With seven full weeks of camp options, it’s easy to design a summer

just right for your child. The summer kicks off with the new POP! Goes

the Science followed by two weeks full of the wonder of Harry Potter®

Camp, followed by a week of Super Science Sampler. Three weeks of

Summer Discovery Camps wrap up the summer in July, with experiences

designed to nurture creativity, teamwork, and kids’ interest in science.

have a grave exception, please call 937.275.7431, ext. 148. Please note that once approved, all registration changes will be

assessed a $25 administrative fee.

• The Boonshoft Museum reserves the right to cancel any camps not reaching the minimum attendance; participants will be

notified one week prior to the camp run date. Campers will be transferred to another camp of their choice at no additional fee.

If no suitable sessions are available, a full refund will be issued.

Online registration for Summer Camps at the Boonshoft Museum begins on March 14, 2016 for Members

and March 21, 2016 for Non-Members. Please visit BoonshoftMuseum.org to register your camper today!

1. Visit BoonshoftMuseum.org to select your child’s camp experience.

2. Click the corresponding link to open the registration page.

3. Complete the online form in its entirety, including the Classes, Camper,

Parent/Guarding, and Billing Section then click “submit”.

Tip: Be sure to use a valid email address, as your camper’s Check-In Fast

Pass and links to required forms will be sent to you via email.

4. Check your email for a link to print out your camper’s

Check-In Fast Pass and links to required forms. Forms are

due two weeks prior to the first day of your child’s camp.

If your child’s forms are not completed, they cannot

attend camp. No Exceptions. Scan and email forms to

SummerCamps@BoonshoftMuseum.org or fax to 937.275.5213. Please

print out or digitally save your camper’s Check-In Fast Pass to be scanned

on the first day of camp. This will allow for faster check in times and

enable Summer Camp staff ample time to meet and greet your camper.

SUPER SCIENCE SAMPLER

Pop! Goes the Science (June 6 – 10) 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Ages 5 – 12 years

This summer the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will go where it’s never gone before with Pop! Goes the Science,

a week-long celebration of pop-culture. From aliens to action-packed stunts, super heroes to space travel, this

unique camp allows participants to experience it all. Designed to inspire and challenge children through five exciting

exploration sessions, campers get ready for an exciting science-centric summer in this STEM-based camp.

Games & ToysExperience hands-on gaming in a new light. Explore how

video games are developed. Tear into toys to find out what

makes them tick, design and create your own toy figure,

and venture through large scale board games that won’t

leave you bored.

SuperheroesDo you want to fly like Superman? Shoot webs

like Spiderman? Call down lightning like Storm?

Explore the powers of super heroes from our favorite

movies and comic books. Experiment with the

elements, mutations and the gadgetry superheroes

use to save the day!

Creature CabinetLet your imagination soar in the Creature Cabinet. Dragons,

pocket monsters and aliens…Oh My! This session is fiction

brought to life. Discover the mysteries of creatures from

some of your favorite movies and television shows.

Fiction & FantasyThrilling stories from faraway places! Take a fantastic

voyage to mystic lands where tales of bravery and

exploration abound. In Fiction & Fantasy campers will

discover the science behind time travel, space flight

and so much more.

FXDuring Pop! Goes the Science, campers are

challenged mentally and physically. FX classes

will demonstrate what it’s like to be a Hollywood

stunt-person. Avoid the walking dead as you

run the Terra-Terror Course, and learn how to

stage an exciting—but safe—fight scene!

From the moment you’re sorted beneath our enchanted ceiling and join your house you will believe that Hogwarts has been brought to life...

Harry Potter Camp, Week 1 June 13 - 17 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Ages 9 - 12 years Harry Potter Camp: The Cave of Immortals (First Years)In Harry Potter and the Cave of Immortals “time is out of joint.” The Wizarding world is on the brink of chaos and strange

happenings are afoot at Hogwarts’ Summer Session. Join with other members of your house to set it right. Professors Snape,

McGonagall, Lupin, and more will lead campers through Potions, Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures, Defense Against the

Dark Arts, and a full array of other magical classes. Each student will earn wizard gold to shop at Diagon Alley, receive an

official Harry Potter Camp Certificate of Completion, and T-shirt during a graduation ceremony at the end of camp.

