2015: MILESTONE YEAR FOR NORTH FLORIDA BASEBALLAtlantic Sun Regular Season Champions

The Ospreys captured their first ever Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship with a league mark of 16-5 (.762), the highest winning percentage against conference foes in the program's D-1 era (2006-present). The title was clinched on the road after a three-game sweep of USC Upstate. The Ospreys last conference crown came in 2005 as members of the Peach Belt Conference.

National AttentionIn the Polls: At the end of the 2015 regular season, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association had the Ospreys ranked No. 30 in the country. North Florida received votes

in two of the final three USA Today Coaches Polls and also garnered votes in Collegiate Baseball's final poll of 2015.

Flashing the LeatherNorth Florida finished 2015 with the second highest fielding percentage in all of Division I college baseball. It is the highest single season team fielding percentage in program history. To go along with the stellar effort in the field, the Ospreys ranked sixth in the country with 63 double plays.

Offensive Prowess: As a team the Ospreys were ranked in the top six nationally in batting average (.312), scoring (7.8 rpg), runs (473) and hits (672). It marked third-straight year North Florida has boasted a team batting average over .300 which included a .316 mark in 2013.

Dewees in Mix for National AwardsOutfielder Donnie Dewees was up for two of college baseball's most prestigious awards, the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, both given annually to the country's top amateur baseball player. Dewees finished fifth out of 21 semifinalists in the final Golden Spikes Award voting.

National Player of the Week Against cross-town rival Jacksonville, catcher Keith Skinner set a new single-game record with nine RBIs on April 19. He hit two home runs including a grand slam to power the Ospreys to a 17-7 victory. He later collected Collegiate Baseball / Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors.

Record Winning Streak(s)The Ospreys set a new program D-1 era record for consecutive wins after stringing together from April 18 to May 16. The team topped their own school mark set earlier in the season when they rattled of 11 in-a-row March 6 -21.

Not One, But Two All-AmericansThe American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Perfect Game, D1Baseball.com, Baseball America, the National Col-legiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Collegiate Baseball all had North Florida outfielder Donnie Dewees and

two-way player Corbin Olmstead listed on their All-America Teams. It is the first time since 2003 the Ospreys had multiple All-Americans.

WinsOnly nine other teams in the entire country had more wins than the Ospreys in 2015. A new D-1 era program record 45 wins. North Florida had the second-highest win improvement (+23) of any team in college baseball, second only to Ohio University (+25).

Laval HonoredIn his fifth season as Head Coach of the Ospreys, Smoke Laval was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year for the first time. He has now garnered Coach of the Year honors in three different conferences (A-Sun, Southland and SEC) in 17 years as a head coach. Earlier in the year, he collected his 600th career win after a 16-7 win over his alma mater, Jacksonville on April 18.

Going, Going GoneDay in and day out, North Florida produced an exciting brand of baseball as the league leader in runs and home runs. The Ospreys ranked 17th in the country as a team with 58 home runs. The long ball total included four instances where Ospreys hit back-to-back shots. Keith Skinner and Donnie Dewees each belted grand slams and the Ospreys were 13-1 when hitting two or more home runs in a game.

Knack for Close GamesA total of 11 of the 16 Osprey losses in 2015 were by one run, including both losses in the Atlantic Sun Tourna-ment. Only two losses in 2015 were decided by three or more runs.

Dewees' Monster Year- The 2nd round pick (47th overall) of the Chicago Cubs put together one of the best offensive seasons in all of college baseball and arguably the best in North Florida history. He became the highest North Florida baseball player drafted since Todd Dunn who was taken 35th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1993.- Playing in 60 games, Dewees led the nation in runs (88), hits (106), slugging percentage (.749) and total bases (188). His .422 batting average was the second highest in the country and in all, ranked in the top-10 in 10 different offensive categories.- Dewees now owns single season school records in hits, runs, triples (8) and total bases. He finished his tenure at North Florida with the highest career batting average (.382) of any player in the program's 28-year history.- For his efforts he was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, the first Osprey to win the award. Earlier in the year, he became the Atlantic Sun's first position player to win the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award four times in one season.

