Best Practice – I

Title of the Practice : Dr. Ambedkar Vichar Vedike (Forum)

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is a great thinker and an architect of modern India. His

role in drafting the constitution of India is well known but important and lesser

known facts and useful thoughts are hidden in his books and speeches.

The is meant to propagate the ideas of Dr. Ambedkar. Many guest lectures,

academic and cultural events are conducted throughout the year under the Forum.

It aims to imbibe the spirit of social justice among the students which awakes

them to fight against all kinds of exploitations. It also provides them the best

platform to exhibit their talents and skills.

inequalities.

3. The Context : The dreams of Dr. Ambedkar are not fulfilled even after seven decades of

section of the society are being exploited now and then. And our region is

no exception for this practice. As a result many evil incidents are taking

place in the society. Thus they have become a big hindrance on the way of

India to be a developed country. Considering these sensitive issues the

Buddhist. religions had come on one stage.

II. The second Sarva Dharma Samellana was held “The Role of Religions

in Protecting Secularism” on 29.03.20016

There is a remarkable evidence of success in the performance against

targets in its evolution of Dr. Ambedkar Vichar Vedike. Earlier the

competitions were confined only to the city colleges. Later it was extended

to the colleges of Gulbarga district then to the colleges of Gulbarga

Revenue division.

A positive response from the students to the functions and

competitions of Dr. Ambedkar Vichara Vedike(Forum) indicates an

acceptance and implementation of the ideas and dreams of Dr. Ambedkar.

6. Problems Encountered and Resource required to implement the practice

We need a reasonable financial aid to organize state and national level

seminars and divisional level competitions under Dr. Ambedkar Vichara

Vedike(Forum). So far we have not received any financial aid either from

government or from any N.G.O’s.We sent proposals to get financial aid to the

Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi. We haven’t got any financial aid so far.

In this respect we have approached the government and the N.G.O’s to get

financial assistance.

The Vedike wishes to bring the personalities who must be well versed on

Buddha, Basava and Dr. Ambedkar Philosophy, life and practice. But the forum

is encountering the non-availability genuine resource persons.

SECOND BEST PRACTICE

1. Title of the Practice : Various Coaching Classes

In order to bridge the gap between the knowledge of the previous and

present courses. the bridge courses are conducted. To enhance oral and

writing skills of students English Grammar and Spoken Classes are held. To

update the students to the present needs Computer Basic Classes are taken.

To help and enable students to get through the competitive examinations

successfully, Coaching Classes are organized.

2. Goal:

Performance of many students in P.U. examination (10+2) who seek

admission at our institution usually not up to the mark. Most of the students

who take admission in our college are from rural and semi-urban areas. And

most of them belong to SC, ST and OBC communities. The students with

such poor educational background do struggle to fair well with the rest of the

students. For such students, Bridge Courses in Languages, social sciences and

commerce subjects are conducted at the beginning of the academic year.

The aim of computer classes is to strengthen computer literacy and

expertise among the students. It is the need of the hour that every student

should be computer expert to be successful in his/her career particularly in

Job Market.

Government & Private sectors make call for appointment every year.

The institution provides an opportunity through coaching classes for

competitive exams to the students to enter into service before completing the

degree.

3. The Context:Bridge courses are conducted in Languages, social science subjects and

Revised Guidelines of IQAC and submission of AQAR Page 44

Page 45: 2016-17.doc  · Web viewEstd : 1982 Ph. : 08472-223106. Karnataka People’s Education Society’s. Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce and P.G. Centre. Darga Road, Kalaburagi

commerce subjects. The students whose performance is poor at P.U. level are

identified at the time of admission. They are bridged to the degree courses

through special classes in above said subjects. The classes are held at the

beginning of the academic year.

Some of the students who admit to the degree course, get through P.U.

level (10+2) without opting English as one of their languages. Developing the

English language skills among students has become an important part of

education system in India. And half of the students who admit to the degree

courses at our institution will not opt English as one of their languages at 11

and 12th classes. For these two reasons Spoken English and English Grammar

classes are conducted.

Computer literacy has become the essential part of the present education

system. Most of the students have the same problem as they have in English.

In order to overcome this problem the institution conducts computer basic

classes for First year B.A. & B.com students.

The institution through its coaching cell conducts coaching classes for

competitive examinations. (under U.G.C. Entry into service scheme). This has

helped a great deal to the students to absorb in government and private

services.

