Welcome to the Central Coast Conservatorium’s 2016 Concert Season Two. Again, I am delighted that the Conservatorium will present yet another wonderfully varied program of genres, classical through to contemporary, in the second half of this year. Season Two boasts many exciting concerts including a number of major events such as the return of the Crossroads Festival now presented by Charmian Gadd

& Friends and the annual Australian/New Zealand Viola Festival run by the Australian New Zealand Viola Society in association with the Central Coast Conservatorium. These two events will be of great interest for classical music lovers on the Coast and will feature wonderful collaborations of international, national and local artists at the Conservatorium and its associated venues. The festivals will draw audiences nationally and from overseas so I would urge you to book early for these events so you will not be disappointed. This year we have also included affiliated community ensembles in our concert calendars, making the calendars truly comprehensive with regard to programming of the performing arts scene on the Central Coast. This is incredibly important and will hopefully garner even greater support for community driven inspiration and artistry. Season Two certainly has something for everyone and our focus on featuring international, national and local artists as well as our student population, the artists of the future, remains of paramount importance. It gives me great pleasure to invite you, your family and friends to the Conservatorium and its associated venues throughout the coming months to partake in these wonderful performances. Again, I encourage you to challenge your musical palate by watching concerts outside your comfort zone. Variety is the spice of life, and music truly is an aural feast. I hope you experience as much delight in these concerts as I will.

We are also delighted to welcome back Erin Helyard, our proudly local international harpsichord virtuoso, as well as the Concertante Ensemble with Karina Hollands, Charmian Gadd and Friends, and soprano Angela Brewer.

Barber’s eff ervescent Overture to the School for Scandal frolics along, a convincing complement to Sheridan’s comedy of manners, containing plenty of wit and amorous intrigue. Kodaly’s Hary Janos (John Hary) is a teller of tall tales, including the time he defeated Napolean’s army singlehandedly. Kodaly’s suite begins with a musical sneeze so, according to ancient Hungarian superstition, it must be true! No tall tales from our concerto competitors though – sheer talent and skill.
