The email bulletin is key to driving close to $800K annual revenue in school and events registrations. Why Email Marketing? It generates more sales‐ready leads, at lower costs; the return on investment is much higher than with other forms of marketing. (Hubspot) 60% of companies using email marketing in 2015 are increasing their email marketing budget. Email conversion rates are three times higher than social media, with a 17% higher value sale (McKinsey & Co.) MailChimpprovidesprofessionally‐designed2‐columntemplatesthataremobile‐responsive.WithConstantContact,theonlytemplatesthataremobile‐responsivearesingle‐column,whichcanbeboringforfull‐screendisplays.

MailChimp’sintegrationofGoogleTranslateallowsnewsletterstobedisplayedinotherlanguages.However,thetranslatedversionisonlyavailablewhenaccessingthewebversionofanewsletter(aversioninwhichlinksarenottrackable).

MailChimp’sformathastheusereditingblocksinasecondwindow,unlikeConstantContact’ssingleactiveeditingblock.Thattakesabitofgettingusedto.

MailChimp’slisthandling/segmentationmakessenseandisfairlyintuitive.Itrecommendsavoidingmultipleemaillistsandtheresultinginefficienciesthatcomefrommaintainingcontactliststhatoverlap.Thisforcesyoutorethinkandoptimizeyourmasterlist(s)–painfulbutworththetrouble,intheend.(IfoundConstantContact’slistmanagementtobeoverlycomplicatedandextremelyslowtothepointofbeingunusable.)

Intermsofreliabilityandresponsivenessofthesoftware,I’dratethetwoascomparable,withMailChimpwinningintheareaofresponsiveness,especiallywhenworkingwithlists.MailChimpdoes,however,requiresometimesexitingthecampaignandre‐enteringinordertoforcearefreshoftheeditingwindow.ConstantContactdoes,veryoccasionally,hangwithintheeditor.

ConstantContacthasmajor,longstanding,unresolvedissuesinthereliabilityofthepaymentsideofitseventregistrationsoftware.ThisaloneisareasonthatsomeclientsmayopttodroptheirConstantContactaccounts.WelikedthatwecouldimmediatelylinkourConstantContacteventmarketingtoourmerchantserviceviaAuthorize.netgateway,butthewholesolutionisnotworkableifthepaymentprocessinglinkhasafailurerateof10%whenexchangingdatabetweenConstantContactandpaymentgateways.
