would even haul mine home for me! Wow! The

perfect solution! So after meeting Myron & Norma Jo Quapaw for the first time, we unloaded her bike off the trailer, hurriedly bolted the pieces of mine back on enough to make the trip, and loaded it on the trailer. I must admit that I put a large handful of bolts & screws in the toolkit for the ride home on the trailer. As it turned out Myron & Norma Jo had Myron’s bike on the trailer, too, and had sold to a gentleman in Springfield, Missouri. They were to drop it off to him on their way home to northeast Oklaho-ma! Only about 10 miles out of the way for them. Cierra and her dad Marcus rode home with me, and we were only about two hours behind everyone who had left us in St. Paul. Can you imagine? It prompted me to think most of the way home about how hard it would be for me to turn a total stranger loose on my own motorcycle and what kind of people these must be. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. This is exactly what it means to be a member of our great family, and that is exactly what the MOA is! A great big family! So, as our local President of the Springfield BMW Roadriders (#8) I had recently read about the “Helping Hand Award. “What a perfect situation for the award! Then I realized that the NE Oklahoma club had their rally coming up soon, and I began to hatch a plan...I needed to get in touch with the NE Oklahoma club Presi-dent, thinking it could add a bit to their award ceremony and would be a great way to honor the Quapaw’s for their kindness in front of their home club. My thinking was that I could tell a brief synopsis of the situation, and then have Randy Eggert present the Quapaw’s with their award dur-ing their awards ceremony. However, logistics began to interfere with my best laid plan. Bob Aldridge (Executive Director of the MOA) was more than enthusiastic and promised to send out the award that day to the Quapaw’s
home. NO, NO Bob this is to be a surprise given to them at their rally, it can’t be sent to their home. Norma Jo turned out to be the treasurer and also the one who picked up the club mail. So much for sending it to the club’s address. In the end I was able to get in touch with Randy Eggert (president of the NE Oklahoma club) who gave me his home address. I relayed that to Bob, who promptly sent the award. At the Indian Nations Rally, it could have not worked out better! My Dad, Wayne Foster, won the oldest rider award (Again, he says he’s got enough of them by now to wallpaper a room!) Norma Jo grabbed the microphone from Randy and began to tell the story of helping this man’s son! Oh no, it’s not supposed to go like this! Realizing what was happening Randy quickly pulled the microphone away from her, and said “Norma, we don’t have time for this right now.” Well, Norma being Norma, this really irked all 5’-1” of her, and she went stomp-ing off with rainclouds over her head! She returned however when Randy called me up to tell the story. When we presented Myron and Norma with their award, Norma had tears in her eyes and both arms around me. Myron and I are both Vietnam vets, and, in typical Myron fashion, he shook my hand and quietly said, “We take care of our own don’t we?” So, the moral of this story is that next time someone asks, “Why should I join the MOA?” instead of giving the stock answers like the anonymous book, or the Owners News, or likeminded individuals…though these certainly are wor-thy reasons…just pause for a moment...look them in the eye and tell them they are joining a family who cares.

manager in Joplin since the store was purchased in October
of 2005. Richard started to work in October 2011 as a
counter and warehouseman. While Steve and Richard have
enjoyed their time at Weldon Parts they feel it is time to do
a little relaxing and a lot of fishing. They both appreciate the
time spent at Weldon’s and have enjoyed being a part of

The Nebraska Christmas Party was held December 6th at the
Ramanda in in Columbus, Ne. “We found this a good central
point for all of the Northern Stores to meet up at. The weather
was typical Nebraska weather "cold and overcast". We had a
very good attendance of 37 employees, spouses, and friends.
Missing were one each from Norfolk and Omaha and three from
North Bend. Grand Island had perfect attendance The night was
a simple one with food, friendship, and fun. The die cast Wel-
don trucks were a very nice surprise and we understand that
Bryan is to thank for creating and obtaining them. A special
thank you to Amy Settles (OKC) for her continuing special gift to
everybody of the homemade breads and candied treats. This is
a fantastic company tradition that has been carried on from
Alledee Settles, Leon's wife. We from Nebraska would like to
thank Weldon Parts for their generosity, caring,
and employment. Thank you all for treating us like a big family.”

