Letter From Our President
Dear Friends of the CNM Dual Credit Program,
Central New Mexico Community College is very pleased to provide New Mexico high school students with the opportunity to take tuition-free, college-level courses while still in high school, allowing students and their families to save significant time and money on a college education.
CNM Dual Credit classes allow students to meet one of the state’s high school graduation requirements, earn credits toward an associate degree or certificate, and simultaneously secure both high school and college credit. For every three credits earned at the college, one elective credit is earned at the high school. A few high schools have aligned curriculum with the New Mexico Public Education Department to enable students to earn core high school credit for courses taken at CNM. For example, Albuquerque Public Schools awards core high school credit to students who take CNM’s New Mexico History (HIST 2260) and College Algebra (Math 1315) courses. East Mountain High School awards core English credit to students who take CNM’s English 1101. These CNM credits, and many others, transfer to public universities in New Mexico, a great advantage for students pursuing bachelor’s degrees.
Beginning in their sophomore year, Dual Credit high school students enjoy the same benefits as all other CNM students, including access to our award-winning student support services such as tutoring, academic coaches, the libraries, free city bus passes and much more.
As they graduate from high school, many Dual Credit students have accumulated two years’ worth of college credits on their transcript without paying a dollar in tuition. The program is a game-changer for so many New Mexico families, who can save thousands of dollars on a college education for their children.
CNM’s Dual Credit program is three times as large as any other institution offering dual credit in the state, and it continues to grow as more New Mexico families learn about its tremendous value, both in cost savings and student success. Data shows that CNM Dual Credit students have higher rates of success when they continue on their college journey after high school graduation.
In fall 2010, there were 1,262 high school students taking CNM Dual Credit classes. In fall 2015, there was an all-time high of 3,064 participating students. Overall, more than 30,000 New Mexico high school students have taken CNM college-level courses since the inception of the Dual Credit program.
I hope you’ll take some time to browse through this Dual Credit Annual Report and learn more about our Dual Credit program, which is helping so many New Mexico families save money while giving students an important jump start on a college education.
Thanks for your support of Dual Credit at CNM.
Sincerely,
Dr. Katharine W. WinogradPresident, Central New Mexico Community College

Advantages
• High school and college credit are earned simultaneously for each Dual Credit course a student completes with a passing grade.
• When high school students enroll in college courses through CNM’s Dual Credit program, the registration fees and tuition are waived – only course fees, supply fees, and uniform expenses may apply to certain courses.
• Students get to explore their career interests and gain a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in college.
• Students can complete a college certificate or degree more quickly and affordably with the Dual Credit program. Between the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic school years, 88 students graduated from high school with both a diploma and an associate’s degree or certificate. In some instances, some high school students earned more than one college award.
• High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from public, private, and home schools can participate.
• CNM Dual Credit students can take courses at any CNM campus, through distance learning, or at their high school locations.

“We love CNM. It is the most affordable option for students, and as school administrators, we want students to get a college degree with minimal student debt. When high school students take Dual Credit courses, they are building a good foundation and learning what the expectations of college life are like; and they do this at no cost.”
—Patrick Arguelles, Principal, Career Enrichment Center
“Some students, at the beginning of the semester, may have hesitations or are nervous about their courses,
but as the semester progresses, it is rewarding to see their confidence develop. I would recommend CNM’s Dual Credit
program because it is an opportunity for students to experience college level courses while they are
still in their comfort zone of high school.”

Making Money Work/FIN 1010 is a distance learning Dual Credit course that introduces high school students to important financial terminology and concepts. The curriculum
is designed to give students real-life skills that will enable them to become financially responsible adults as they move on to college and into their professional careers. The course is offered at the high school location, taught by CNM faculty, and
facilitated by high school teachers or other qualified staff members.
In the 2014-2016 school years, 47 schools across the state offered the Making Money Work course to their students.
Dual Credit Annual Report
“I took FIN 1010 because I wanted to learn more about how to handle money since I didn’t have that
much experience yet. I definitely think more high school students should take advantage of this course because it is good to learn about these things before
you go to college and are on your own. The online environment of the course is simple and easy
to understand.”

Seven More Reasons Why CNM’s Dual Credit Program is the Smart Choice for High School Students • Students choose from an amazing range of CNM classes and programs to develop skills, explore interests, stimulate
the imagination, and expand creativity. Explore the CNM catalog and take any college-level course, except fitness (FITT) classes.
• Lessens the time to obtain a certificate or degree in many areas where jobs are plentiful, such as health care and computer information systems.
• Arts & Sciences courses transfer seamlessly to UNM, NMSU and other state schools and reduce the time and cost of obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
• Students enjoy full access to all CNM services, including computer labs, libraries, tutoring services, academic coaches, achievement coaches, and activity clubs.
• Meets one of the state’s high school graduation requirements.• Saves money and time on travel; many classes can be taken online or at a CNM campus close to home. • CNM also offers a Dual Credit in the High School Program with more than 54 high schools across the state participating in
the 2014-1016 school years.
To participate in CNM’s Dual Credit Program, high school students must:• Be enrolled at their home high school at least half time.• Show that they have met course prerequisites by submitting ACT or SAT scores at a CNM Admission Office or by
taking CNM’s Accuplacer Assessment to test for college-level course placement.• Take CNM courses numbered 1000 or higher; however, fitness (FITT) courses are excluded from the Dual Credit program.• Take courses for a letter grade; Dual Credit students cannot audit CNM courses.
