The event will showcase an equine extravaganza, battle of the breeds, clinics and seminars with Johnathan Field, Connie Dorsch and Lyn Ringrose-Moe, and WCVM semi-nars and demonstrations. Come by our booth!

Sam comes to us from Manitoba. With a social science degree and more than 10 years experience working with youth, Sam is passionate about health and helping people. She is excited to join the 4-H team and meet the members and leaders of the South East.

20th Annual LotteryThe Saskatchewan 4-H Lottery is back! This year, top priz-es include a custom playhouse, built by students at A.E. Peacock Collegiate, with materials donated by Yara Belle Plaine Inc. Prize may not be exactly how shown.

Other prizes include two iPad Airs, $500 Western Producer advertising vouchers, $500 gift certificates to Peavey Mart, $100 Co-op gift certificates, a leather office chair, a skill saw and a $250 Cabela’s gift card. Tickets are two for $5. The draw will be made on August 24, 2016.

Spring District MeetingsSpring District Meetings have already begun and will con-tinue through until approximately March around the four regions.

Keep your eyes peeled on the 4-H Saskatchewan website under the “Events Calendar” and “Important Documents” for changes to the schedule. A schedule can be found on the last page of this Monthly Update. Alternatively, if you have a date for your Spring District Meeting please let your Regional 4-H Specialist know as soon as possible so the Provincial Office is able to get the communication out. Thanks for the cooperation.

4-H Saskatchewan Partner with Ag in MotionWe’re planning a BRAND NEW Provincial 4-H event, Farm Safety Day.

Watch the next issue of the Bits & Pieces, upcoming Monthly Updates and the 4-H Saskatchewan website for information about 4-H Farm Safety Day 2016 being held Thursday, July 21 at Ag in Motion near Langham.

Farm Safety is an important issue! Plan to bring your friends and family to learn about Farm Safety, 4-H’ers will receive complimentary entry.

Saskatchewan 4-H Finalists Science FairThe finalists of the 4-H Canada Science Fair are coming together March 3 – 6, 2016 at Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in Truro, NS, for the in-person round of the inaugural 4-H Canada Science Fair!

Our young 4-H scientists will have the chance to share their hard work, have their projects judged and compete for an opportunity to attend the Canada-Wide Science Festival in Montreal!

4-H Canada Science Fair finalists will also have a chance to meet with their peers, exchange ideas and take part in activities and workshops that foster their knowledge and interest in Science & Technology. Thanks to our hosting partner, Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus, these 4-H’ers will also have a chance to explore Science & Technology at the post-secondary level and gain insight into the important role Science & Technology plays in agriculture here in Canada.

Camp Registration is OnlineThat’s right, 4-H Saskatchewan summer camp is BACK! Mark your calendars for August 14-19 at Big River Bible Camp, Big River, SK.

The cost is $250 until March 20 and $300 until July 15. We are looking into a possible shuttle being offered from Saskatoon, if there is enough interest. Registration forms are available on the events calendar of the website.

Hockey Night OutJoin us on Saturday, February 6 at 7:05 p.m to watch the Saskatoon Blades take on the Swift Current Broncos.

The Blades would like to invite your group, family and/or friends to SaskTel Centre for a fun evening of hockey. Check the 4-H Saskatchewan website under Events for more information.

Cookbooks are back!

Fundraising with Stars4-H Saskatchewan has partnered with STARS Air Ambulance to offer an exciting new fundraising opportunity for 4-H clubs: selling STARS Calendars.

Clubs that choose to participate will receive STARS Calendars, which they can sell. Each STARS Calendar can be sold for $30, with clubs keeping at least $6 per calendar sold. Depending on the number of total calendars sold by all participating clubs in Saskatchewan by the end of the campaign, this amount could be as much as $9 per calendar. Get involved as an individual, or as an entire club, by creating and doing your own AGtivity. Maybe you’ll host a harvest supper in your community, plan a farm safety workshop or build a community garden – it’s up to your interpretation and creativity – the sky is the limit, so long as it is agriculture related. It’s that simple, spread the word about agriculture. What you do is up to you! This year’s theme is Ag Awareness and Education. The 4-H Staff shared our Milkjug Greenhouse AGtivities in the Winter Bits & Pieces and online to give you some inspiration. We know that you’re creative and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Share your story with all of 4-H Saskatchewan by sending in a write-up and photos to your Regional 4-H Specialist. You can submit as many activities as you would like! You can share online too – use #AGtivities on Facebook and Twitter to connect with others.

All AGtivities will be featured in the Bits & Pieces, and be eligible for the People’s Choice Award to be chosen at AGM in March. All activities must be submitted by March 15, 2016 to be eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

That’s right! 4-H Saskatchewan cookbooks are back. We have Volume 1, 2 and 3 in stock. Volume 4 coming summer 2016.

Saskatchewan 4-H Cookbooks are available for sale, individu-ally or as a great club fundraiser. Clubs can purchase Volume 1, 2 or 3 for $12 each with a minimum order of 20. The recommended selling price is $15 - $20.

North West RegionRegional Updates

Spring District MeetingsPlease report your district meeting date to your Regional 4-H Specialist. Below are the known dates:

District #32 Mar. 8 7:00p.m. Prince Albert- McIntosh Mall

Regional 4-H Curling The North East Regional Curling event was held on January 23, 2016 in Shellbrook. Seven teams braved the weather to compete for the top spots in the Region. In the junior category, District 26 (Tisdale Beef) won gold and District 32 (Wild Rose) won silver. In the senior category, District 32 (Wild Rose) won gold and District 21 (Bar West) won silver. Congratulations to these teams, who will be attending the Provincial Curling event, held at Arcola/Carlyle on February 12-14, 2016. Thank you to District 32 for hosting the North East Regional Curling and all the teams that came out to compete!

Regional 4-H Public SpeakingThis year, North East Regional Public Speaking will be hosted by District 18/19. The tentative date and location is April 10 in Canora. Keep checking back with the monthly update and on the website for more information!

New Opportunity:

Young Horse Clinic

The Young Horse Clinic will tentatively be held on May 7 at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. The cost will be $40 for members and leaders, $50 for 4-H parents and friends. There will be a live demonstration with a young horse, as well as speakers on equine nutrition, equine first aid and a live farrier demonstration. Since it is a demonstra-tion clinic, attendees are not required to bring a horse. Registration deadline is April 18.