Harry Potter Camp, Week 2 June 20 - 248:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Ages 10 - 14 years Harry Potter Camp: Rise of the Dark Phoenix (Second and Third Years) Harry Potter and the Rise of the Dark Phoenix marks the second part of a trilogy that will conclude in our 10th Anniversary

summer. Six years after the events of The Deathly Hallows, Count Callisto, Voldemort’s chosen successor to lead the

Death-Eaters, has taken control of Hogwarts. He wants to personally oversee the training of a powerful dark wizard known

as the Dark Phoenix. This young wizard is the heir apparent to Voldemort and is destined to bring the Death-Eaters back to

their former glory. Professors Sprout, Starbuck, McGonagall, and more will be on hand to help campers prepare for battle.

Experience all of the magic of your first or second year with lots of new classes, characters, twists, and turns designed to

test your magical skills. Each student will receive a Second or Third Year Certificate of Completion and T-shirt during a

graduation ceremony at the end of camp.

ChemistryEnter the laboratory and concoct some fun! Campers

will measure, pour, observe and become awestruck over

reactions and changes they produce with hands-on

experiments. The week will end with fiery demonstrations

and explosive encounters.

Environmental ScienceCampers explore the clouds above and the water

below as they engage in programming in our

Science On a Sphere® exhibit. Science comes to life

as campers explore the pond and 17 acres of natural

area surrounding the museum. Campers learn about

environments long gone as they explore the world

around us.

BiologyMeet some of our most popular Discovery Zoo animal

residents, investigate fruit flies under microscopes,

dissect owl pellets, and learn the language of life through

DNA extraction.

PhysicsFind out why matter matters while investigating

magnetism, motion and electricity of all sorts.

Observe the world with lenses and prisms, and

find how light allows us to see beyond the stars!

Science RouletteEvery day is a new adventure in Science Roulette.

The topic of the day will be decided by the spin

of a wheel. Astronomy, material sciences, forensics

and more! It’s all on the wheel and up to chance.

This year the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will offer an all-new summer camp experience with Super Science

Sampler. Campers join together in science adventures as they delve into creative problem solving, technology, and

scientific and engineering processes. Designed to inspire and challenge children through five exciting exploration

sessions, campers prepare for an exciting science-centric future in this STEM-based camp.

Get lost in Destination: Adventure, learn how to find your way, and survive

when you get there! Navigate your way through this interactive experience

and explore how the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) works, test materials

for building shelter and basic tools, and become invisible to modern

technology as you travel off the grid.

The LEGO Challenge (AM: Ages 5-7; PM: Ages 8-10)

Thrills abound at every turn as campers take up the LEGO Challenge!

Follow a trail of clues hidden in and around the Boonshoft Museum of

Discovery to gather the pieces for your ultimate creation. Journey through

this interactive experience into the awesome world of LEGO.

Star Wars (AM: Ages 8-11; PM: Ages 6-8)

Is your young freedom fighter ready to join the Resistance? It all starts

with an understanding of the galaxy around them! Learn about starships,

strategies, and droids at this interactive science camp. But beware!

The New Order has plans for galactic domination.

Wild Kratts (AM: Ages 7-8; PM: Ages 5-6)

Time to put your creature suits on Kratts Kids! Earn creature disks

as we travel through different animal habitats from around the globe.

But watch out! We may have to save a few animals on our adventures!

Campers will be introduced to animals from the Boonshoft’s Discovery Zoo

such as the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, the American River Otter,

and the Bat Eared Fox.

Zookeeping 101 (PM: Ages 9-14)

Campers explore the health and care of the most adorable residents

at the Boonshoft Museum. Focus on the various scientific disciplines

involved in animal husbandry including biology, nutrition, medicine,

training, and exhibit design. Campers join museum staff for an interactive

look at how the Museum’s Live Animals Department cares for the

150 animals in their collection. And the best part: each child receives

hands-on opportunities with the animals!

