  • Welcome to the 2016 Carmel Lacrosse season!

The 2015 season provided another trip to the State Finals and a State Championship win! In 2015 we celebrated with a talented bunch of seniors, with many of them leaving Carmel High School to continue playing lacrosse at college both at the NCAA and club level. While the program celebrated success again last year, we continue to focus on supporting sustainable success.

Sustainable success looks over a period of time to determine the accomplishments of the club. It looks at the organization as a whole to determine if we have met our short- and long-term goals. In order to have sustain-able success we need to look at the clubs entire body of work, over a period of time.

Coach Tom Coons is starting his sixth season with the club. In each of the previous years the varsity team under his leadership has been to the state finals, winning the title in four of those five years. At the end of the season the team was ranked third in the Midwest. The program continues to mature and provide opportunities for its athletes. This year there were seven seniors who signed National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play varsity lacrosse in college next year. The club continues to reap the benefits of its long-term stability by welcoming alumni to the coaching staff, both at the high school and Carmel Dads’ Club levels. The program continues to develop and strive for excellence, while getting recognition at the Midwest and National levels.

We feel it’s safe to say that the club is more than a moment in time; we have established a program that has achieved sustainable success. While time will be the ultimate measure, to get to where we are today requires a lot of effort by many different people in many different roles. We would like to sincerely thank our coaches, alumni, managers, fans, and more importantly our parent volunteers. Without the help and support of the parents, the boys would have a difficult time showcasing their talents and teamwork as our parents are integral in being able to host games and field a team for each contest.

We additionally would like to recognize the Carmel Dads’ Club (CDC). The CDC lacrosse program has been key in starting the training and development of our players since their first season in the spring of 2004. Without the preparation of these athletes at the elementary age, it would have been much harder to advance the skills of the 25-30 new players we get each season from the CDC program.

Thank you to all of our supporters. Being a club sport, Carmel Lacrosse receives no outside funding. It is the generosity of the advertisers and sponsors listed in this program that help our parents make the teams possible. Please show your support of these businesses by utilizing their goods or services.

Finally, we would like to thank Carmel High School. Last year the high school provided us a new home for the la-crosse program to host games, and their continued support this year and moving forward will soon include a new facility at Murray Stadium. We are honored to represent the city of Carmel and Carmel High School.

    Go Hounds!

Men’s lacrosse is a contact game played by ten players: a goalkeeper, three defensemen, three midfielders and three attackmen. The object of the game is to shoot the ball into the opponent’s goal. The team scoring the most goals wins.

    • Each team must keep at least four players, including the goalie, in its defensive half of the field and three in its offensive half Three players (midfielders) may roam the entire field.

    • Generally, high school games are 48 minutes long, with 12 minute quarters. Each team is given a two minute break between the first and second quarters, and the third and fourth quarters. Half-time is 10 minutes long.

    • Teams change sides between periods. Each team is permitted two time-outs each half. The team winning the coin toss chooses the end of the field it wants to defend first.

    • Men’s lacrosse begins with a face-off. The ball is placed between the sticks of two squatting players at the center of the field. The official blows the whistle to begin play. Each face-off player tries to control the ball. The players in the wing areas can release; the other players must wait until one player has gained possession of the ball or the ball has crossed the goal line.

    • Center face-offs are also used after a goal and at the start of each quarter.

    • Players may run with the ball in the crosse, pass and catch the ball. Only the goalkeeper may touch the ball with his hands.

    • A player may gain possession of the ball by dislodging it from an opponent’s crosse with a stick check, which includes the controlled poking and slapping of the stick and gloved hands of the player in possession of the ball.

    • Body checking is permitted if the opponent has the ball. However, all contact must occur from the front or side, above the waist and below the shoulders. An opponent’s crosse may also be stick checked if it is within five yards of a loose ball or ball in the air.

    • If the ball or a player in possession of the ball goes out of bounds, the other team is awarded possession of the ball. If the ball goes out of bounds after an unsuccessful shot on goal, the player nearest to the ball when and where it goes out of bounds is awarded possession.
