Taleah TyrellJunior. Biomathematics; History; Pre-Law; Honors.

Office-related ExperienceWinning Senator 2014–2015. Senate Parliamentarian 2014–2015. SA Executive Vice President 2015–2016. Adventist Intercollegiate Association (AIA) Parliamentarian 2015–2016.

Goals and Plans for OfficeFor the 2016–2017 year, I hope to build an exceptional SA team that not only works well together, but also continues to improve the campus as a whole with their diverse areas of expertise. I plan on being a liaison between the student body and administration, expressing our needs, ideas and concerns, never settling for mediocrity. Often times, we believe that student-led movements amount to nothing. This year, however, with the Cafeteria Transparency Bill, Andre Gym Bill, and even the REVO Bill, I learned that student-led movements are not only welcomed at PUC, but they are also expected! I hope to continue advocating for student leadership, encouraging students at PUC to strive for the causes they believe in.

Fun Fact About Yourself I was born in Paraguay.

Favorite Inspirational Quote "The noblest search is the search for excellence." — Lyndon B. Johnson

Future GoalsI hope to graduate, work, and go to law school. Ultimately, I'd love to be a judge, get married and raise some mini me's.

Leadership Inspiration Abraham Lincoln's genius ability to meld a team of rivals together who focused on a united goal inspires me.

AJ MahinayJunior. English; Pre-Law.

Office-related ExperienceDebate Club President 2015–2016; Debate Club Social Vice-President/Secretary 2014–2015. Newton Dorm Chaplain 2014–2015.

Goals and Plans for OfficeSpur a movement of student involvement on and off campus. My goal is to focus on SA events that are tailored towards all types of students (athletes, scholars, gamers, artists, musicians, etc.). I plan to create events where students can get involved with schools in the local community, help those who are less fortunate (homeless ministries), and establish “WalknTalks” where students of all classes can get to know one another. I want students to be informed about all situations on campus (tithe use, events, updates, goals, plans), and this can be achieved by working directly with the PR team, as well as the SA team as a whole. I also plan on doing this through face-to-face communication with the students of PUC. If a student has a concern, I want to respond not only with words, but also with action leading to a campus of voice. I want to provide students with opportunities that will enhance participation and involvement, resulting in student growth. On and off-campus involvement will result in positive effects on students of PUC.

Fun Fact About Yourself I like eating quesadillas with ketchup. I love to do spoken word/rap. I dislike drinking cold water. I have named all my pets after foods (Apple-dog, Cookie-dog, Reeses-dog). I haven’t been in relationship since my senior year in high school.

Favorite Inspirational Quote “Show me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” — Benjamin Franklin

Future GoalsTo become a trial attorney, with the goals of becoming a partner for a law firm. I want to be able to be the voice for those voiceless, representing individuals who don’t have the power to represent themselves.

Leadership Inspiration Many great leaders have inspired me. One influential leaders in my life was Ivan Ostrovsky, former SA president my freshman year (2013–2014). He was active in the lives of all students. He was always involved with student growth, and he wore a smile that was experienced by all. Another leader that inspires me is Moises (Moi) Ramirez. He has one of the biggest hearts. He has a heart that is always willing to serve others with no expectations of receiving anything in return. He always wants to get people involved, and no matter what stumps his plans and/or goals, he continues to persist on.

Stephanie De MelJunior. Psychology.

Office-related ExperienceI have served as an Andre senator for the last year.

Goals and Plans for OfficeMy biggest goal is to make sure that every student on our campus knows what senate is and that their opinions can implement change. I want this campus to be a school that encourages students to speak their minds as well as make each student feel comfortable to share their opinions. Another big goal I have is to make sure that all of the senators elected for next year are willing and dedicated to represent the students and make a difference on our campus, no matter how much work or research they may have to put into it.

Fun Fact About Yourself I have had braces five different times.

Favorite Inspirational Quote "Sometimes it is the people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.” — Alan Turing

Future GoalsGet married, adopt a couple kids, become a cardiothoracic surgeon and live happily ever after.

Favorite Senate Bill Passed This YearThe Andre Gym Bill because it's going to make a healthy lifestyle much easier to attain for the women of PUC.

Gerry FailanoJunior. History, Political Science, Ethics; Pre-Law.

Office-related ExperienceI've served as a Quasi Senator my freshman year, Senator At-Large my sophomore and currently my junior year, as well as being the President pro-Tempore of SA Senate and Chairman of the Senate Affairs Committee. I've also had the privilege of serving on a few clubs for the past 3 years here on campus as the Vice-President of the Debate and Pre-Law Society, the President of the Pre-Law Society, and Treasurer of the Hawaii Club.

Goals and Plans for OfficeA few plans and goals that I have are to create better and more areas for students to study. Often I've heard that certain buildings are closed early or that places on campus are not of a studying environment for students; that's what I plan on addressing. I also want to work closely with the future senate to bring fresh and new ideas that will help to address issues here on campus, and continue to build on the progress that has been made this year, by bringing more student involvement with senate.