4. The Practice:

Various coaching classes such as bridge-course, English-Grammar and

English spoken classes and coaching classes for several competitive

examinations have their own unique place and significance in Higher Education.

The practice helps the students for their overall development of the personality.

This practice complementary to the curricular , co-curricular and extra-curricular

activities of the education system.

Page 46: 2016-17.doc  · Web viewEstd : 1982 Ph. : 08472-223106. Karnataka People’s Education Society’s. Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce and P.G. Centre. Darga Road, Kalaburagi

Bridge courses are conducted at the beginning of the academic year.

The competent and qualified guest faculty is appointed for the task. According to

the time table classes are held and the task is completed in time. The practice

helps the students to a great extent to compensate their lack of previous

knowledge. The students who undergo the bridge courses now can excel in the

present course. The implementation of the practice helps the students to

overcome from inferiority complex. The course has its own limitation in terms of

the resource persons and timings.

Government and Private sectors expect from the candidates who apply

for the service or jobs should be competent in English language. The candidates

wishing to serve in these organizations should be better at listening, speaking,

writing and reading skills in English language. They conduct oral interview or

written tests to the students to select the able candidates to serve in their

organizations.

Students with English Knowledge have greater opportunity for English

being global language. As English is a foreign language needs a scientific and

systematic training in its persuasion of structure and diction. We are offering

English Grammar Certificate course and conducting spoken English classes. We

have invited experts from in and outside the city such as Yashaswini Academy

from Hyderbad, Veta-Spoken English from Gulbarga and other individual

experts working in the field. The management is doing its best in enhancing

competency of English Language among the students. We are preparing the

students to meet requirements of the entrepreneurs.

Computer literacy has become the part and parcel of present education

policy. There is no future for the students without computer knowledge. The

institution has a computer lab. An expert computer teacher is appointed for the

task. He regularly engages theory and practical classes. We have M.O.U. with

CADMAX Kalaburagi to which Final year B.Com. Students are sent to learn

higher programmes. They have under gone the programmes like Tally, M.S.

Office and Word.

Competitive examinations have their own criteria to gaze the knowledge

of the candidates. They test the Mental Ability, Mental Aptitude, General

Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Science, Art, Culture, History, Economics,

Geography and Indian Polity. The classes require specialists and experts in each

subject. Non availability of the competent human resource is one of the difficult

tasks of the competitive coaching classes. We are in touch with the competitive

coaching academies run in Kalaburagi. We are bringing the best possible subject

experts within and outside the city. We have conducted coaching classes for

S.D.A, FDA, Banking Exams, SLET, NET, DEP, B.Ed, KAS and Police

Constable Examinations. Number of students have attended and have become

successful in getting jobs.

5. Evidence of Success:

The review of results of various coaching classes has brought about a

great change in the temperament of the students. It has made a greater impact in

the overall development of the students. The various coaching classes have

helped and laid down a sound foundation to the students for their bright and

promising career. It has paved a way to them in achieving their higher aims and

ambitions in life.

Bridge course and Remedial classes - 30% of the newly admitted students undergo Bridge Course every

year. - Another 10% of the students undergo Remedial Classes.

English Grammar & Spoken Classes

- 100 students of first semester of B.A. & B.Com. students are given opportunity to attend English grammar classes.

6. Problems Encountered and Resource Required. Two major problems that are encountered by the institution are

generating financial resources, non-availability of skilled resource persons and

scarcity of time to conduct classes.

Financial resources of the institution are inadequate to meet out the

demands of the resource persons. The professional skilled resource persons

demand very high remuneration, particularly the experts from Hyderabad and

Bangalore.

Some of the resource persons within the city are incompetent to teach

some subjects. The subjects like mental ability, psychology, criminology and

pedagogy need the specialized resource persons. Such resource persons are

invited from Dharwad, Bangalore and Hyderbad.

Time management is another problem in implementing the practice

successfully. The girls who come to college from the village (some 40 to 50 km)

have to return their homes before dusk is the first problem. The boys who stay at

hostels have to get their lunch and return to college on foot in time is the second

problem. Some other students who go for part-time jobs is another obstacle in

finding the suitable time to run the practice smoothly.

Most of the students of this region, including our students, suffer from lack of

confidence, and inferiority complex. When we initiated coaching classes and

certificate courses, we witnessed wide spread resistance and rigidity to accept

and enroll.

Majority of our students come from rural areas economically and socially

backward classes, of which many of them are not career oriented. This attitude

poses several questions against us as to how to take them along to carry on our

activities.
