SCIENCE

AP Biology*AP BIOL 26.01407*AP Biology is a college-level course designed to challenge junior or senior level students toextend their knowledge of biological theory and processes beyond the level of introductoryscience classes. The primary emphasis in AP Biology is placed on understanding concepts ratherthan memorizing terms and technical details. The course is based on four “Big Ideas,” whichencompass core scientific principles, theories, and processes: biological evolution, cellularprocesses: energy and communication, genetics and information transfer, and ecology andinteractions. The laboratory component of the course consists of 12 laboratories with specificobjectives produced by the AP Biology Development Committee to provide a standard.Students are required to take the AP exam administered in May. Students will explore theseconcepts through an inquiry approach and with a biblical perspective.Prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry

Anatomy and Physiology*ANAT 26.07307*The Human Anatomy and Physiology course is a laboratory science course and is designed tocontinue student investigations that began in grades K-8 and high school biology. This courseintegrates the study of the structures and functions of the human body, however rather thanfocusing on distinct anatomical and physiological systems (respiratory, nervous, etc.) instructionfocuses on the essential requirements for life. Areas of study include organization of the body;protection, support and movement; providing internal coordination and regulation; processingand transporting; and reproduction, growth and development. Chemistry is integratedthroughout anatomy. Careers related to medicine, research, health-care and modern medicaltechnology are emphasized whenever possible. Case studies concerning diseases, disorders andailments (i.e. real-life applications) are emphasized.

BiologyBIOL 26.01207Biology is a laboratory science course that investigates the relationship between structure and functionfrom molecules to organisms and systems, as well as the interdependence and interactions of biotic andabiotic components of the environment. Students explore biological concepts through an inquiryapproach and with a biblical perspective. A basic understanding in this subject allows the Christian togain a better perspective of the complexity, harmony, and order God employs in His creation. Goodscientific thinking mirrors good Biblical thinking. In this class, these thinking and analytical skills will bedeveloped, studied, and evaluated.

Chemistry*CHEM 40.05107*Chemistry is a laboratory science course that investigates the fundamental concepts of physicalchemistry. Topics include but are not limited to: matter, atomic structure and bonding, molecular structure and properties, physical and chemical changes, behavior of gases, stoichiometry, solution chemistry, acids and bases, and chemical formulas and equations.Students will explore these concepts through an inquiry approach and with a biblicalperspective. A basic understanding in this subject allows the Christian to gain a betterperspective of the complexity, harmony, and order God employs in His creation. Good scientificthinking mirrors good Biblical thinking. In this class, laboratory procedures, classification andmeasurement skills, predicting outcomes, and applications of chemistry in daily life will beemphasized.Pre-requisite: Algebra I

Environmental ScienceENV SCI 26.06117The Environmental Science course is a laboratory science course, and is designed to extendstudent investigations that began in grades K-8. The curriculum is extensively performance, laband field based. It integrates the study of many components of our environment, including thehuman impact on our planet. Instruction focuses on student data collection and analysis. Someconcepts are global; in those cases, interpretation of global data sets from scientific sources isstrongly recommended. Resources on the Internet for global data sets and interactive modelsare utilized. Chemistry, physics, mathematical, and technological concepts are integratedthroughout the course. Whenever possible, careers related to environmental science areemphasized.

Physics*PHY 40.08107*In this laboratory science course, students will be exploring and studying the science of physics, which is considered the “fundamental science”. The science of physics attempts to understandin detail how everything in the universe interacts with everything else. This course will focusmore on students exploring, developing, and applying concepts rather than strict mathematicalcomputation. Although this course is conceptual in its framework, students will be expected toperform some algebraic computations to further enhance their conceptual understanding.
