Joining our new Social Networking platforms
Yammer
In addition to JPOSC’s Facebook page dedicated to cover news about advertised JPO and SARC
positions, as well as our closed Facebook group for current JPOs and SARCs and a Twitter account, the
JPOSC has transitioned from TeamWorks to UNDP’s new social networking platform, Yammer.
We would like to thank all of you who already joined the Yammer community. The JPO-Net has now over 150
members and the SARC-Net 30. If you haven’t already done so, please join the correspondent group to ensure you
are kept abreast of the latest news.
JPO-Net for current JPOs administered by JPOSC only.
SARC-Net for current SARCs only.
Please remember that in order to become a members you must use email addresses with corporate extensions.
Members of both groups will be able to follow other groups, as well to share the content throughout them.
JAA-Net LinkedIn Group
JAA-Net is the alumni network for former JPOs/SARCs from all UN organisations. This network is
now administered on LinkedIn instead of TeamWorks.
JPOSC will continue to share weekly job bulletins, training/learning opportunities, information about conferences
and other relevant events. Additionally, we are open to the contributions and suggestions of former JPOs and
SARCs on topics of interest that can be shared. Group members are encouraged to become familiarized with
Yammer and use it to network and engage in discussions with other former fellow JPOs and SARCs!
Etambuyu A. Gundersen from Norway shares her experiences working as the Special Assistant to the UN Resident Coordinator in South Sudan
16 new UNDP and UN Women JPOs participated last June
in the latest PPO Course held in New York and organized by
the team at Integrated Talent Management and JPO Service
Centre.
Participants ranked this workshop with a commendable 5.6
out of 6 overall organization. The 2-week training launched
several new initiatives, featuring a polling App named
“Kahoot” that combines gaming with learning to allow users
to vote on various topics on mobile devices. Participants
also experienced a Virtual Reality story-telling session using
real-life scenarios such as life in a Syrian Refugee Camp
and Ebola recovery in Sierra Leone. For the first time, the PPO
content was also made available to other UN colleagues through
live-streaming learning sessions.
A hearty thank you to all of the participants and best of luck with
your assignments!
What is your motivation for working in the field of development?
I am idealistic. I believe in the work that the United Nations does-
staying and delivering - even in instances when national systems fail.
For me this is the ultimate motivation, to be a part of an organization
that looks out for all mankind from a rights-based perspective.

What was your motivation in becoming a SARC?
I wanted to learn about the UN system as a whole. In my previous job as governance analyst in UNDP Jerusa-
lem, my work was confined to UNDP and the line ministry I engaged with under my portfolio, which was the
ministry of planning. When it was time to move on I realized that perhaps working in the Resident Coordinator’s
office would give me the insight I needed to understand how the UN functions. As both special assistant and
coordination specialist I can confirm that this experience has really been eye opening and rewarding. It has
been a fantastic vantage point from where one understands the different mandates of the UN agencies, the
importance and value of coordination in the process of Delivering as One (DaO). I like to think of coordination
as the engine that keeps the system moving, in terms of programmes, operations and communication.

Newsletter July 2016
The smiling team from the JPO Service Centre This June marked the 15th anniversary for the JPO
Service Centre since it was first established in 2001.
To celebrate this special occasion, the JPOSC held a
team-building retreat on a day of sunshine and clear
blue skies in Copenhagen. The retreat was a great
success and a wonderful opportunity for the team to
celebrate JPOSC’s achievements and reflect on the
highlights of the past 15 years. Here’s to many more
successful years to come!
Marina Storgaard joined the JPO Service Centre in May as a Human Resources As-
sistant in May. Marina will be supporting the HRAs in major HR processes: hires, reas-
signments and separations, and also, processing contract extensions and rental subsi-
dies. Previously, she worked for the World Health Organization for Europe and for the
UNDP Benefits & Entitlements (BES) team in Copenhagen. She holds a Master’s Degree
in Performance Design and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Marketing.
Fernanda Lopez Parrado joined the JPO Service Centre Team in July as a Partner-
ship and Reporting Associate. Fernanda will be supporting the JPOSC outreach and part-
nership activities and the reporting and monitoring of JPO Programme activities. Her activ-
ities will also include maintaining the website, databases and knowledge management
systems and providing translations and editing services. Prior to this assignment Fernanda
worked for UNICEF and UNOPS. She holds a MA in Translation and Interpreting.
To mark the occasion of the JPO Service Centre’s 15th year
anniversary, the centre has released a brochure that highlights
its key achievements, highlights and partnerships developed
since its establishment in 2001.