Week One: July 11-15

Discovery Camp: Week One 9

Destination: Adventure (Ages 11-14)

Grossology (AM: Ages 5-7; PM: Ages 8-10)

Do you want to have the coolest and grossest summer vacation ever? You

and your fellow campers will gross each other out with the Boonshoft’s most

disgusting experiments. Explore the bodily functions that are considered

“rude” and “not polite,” and get up close with slimy and creepy critters.

Lights, Camera, Action! The As Seen on TV Edition (Full day session, Ages 11-14)

Become a titan of the industry in this exciting build-it-from-the-ground-up

experience. Create, develop and test your product. When it’s ready for the

consumer, then it’s time to produce, write, direct and film a commercial to

show the world why your item is better than the competition!

Outdoor Explore (AM: Ages 8-11; PM: Ages 5-7)

Experience the great outdoors in a unique way when creativity and science

merge together. Learn “life-hacks” to better thrive in the wild: discover cooking

without a stove, explore a way to produce electrical energy with objects found in

your pocket, and construct a sturdy and stable shelter.

Robo Lab (AM: Ages 8-11; PM: Ages 5-7)

Robots are taking over summer vacation at the Boonshoft! Robo Lab is a

great place to get started on your robot education. Campers learn basic

build techniques and try their hand at simple programming tasks. Teams will

be faced with challenges designed for fun in the bold world of robots.

Zookeeping 101 (PM: Ages 9-14)

Campers explore the health and care of the most adorable residents at the

Boonshoft Museum. Focus on the various scientific disciplines involved in animal

10 Discovery Camp: Week Two

Set to Be a Vet (Grades 1-3)Calling all animal lovers! Critter-curious campers will learn how to care for the little creatures we all love. Grooming, playing, feeding, and training are all a part of this fun and exciting animal adventure.

Vet Science (Grades 4-6)Future veterinarians learn about animal care and enjoy unique, hands-on experiences in basic veterinary skills. Campers learn about animal anatomy, how to read an x-ray, plan a healthy diet, implement training---even hear first-hand stories while visiting with a professional veterinarian.

Return to the Vault (Grades 4-6)An ancient secret, a baffling code and a nefarious adversary who will stop at nothing… Return to the Vault features a new mystery, new adventures, and new thrills that incorporate STEM learning opportuni-ties. Are you prepared for what comes next? The Vault is open; the Darkness has escaped!

Zookeeping (Grades 4-6)Professional Zoo Keepers are scientists who are committed to provid-ing the best care possible to the animals. Explore biology, nutrition, medicine, training, and exhibit design and learn how our Live Animal Department cares for the 150 animals in our zoo.

Advanced Zookeeping (PM: Ages 9-14)

Build on skills learned in Zookeeping 101 camp! Join professional zookeepers

in caring for animals in the Discovery Zoo as you care for your assigned

animal during the week. Campers will assist with real conservation programs,

develop and prepare diets, research and create enrichment and training

plans, assist with exhibit/habitat improvement, and learn to handle animals.

Prerequisite: Zookeeping 101

Crazy Cool Science (AM: Ages 5-7; PM: Ages 8-10)

Grab your goggles and enter the lab where creations in chemistry are made.

Measure, pour and mix your way to Crazy, Cool Science! - Concoctions that

spark, stink, ooze and go boom. Real science…real fun!

Crime Scene Casebook (Full day session, Ages 11-14)

A horrific crime has been committed and the Boonshoft’s Special Investigation

Unit needs your help! In Crime Scene Casebook, campers will get a chance

to play the role of crime scene investigators. From analyzing evidence to

questioning suspects, participants will get a firsthand look at how fictional

and real life detectives use forensics to solve crimes.

DI Why Not? (AM: Ages 6-8; PM: Ages 8-11)

Discover a whole new world waiting to be built. Using common household items,

take on architectural challenges from basic build structures to big rig projects.

Construct an “Infinity Gauntlet” and create a working flashlight. This is hands-on

summer fun!

Scooby Doo (AM: Ages 6-8; PM: Ages 5-7)

Mystery Inc., the Boonshoft Museum’s cool mystery crew, is back. Campers will

use their crime-busting, spook-chasing talents to solve an all-new big summer

mystery. Someone or something is scaring people away from the museum and

it’s up to Mystery Inc. to figure out why!