White Chicken Chili 1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced into 1/2-inch pieces
1 small yellow onion, diced 1 tbsp. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely minced 2 (14.5 oz) cans chicken broth 1 (4 oz) can diced green chilies
1 1/2 tsp cumin 3/4 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp dried oregano 1/2 tsp ground coriander 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1 (8 oz) pkg Neufchatel cheese, cut into 12 slices (aka light cream
cheese) 1 1/4 cup fresh corn (frozen works too)
2 (15 oz) cans cannellini beans, drained and rinsed 1 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
chopped fresh cilantro, for serving shredded Monterrey Jack cheese, for serving
tortilla chips, for serving (optional)
Heat olive oil in a 6 quart enameled Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once oil is hot add
chicken and diced onion and sauté until chicken is no longer pink, about 6 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 30 seconds longer. Add chicken broth, green chilies, cumin, paprika, oregano,
coriander, cayenne pepper and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring mixture just to a boil then reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
Add Neufchatel cheese and stir until nearly melted (it will break down in little bits and will appear to look like separated cheese but it will eventually melt). Stir in corn, and 1 can of
Cannellini beans, then process 3/4 of the remaining beans along with 1/4 cup broth from the soup in a food processor until pureed, add bean mixture to soup along with remaining 1/4
can of beans (you can skip the pureeing step and just add the beans directly to soup, the soup just won't be quite as creamy). Simmer about 15 minutes longer. Mix in fresh lime juice and serve with Monterrey Jack cheese, chopped cilantro and tortilla chips for dipping if desired.
4 Rib eye (rib) pork chops, bone-in, about 3/4-inch thick
Salt and pepper
3 tablespoons butter, divided
2 apples, peeled (optional), cored and thinly sliced
1 large white onion, halved and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Pinch ground cayenne pepper
2/3 cup apple cider
1/3 cup heavy cream
Generously season the chops with salt and pepper on both sides. Set aside. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Immediately
add the pork chops and cook until brown, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate
and set aside. Let chops rest for 3 minutes. Return the skillet to medium-high heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Immediately
add the apples and onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent,
about 5 minutes. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon and cayenne. Stir in the apple
cider and cream. Add the pork chops, nestling them into the liquid, and cook until the
internal temperature of the pork reaches between 145 degrees F. (medium rare), with a
3-minute rest, and 160 degrees F. (medium), 3 to 4 minutes per side.
Serve the chops with the apple mixture spooned on top

Spicy Pretzels Pour oil and spices into a gallon Ziploc bag. Seal and shake to evenly combine oil with spices
Add in pretzels, seal up Ziploc bag, and gently shake to combine.
There are 2 different ways you can finish the pretzels: OPTION 1: you can leave them in the Ziploc bag and allow pretzels to soak up the seasoned oil for
at least 6 hours, or ideally for 24 hours. Turn bag to shake up pretzels every few hours. OPTION 2: bake the oil soaked pretzels in a 200 degree oven for about 1 hour, stirring several
times to ensure even baking. Allow to cool before eating.
Pretzels will keep in an airtight container for 3 weeks.
You will need: 16 oz (1 lb.) bag tiny twist pretzels
3/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
1 tsp lemon pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1-packet of Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch

I hate it when the voices in my head go silent. I never know what they're planning.
Every time I drink a cup of coffee, I show the empty cup to the I.T. guy, and
tell him I've successfully installed Java. He hates me.
Remember way back when we had to go dig out a camera, take a picture,
then go to the photomat to get the film developed, wait for it to come back and THEN we could take those pictures around to show all our friends what
we had for supper?
All of us have watched cats licking themselves and we say "Aww, Kitty is
taking a bath." Maybe it isn't about being clean at all. What if they just like to be covered in cat spit?
The things that come to those who wait may be all that is left over by those
who got there first.

