Woden Master Plan Main messages from Stage 1 Engagement:

• Improvement in parking, traffic and congestion

• Pedestrian and cycle connectivity

• Good facilities exist, but generally underutilised due to poor connections, lack of green spaces and poor public domain amenity

• The centre requires more vibrancy and activation, particularly after-hours and on weekends

• Generally good support for high-density, mixed use (but should contribute to public realm)

• Mixed views on:

Building heights

Future of the Athllon Drive corridor

Residential development in the Phillip service trades area

Mawson Master Plan Main messages from Stage 1 Engagement:

• The centre provides convenient shopping

• Looks tired, untidy and dated

• Public realm needs improvement

• Safety and night time lighting needs improvement

• General support for more residential and mixed-use development (outside of core)

What is the purpose of the master plans ?

Guide the growth and development of the centres over time.

Identify the land use, economic, social and environmental opportunities and challenges.

Investigate opportunities for residential development to support public transport, including the rapid public transport route along Athllon Drive.

Strategies that can help to guide growth and development over the long term

Key strategies include:

• New planning controls to inform the Territory Plan

• More activity for the streets and public spaces

• Improvements to cycle and pedestrian connections

• Short and long term parking management

• Simplifying planning controls in the Phillip service trades area to encourage residential development

• Residential development close to bus stops, including sections along Athllon Drive.

Key strategies include:

• Increased building heights in some parts of the centre to encourage mixed-use development

• ‘Marker buildings’ at key locations

• Allowing for an additional second supermarket in the long term

• Establishment of the centre as a public transport hub close to Athllon Drive

• Improvements to cycle and pedestrian connections

• Improvements to the public domain

• Management of parking to maintain the centre’s convenience and accessibility.

1. Come back to WVCC in March

2. Community feedback will be

considered in the preparation of the

final master plans.

3. A new community engagement

report will be prepared and made

available.

4. Once finalised, the master plans will

be given statutory effect through

the establishment of a Precinct
