•To preserve historical uses, rights of way, and waterfront views;

• To help foster the development of Newport, RI's shoreline and harbor front areas in ways that maximize public access

•All volunteers-no paid staff

•Volunteer hours are estimated in the million of dollars!

•Same membership dues as charged in l982

•Raised and spent well in excess of $50,000 to help pay for Newport public access issues

•Organized 32 years of annual waterfront inspection cruises for members

•Identified, and registered with CRMC, 23 waterfront ROWS in Newport

•Created and provided 2 historical informational kiosks at waterfront parks

•Over 25 years for Earth Day clean up by FOW volunteers at King Park

•City approved FOW signs to help mark public access ways along the Newport waterfront

•Worked with City to establish a park in memory of FOW founder Mary Ferrazzoli

•Help fund maps and surveys of Newport ROWs through URI Sea Grant

•Negotiated some public access over private properties for Harbor Walk

•Provided 6 waterfront benches at 2 mini parks on the Harbor Walk

•Negotiated mistake by CRMC—no rebuilding of shed in ROW at Waites Wharf allowed

•Helped the RI Attorney General set a legal precedent for RI public access at Scotts Wharf

•5 dinghy planters created as a waterfront beautification project to help mark ROWS

The Waterfront has always unified Newport- Friends of the Waterfront working to keep it that way!