RBI TrioThe 2015 Ospreys featured three of the top RBI producers in the Atlantic Sun. Donnie Dewees, Trent Higgin-bothem and Ryan Roberson ranked second, third and fourth respectively in the A-Sun in RBIs. It marked the first time since 2000 that three Ospreys drove in 60 or more runs in the same season.

Postseason Wrap UpA-Sun Championship Game: Making their third-straight A-Sun Tournament appearance, the Ospreys made it all the way to the A-Sun Championship series. Despite two runs in their final turn at the plate, Lipscomb prevailed, 8-7 to clinch the A-Sun title.

Postseason AccoladesRyan Roberson was one of four players to garner All-Tournament honors. The redshirt senior batted .478 (11-for-23) with two doubles and six RBIs in five postseason games. Dewees, Kyle Brooks and Evan Incinelli were also listed on the All-Tournament Team.

Start for the Ages: Junior Evan Incinelli tossed the program's first, complete game, postseason shutout. He needed just 91 pitches and retired 14 of the first 15 batters en route to 14-0 win over Kennesaw State.

North Florida Baseball - 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Champions -

Raymond “Smoke” Laval became the second head baseball coach in the history of the University of North Florida when he assumed the role on July 1, 2010. The 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year and the program’s all-time leader in Division I wins (165), Laval has managed over 1,000 games during his 17-year head coaching career and enters his sixth season at UNF. In five years, he has twice guided the Ospreys to 40-win seasons, which previously hadn’t been done in the school’s Division I era (2005-present). The 2015 Ospreys won 45 games, only nine other teams in the country had a higher win total. North Florida captured the Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship and reached the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship Series for the first time in school history. The milestone season culminated with No. 30 ranking in the final National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, the highest in the program's D-1 era. The 2015 season was a landmark year for Laval who captured his 600th career win.

Ironically he accomplished the feat in a conference game against his alma mater, Jacksonville on April 18. After the season he was named Coach of the Year by the Atlantic Sun, the third conference to bestow the honor on him (SEC & Southland). Laval continues to attract top tier talent to Harmon Stadium evidenced by the numerous accolades collected by his players. Since 2011, three players have been recognized as National All-Americans (including two first team honorees in 2015) and nine players have been listed on various freshman All-America teams. At the conference level, he has coached 14 All-Conference selections and the program’s first A-Sun Player of the Year, Donnie Dewees in 2015. Dewees heads a collection of Major League Baseball draft picks in the Laval era. After leading the country in four different offensive categories, Dewees was taken in the second round (47th overall) by the Chicago Cubs, the highest UNF draft pick in 22 years. A total of eight players in the Laval era have been taken in the MLB First Year Player Draft. Laval and the Ospreys have made their mark on the national rankings in recent years. His 2015 team was ranked second in the country in fielding percentage (.983) and ranked in the top five in batting average and runs. He has produced two NCAA statistical champions in Drew Weeks (2014 - batting avg.) and Donnie Dewees (2015 - runs, hits & slugging). His 2013 squad was seventh in the nation in batting average and eighth in hits. During the 2012 season the Ospreys made their mark on the national scene under Laval. College Baseball Daily released its Top 25 Mid-Major Poll on March 12 and the North Florida baseball team entered the rankings at No. 23. The Ospreys were 11-4 overall at the time after posting a 4-0 week. After opening the season 1-2, North Florida went 10-2 in its next 12 games. The Ospreys opened the month of March 7-1. The Ospreys won 19-1 at Florida A&M and swept South Alabama to enter into the Mid-Major Poll. Prior to joining the Ospreys, Laval was a Major League Baseball scout for the Toronto Blue Jays (2007-09). Laval served as LSU’s head baseball coach for five seasons (2002-06). In five years at the helm of the LSU program, he guided the Tigers to two College World Series berths (2003 and 2004), two NCAA Super Regional titles, three NCAA Regional championships, one SEC title, two SEC division championships and two Top 10 finishes. Laval, the 2003 SEC Coach of the Year, directed LSU to the best SEC regular-season record during his five-season tenure, posting an 88-60-1 (.594) mark in league games. Senior outfielder Quinn Stewart was named to the 2006 first-team All-SEC squad as he led the league with 23 home runs. Stewart, a fifth-year senior, signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays just prior to the ‘06 Major League Baseball draft. Three LSU players were selected in the draft, including relief pitcher Will Harris (ninth round, Colorado), catcher Matt Liuzza (19th round, Toronto) and pitcher Edgar Ramirez (36th round, New York Mets). The 2006 club also featured several outstanding newcomers, including second baseman J.T. Wise, a Freshman All-America and Freshman All-SEC selection, and outfielder Jarred Bogany, a Freshman All-SEC choice. LSU earned its 17th consecutive final Top 20 ranking in 2005, as the Tigers finished the season No. 18 in both the Baseball America poll and the Sports Weekly/ESPN rankings. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th straight season, recording a 40-22 final overall record. LSU played host to an NCAA Regional tournament for the 16th straight year, competing as a No. 1 seed for the 14th time in 16 seasons. LSU reached the 40-win mark for the 17th consecutive season. Laval directed the Tigers to the 2005 SEC Western Division championship with an 18-12 conference mark. LSU won 13 of its final 17 league games to claim the division title, which was the 13th in school history and the fourth for LSU this decade. Six LSU players were selected in the 2005 Major League Draft, the highest total since eight Tigers were drafted in 2001. The drafted players included a pair of All-Americans – outfielder Ryan Patterson (fourth round, Toronto) and pitcher Greg Smith (sixth round, Arizona). LSU placed 12 players on the 2005 SEC Academic Honor Roll, the highest total in the program's history. Pitcher Jason Determann was named the SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year with a 3.781 gpa in biology. Pitcher Jordan Faircloth received the SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship, and he was named to the SEC Good Works team. LSU's 2005 total home attendance with 36 playing dates was 270,300, the seventh-largest figure in LSU history. The average paid attendance in 2005 was 7,508, which is the third-highest average in LSU annals. Laval guided LSU to its second consecutive final Top 10 ranking in 2004, as the Tigers finished No. 7 in the Baseball America poll and No. 8 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. The final rankings culminated a magnificent 2004 season that also featured

