I’d like to invite you to Arizona State University’s West campus this fall to experience our vibrant campus community through our extraordinary arts and culture event series that features world- renowned arsts, thinkers, and scholars, as well as our genuinely talented faculty and students. We have excing programming planned, including our fall signature event featuring Ernest Cline, author of Ready Player One; Steven Spielberg is direcng a film, scheduled for release next year, based on this award-winning novel. Faculty and students will be opening three gallery exhibits in ArtSpace West showcasing their work in sound and contemporary visual art; Second Stage West will host three theater producons, including one act plays directed and performed by our students; and ASU Gammage’s BEYOND arsts will make three guest appearances to campus. Come dance the night away at our Salsa-Salsa event in celebraon of Hispanic Heritage Month, or join us as we welcome over 1,000 community members to campus for the 16th annual Nave American Pow-Wow. The event is free, family-friendly and open to the public. Law Enforcement will be on hand to take reports and gather informaon and idenfiers (DNA, medical records, fingerprints, photographs, etc.) from families of missing persons. Families are encouraged to bring medical and dental records of their missing loved ones. A support group will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m. for family members with a missing loved one. Kim to arscally study the current state of the Internet and how it is changing human behavior. They will study the phenomena of “why cats rule the internet” as a vehicle in studying how the Internet’s original funcon has transformed over me. scratch will include video, sculpture, and performances by IAP students to create an immersive environment based on performave events and the remnants, residue, tracks, and trails they leave behind. Barry Moon: 2020 Opening Reception, Tue., Sept. 6 @ 7:00 p.m. ArtSpace West

IAP faculty Barry Moon uses objects, images and sounds to exploreimpacts of current technologies on our cognition. In 2020, roboticinstruments converse with a video table game scored according tospeed and accuracy of repetition. Players’ successes/failures areamplified via video and audio. IAP student Garrett Burnett assists withthe audio component.

Two professors have left their homeland for a war-zone. They were there on a mission of peace, but peace is hard to find when you are chained to a radiator. This is a surprising, entertaining and thought-provoking one-act play by award-winning Arab-American Yussef El Guindi. A co-production with iTheatre Collaborative, this play isdirected by IAP faculty Charles St. Clair. Tickets are $5 for general,seniors and students.

2016 is the 100th year anniversary of the ever influential movementknown as DADA. Founded in the frigid, mountainous city of Zurich, Switzerland, as a protest against World War I, DADA is the original interdisciplinary, intercultural artistic, political, social movement that influenced surrealism, expressionism, neo-dada, punk and anyonewho has ever made a collage or randomly edited or sampled a digitaltext. Students and faculty from the Interdisciplinary Arts andPerformance program contribute new interdisciplinary artwork inresponse to DADA for this annual installation curated by IAPfaculty Arthur Sabatini and Patricia Clark.