Fun Fact About Yourself House of Cards fan; love food; traveling; from Maui, HI.

Favorite Inspirational Quote "Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow." – Mark Twain

Future GoalsMy goal one day is to run for public office, travel throughout Europe and Asia; but before all that, pay off my college debt.

Favorite Senate Bill Passed This YearThat would have to be my Senate Public Relations Bill, because it has brought more awareness about senate to the student body, the ideas and issues at hand here on campus, and gives a whole new face of what senate can do for students.

Gabriel RiojasJunior. Theology.

Office-related ExperienceAfter being a part of internships at local church communities and working as an Assistant-Dean in Denmark, I have learned that creativity dies without proper organization and execution. I have planned a variety of events from Friday vespers to Bibles studies to camp meeting music to an alternative Sabbath church service for students. I have been exposed to a variety of challenges that are crucial for a RVP candidate: organization, creativity, leadership and networking. I have assembled a team from a variety of leaders on campus that also excels in those capabilities. My weaknesses are their strengths. I strongly believe that not one individual can be prepared for the totality of the RVP office. However, with the help of strong leaders with experience in previous RVP teams and other school leadership roles our combined experience will accomplish realistic goals.

Goals and Plans for OfficeMy primary goal is to create a spiritual atmosphere on campus that is relevant and engaging to students that are thinking critically about issues that intersect faith and the world they live in. My team and I know that spirituality is a very personal experience and we cannot guarantee a great or life-changing encounter. That is an individual choice. What my team and I can accomplish and improve on are factors that play an important role to genuine spiritual growth.

A few of my specific goals and plans include: Create an organized vespers service that is no more than 50 to 60 minutes

long. Your time is valuable especially on a Friday! We want to respect that. Vespers shouldn’t be a time to countdown the clock it should be a thought-provoking and worshipful experience.

Create a set time for soundcheck. Soundcheck has had a recurring problem since I have attended PUC. Inconsistent times create stress for musicians, sound people and the RVP. We want to eliminate that by having a consistent time you can expect. It’s very frustrating to show up as a musician or sound person and either the church is locked or you’re left waiting. Like vespers, we want the preparation process to be respectful of your time, not wasting it.

Empowering student-led spiritual communities. As a student and theology major you quickly realize that PUC is a diverse and unique campus. Spirituality is difficult to categorize into a box. Some might view it as a weakness but I view it as a strength. My team comes from unique experiences but we know they don’t begin to fully express campus spirituality. Whether you're Hindu, Christian, non-religious, etc., we want you to be in space where there is a venue for genuine spiritual community. We crave innovative suggestions to jump-start spiritual communities. If

you have a passion, organization and a goal let us know. Networking and money shouldn’t get in the way of unique spiritual events. We want to make your ideas into reality.

An organized office. Although some of these ideas sound relevant we actually want to accomplish them. This requires extensive planning and commitment. My team and I strongly believe that successful creativity starts with successful organization. We plan to have the majority of the RVP elements like vespers scheduled in the summer to better facilitate innovation during the school year. That means everything from sound people to speakers to music to food. If you plan on voting for me than I want to get logistics out of the way to better focus on your spiritual needs.

Fun Fact About Yourself I love tea. Like loose-leaf tea black, green, red, white, etc. Making a pot of tea is so relaxing and drinking it is soothing especially when the weather is cold!

Favorite Inspirational Quote “Reason is always a region carved our of the irrational – not sheltered from the irrational at all, but traversed by it and only defined by a particular kind of relationship among irrational factors. Underneath all reason lies delirium and drift.” – Deleuze

Future GoalsI want to work for the Adventist Church as a minister, teacher, chaplain, etc. I would like to continue my travels and live in Africa or Asia for a season. Obtaining my doctorate in theology is one of my most desired goals.

Dream Vespers SpeakerOooh that’s a tough one. If it were just for me it would be the German theologian Jurgen Moltmann or Adventist theologian Fritz Guy. However, I’m a nerd and I’m pretty sure I would be one of the only people to enjoy it. So I think for most of our sake someone like Eboo Patel or Francis Chan would be fantastic for PUC!

Gabe is currently abroad in Denmark, working as an Assistant Dean.

Fun Fact About Yourself I was voted most likely to become a thug at his Christian college while in high school.

Favorite Inspirational Quote "Even if your life is full of tears and sorrow, this world is still a beautiful place. Open your eyes and see it for yourself. Do what you want to do. Be who you want to be. Find friends to share the good and the bad with you. Enjoy life. Don't be in a hurry to grow up." — Clannad

Katie SchmidtSuper Senior. B.F.A. in Graphic Design; Spanish.

Office-related ExperienceI want to create a yearbook that is a work of art, something that students will want to keep well beyond this year alone. Since all of us are self-documented via social media, my goal is to represent student life at PUC through a lens that students have not seen before. I plan to change the arrangement and content of the book; use strong, stylized photography; and emphasize design and the overall experience of the book.

Future GoalsAfter I graduate, I want to work as a designer abroad. Cities like London and Berlin have great design, but I'm not picky.