THE EMERGING PANDEMIC OF SUTH SYNDROME AND CRD
A Clinical Study of Disease Progression and Treatment Methodology
SUTH syndrome and CRD are two forms of a very serious disease that affects millions of people worldwide. Many affected with this
terrible disease are often unaware that they have it, and most often, afflicted people refuse to accept that they have this condition.
Afflicted people affect the lives of everyone around them, so everyone should be aware of this condition.
SUTH syndrome or CR has been classified as a psycho-social disease. Symptoms of this dreadful disease may include signs that the
afflicted patient has delusions of grandeur, self-righteousness, unwarranted feelings of superiority, arrogance, or even the belief that
they are more important or that the world revolves around them. Symptoms also may manifest in various forms of flagrant stupidity.
There are many other symptoms that can manifest, but, these listed are the most common and most easily recognizable.
In its earliest forms, this condition is known as SUTH syndrome. In some cases, in the SUTH stage, the disease can be cured if treat-
ment is administered frequently and repeatedly. SUTH syndrome is named for the most common treatment, called appropriately
“SUTH therapy”. It is difficult to diagnose in a clinical setting, because onset of symptoms or flare-ups most often occur in public.
However, the effects are obvious, and usually even the most inexperienced layperson or clinician can correctly identify the symptoms.
If someone is in need of a SMACK UPSIDE THE HEAD, it will be obvious, and treatment must be administered quickly and liberally.
Delays in administration of treatment following an attack may reduce the effectiveness of treatment, and the progression and re-
sistance of the disease may be reinforced, causing accelerated metastasis into the more severe form.
Side effects to the provider of the treatment can include mirth, disgust, or revulsion, but these side effects are temporary. These side
effects can return unexpectedly, even after several years without an occurrence, especially when the provider is relating a narration of administration of treatment to another person, such as a friend, legal officer, or health care provider. Most often, in the patient, side
effects can induce mild feelings of anger or embarrassment. In a rare few, the treatment side effects can be so severe that it causes
involuntary muscle spasms, usually in the form of unpleasant and sometimes violent physical actions or verbalizations directed toward
the provider of treatment. Therefore, caution should be used when administering this treatment, and the provider should be pre-
pared to duck or quickly vacate the immediate area. Studies seem to indicate that intervention is most effective when the patient is
completely unaware that treatment is about to be administered.
For advanced cases, when the full onset of Cranial Rectosis (commonly called “having [his] head up [his] ass”) is reached, there is no
cure. The only known effective treatment for the disease at this stage is a radically advanced form of smacking one upside the head.
This advanced form most often involves a smack upside the head using a large heavy object. Research has shown that heavy hard-
bound books are the most effective treatment aids. However, in an emergency situation, a fist will suffice, although, the effects are
more temporary, and the symptoms will return. Extreme cases MUST be referred to a licensed psychologist that specializes in treat-
ment of anti-social behaviors and neuroses, as psycho-surgical intervention may be required to minimize the debilitating effects of the
disease’s natural progression. Some medications may also be effective treatments; unfortunately, they haven’t been discovered yet.

Empty Fields by Dave Earnest
Simple things in Life
I was sitting on my front porch one evening,
watching the sunset; The sky and clouds changed colors so many times.
The next evening I watched the rain fall so gently on the leaves and on the big
oak trees, the blue birds were making a nest in a box I had put up and the red
birds were eating out of the bird feeder I put up. I also looked at the American
flag I put out on a flag pole. All of these things are so simple. We see these
things every day in life with our eyes.
It was at this time I closed my eyes and the thought came to me: What if I was
blind? So if you can see with your own eyes, the simple things in life. Count your
blessings.

Metal bleachers fall into shadow
as the sun descends to the horizon.
Now only memories of the season can be imagined
and the resounding echoes of cheers are no longer heard.
The bases have all been gathered,
bats and gloves are put away for the winter
and the baselines will soon be obscured with snow.
The plaques of dedication will remain until next year’s sunlight
and the scoreboards will sit idle.
The dugouts will be absent of orders shouted by coaches
and the field will be vacant for these many months
of winter’s bitter kiss.
At Christmas youngsters will be given a glove,
or a bat... and they will yearn for the return of the season treasured
in the golden sunlight for mere moments of greatness
when the metal bleachers will once again
hold the hopes of parents and fans…
and are no longer vacant accepting the cold shadows.
Lights will shine once again above the field
and bugs will swarm at the light
while players toil in the summer heat
using those Christmas gifts
to become adults…

The thriller movie Hours starring the late Paul Walker, sets off in New Orleans just before
Hurricane Katrina hits. His pregnant wife gives birth prematurely and later dies in surgery
and her baby is in critical condition. The baby has to be
kept in a neonatal incubator. When the hurricane strikes,
all the power goes out and everyone in the hospital leaves.
But the baby's father stays because the baby can't be
moved so he has to take care of his baby by making sure
the ventilator stays on. And because there's no power, the
only power source is generator that he has to crank every
few minutes. This movie was a pretty good movie. Paul
Walker never ceased to amaze me with his acting skills.
This film keeps you on your toes every 5 minutes at least.
It is a must see.

“The Wolf of Wall Street”
In The Wolf of Wall Street DiCaprio plays Belfort, a Long Island penny
stockbroker who served 36 months in prison for defrauding investors in a
massive 1990s securities scam that involved widespread corruption on
Wall Street and in the corporate banking world, including shoe designer
Steve Madden. I wasn’t too fond of this movie at all. I kept pausing it
getting distracted with other things, but just could not get into this. Some
say it was supposed to be funny, but the drug scenes were way too drawn
out for me. I wouldn’t recommend anyone wasting their time on this film.
Everyone has their own opinion though. :)
