Gold Rush Days at Southwest Minnesota StateUniversity is a new student orientation programintended to help you transition to life as aMustang. Over these four days you will have theopportunity to participate in various events that will assist you in navigating the campus,connecting with new and current Mustangs,faculty, staff and the Marshall co mmunity, all while having a blast!

Gold Rush Days is an inclusive program intendedfor all students. First year, transfer, international,domestic, graduate, undergraduate and non-traditional students are welcome andencouraged to participate. No matter how you got to SMSU...

MUSTANG MOVERS: Available from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM! The Mustang Moversconsist of Orientation Leaders, SMSU students, faculty, staff, alumni andmembers of the Marshall community! They’ll help you unload your car andbring it to your room FREE OF CHARGE!

RESIDENT ASSISTANTS: Your Resident Assistant (RA) will be in the lobby of yourresidence hall. They are your guide to living on campus! If you have questionsabout lofting, furniture, or anything else about living in the residence halls, theyare here to help you!

You’ll also notice a number of people with “Ask Me” buttons who arealso there to help answer questions and guide you in the right direction thisweekend and throughout the first few weeks of classes!

Sand Volleyball Tournament Sand VB Courts Sign up for Sand Volleyball before 1:00 p.m. in the Student Center and arrive at the courts by 2:45 p.m. for announcements. Sign up individually or with a team! GOLD RUSH WAVES Grass Lot by Campus Daycare Just look for the inflatables! Cool down with a water slide, slip-n-slide and games!

BEAN BAG TOURNAMENT Central Courtyard East of SMSU Daycare Center/Central Courtyard Toss some bags and have some fun in the Bean Bag Tournament! Sign up with a partner in the Student Center before 1:00 pm.

3:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. STUDENT SUCCESS SESSIONS Activities not your thing? Attend one of these awesome info sessions to learn more about tips for academic success in college or learn about the Mental Health Services available at SMSU! Tips for Academic Success SC 249 Prepare yourself for your 1st semester of college with some helpful tips to help you achieve the academic success you want.

Mental Health Awareness SC 206 Transitioning to college can present some challenges. Find out more about how to deal with those challenges and what resources are here to help you.

6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. SMSU SMOKEFEST & OUTDOOR MOVIE Regional Event Center Come enjoy a BBQ dinner at the 10th

Annual Smokefest – a Minnesota State Championship BBQ Event. Students pay only $5 for a plate with proof of having the Mustang App downloaded/registered. You won’t want to miss this delicious SMSU tradition! Then take in the movie Batman vs. Superman. The movie is showing on the Schwan Regional Event Center field, so bring a blanket!

JOHNNY HOLM BAND The Schwan Regional Event Center Plaza One of the most widely known and traveled bands in America, the Johnny Holm Band is entertaining, lively, and largely impromptu. His legendary style includes some classic rock, some new rock, some country, and some originals. Admission is free and open to the public. Come ready to dance and to have some fun!

SEX SIGNALS SMSU Theatre Sex Signals has become one of the most popular sexual assault prevention programs on college campuses through its unorthodox, humor-facilitated approach to examining our culture, sex, and the core issue of bystander intervention. A 2 person team of highly trained educators take the audience on an interactive, relevant and often hilarious exploration of beliefs, behaviors and gender stereotypes related to dating and sexual interaction.Page 5

When does my Fall Semester bill have to be paid?A: Students must have met the minimum payment criteria by August 1, 2016. Minimum payment criteria can be viewed atwww.SMSU.edu/PaymentPolicy. How do I go about finding a job on campus?A: First, check to see if you have been awarded work-study,which is granted through the FAFSA. You can find your awardletter under the “Financial Aid” tab on e-services. Campus jobopenings for both work-study and regular pay will be posted onour website, then search “student employment.” It is up to you tocontact the departments or areas in which you are interested andask if they have any jobs available.

How do I get paid for the work-study hours I work?A: All student workers are paid via direct deposit. You willreceive a direct deposit every two weeks for the number of hoursworked. Most students work an average of 8-10 hours per weekand get paid $9.50 per hour.

When will the overage from my financial aid becomeavailable?A: All financial aid funds will be applied first to the charges on your account. Any funds remaining will be directly deposited into your bank account (savings or checking) on September 2,2016. If your refund is printed by check, it will be mailed fromSMSU on September 2, 2016. Students are encouraged to fill out the direct deposit form online through e-services.

When should I buy my books?A: The Barnes & Noble Campus Store will be open during GoldRush Days for new students to purchase their books. (Hours onpage 11) Students may rent or purchase new or used books fromthe bookstore, and digital books may be available.

Can I change my meal plan if it is not right for me?A: YES. Meal plan changes for Fall Semester may be made through Monday, September 5, 2016. Meal plan changes forspring semester can be made the last two weeks of fall semesterthrough the first two weeks of spring classes. These requests needto be submitted in writing to the Dining Services Office acrossfrom the Residential Restaurant on the first floor of the StudentCenter.

When do meal plans start?A: Meal plans begin Thursday, August 18, for the evening meal.Meals from your dining plan can be used in the ResidentialRestaurant located in the Student Center. The meal plan week starts on Saturday and runs through Friday. Your meal plan will start over each week. Your meals do not carry over from week to week.

How do I use my Mustang Money?A: Mustang Money can be loaded on your Mustang ID card andused just like CASH to purchase anything at the Barnes & NobleCampus Store, The Mustang Zone, all campus food venuesincluding the restaurant, Coffee House and convenience stores,even snack vending machines. Mustang Money also gets yourlaundry done in the Res Halls, increases your print quota at theTRC and can be used at the Cashier’s Window. Mustang Money isthe easy way to make purchases on campus without carryingcash. For more information or to add more Mustang Money visitwww.smsu.edu/mustangcard.

Are there things to do on campus after Gold Rush Days?A: YES! Gold Rush Days are just the beginning! Different groups will offer programing throughout the year ranging from concerts to game nights to service projects. Your RA will also hostprograms in your Residence Hall, and you’re invited to attendother hall’s programs as well. Don’t be afraid to try somethingnew!

REGISTRATIONFORFALLAlthough many of you have registered for your fall classes, some have not.Information regarding August Registration on Wednesday, August 17, will be mailedto students prior to the program. You will need to RSVP by visitingwww.smsu.edu/go/registration. If you have questions about registration, pleasecontact the Office of Admission at 1-800-642-0684 ext. 6286.

FINANCIALAIDINFORMATIONCheck the status of your financial aid via e-services at www.SMSU.edu.
