DESINARE is an old-fashioned Florentine term for that time of day

when the family would gather around the table to eat.

It refers not just to the act of dining but to the ritual of conviviality,

the need to take a break from work to talk, exchange ideas, renew

the bonds of love that have long been at the heart of our domestic

culture.

Inspired by this concept, we wanted to create a place that was

open to food in thebroadest, most all-encompassing sense of

the term: not just a source of pleasure and sustenance, but a

repository of knowledge, ideas and emotions.

Tim Blanks, is one of the most influential journalists in

the fashion sector: Editor-at-Large of Style.com, with

his distinctive and punchy style Tim Blanks doesn’t

simply talk about fashion, he analyses it as a “cultural

phenomenon. Born in New Zealand, Tim started work

for the TV show Fashion File in 1985, where he stayed

as a guest for 17 years dispensing style advice, and

writing and recording the first video-interviews from

the shows. In 2010, he collaborated on the creation

of the book Twenty Years of Dolce&Gabbana,an

anthology that covered the twenty years of the

fashion house.Affable, jovial and encyclopaedically

informed on almost everything, Tim is, impressively

given his role as a show critic, always on good terms

with everyone in the industry. Tim has written for the

industry’s most significant titles, including Vogue,

GQ, The Financial Times, Interview, Fantastic Man

and Arena Homme Plus. Tim’s preeminent position in

fashion journalism was recognized at the 2013 CFDA

Awards, where he was awarded the Media Award in

honour of Eugenia Sheppard, the premier industry

award for fashion journalism.

Art History Lecture with Rocky Ruggiero

Rocky Ruggiero is originally from Providence, RI. He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross where he majored in Art History and

Pre- Medicine. In 1995 he was awarded a Florence Fellow¬ship by Syracuse University where he continued his art historical studies at a

graduate level. He has lived in Florence for the past twelve years teaching for various American universities including Syracuse, Kent.

St., Vanderbilt and Boston College. Prof. Rug¬giero specializes in Early Renaissance Architecture, although he has lectured on subjects

ranging from ancient art and architecture through the Italian Baroque. He starred in the recent History Channel series, Engineering an

Empire: Da Vinci World episode as an expert witness, as well as a PBS program on the architecture of Brunelleschi. He also shares his

knowledge and love of Florentine art as an advisory board member of the non-profit group Friends of Florence which has raised funds for

the restoration of various works of art throughout the city.
