June 7, 2016 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Mary Clancy Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship Coordinator 515-432-3882 [email protected] Iowa 4-H Foundation Recognizes 4-H’ers across the State Over $70,000 in 2016 Iowa 4-H scholarships were awarded to 4-H members Ames, Iowa –The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced the recipients of over 70 Iowa 4-H college scholarships valued at almost $70,000. Recipients accepted their awards on Sunday, June 5 at the Foundation’s Scholarship Reception held in the Scheman Building at Iowa State University. Over 500 applications were submitted. Award recipients hail from 33 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences. Scholarship applications were evaluated based on the applicant’s 4-H participation, academic accomplishments, goals and future plans, financial need as well as other criteria established by the Iowa 4-H Foundation and the scholarship donors. “Every year, we are in awe of the ways these young people make their communities a better place,” said Albert Grunenwald, Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director. “We are thankful to have donors who want to acknowledge the students’ hard work and invest in 4-H’ers who will continue to change the world regardless of where they go to school or what they study.” This year, the Northwest Iowa 4-H Scholarship was added to award to one male and one female incoming freshman, from Northwest Iowa counties, who planned to attend University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa, Iowa State University or any post-secondary school in those counties. This $1,000 scholarship is provided by the proceeds from Iowa 4-H Foundation’s Northwest Iowa Golf Tournament. In addition to the traditional scholarship program, the Iowa 4-H Foundation partners with Hills Bank and Trust Company to provide a unique opportunity; the Hills Bank Leadership Program Grant Awards. Each year, Hills Bank & Trust contributes $20,000 to the Iowa 4-H Foundation to award a $1,000 scholarship to 20 high school juniors. These students are selected to participate in the program, complete a year of leadership training and receive the scholarship upon graduation. Iowa 4-H Foundation Recognizes 4-H’ers across the State Over $70,000 in 2016 Iowa 4-H scholarships were awarded to 4-H members