record-breaking marks for academic achievements and attendance figures. The 2004 Tigers advanced to the College World Series for the second straight season, recording a 46-19 overall record, LSU’s best mark since the 2000 club finished 52-17. LSU played host to an NCAA Regional for the 15th straight season, winning the tournament with consecutive victories over Army, Southern Mississippi and College of Charleston. The Tigers then played host to an NCAA Super Regional for the third time in five years, defeating Texas A&M in a best two-of-three series to earn a berth in the CWS. The 2004 Tigers had the best offensive club in the SEC, completing the year with a .333 team batting average, the second-highest in school history. The Tigers were led by two first-team All-SEC players – right fielder Jon Zeringue, the 2004 SEC Co-Player of the Year and a first-team All-America selection, and center fielder J.C. Holt, a third-team All-America choice. Zeringue was selected in the second round of the 2004 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Holt was the third-round pick of the Atlanta Braves. Laval led the 2003 Tigers to the Southeastern Conference title -- LSU’s first since 1997 -- and a berth in the College World Series. He was voted the 2003 SEC Coach of the Year, directing LSU to a 45-22-1 overall record and a 20-9-1 conference mark, as the Tigers finished No. 5 in the final Baseball America rankings. LSU played host to an NCAA Regional tournament for the 14th straight season and captured its eighth consecutive regional title. The Tigers entertained Baylor in an NCAA Super Regional series, defeating the Bears in two of three games to earn LSU’s first CWS berth since 2000. LSU also set an NCAA total attendance record in 2003, drawing 291,676 patrons to Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers’ shortstop, Aaron Hill, was named 2003 SEC Player of the Year and a first-team all-American. Hill was the first-round draft selection (13th pick overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays. The magnificent ‘03 campaign augmented the success Laval enjoyed in his inaugural season as LSU's coach, as he led the 2002 Tigers to a 44-22 overall mark, an appearance in the NCAA Super Regional and a No. 11 final national ranking. Laval, named the 2002 Louisiana Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association, continued the phenomenal tradition of excellence created by his predecessor, the legendary Skip Bertman. Laval, who served seven seasons (1994-00) as the head coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, assumed control of the LSU program from Bertman, who led the Tigers to five NCAA championships and 11 College World Series appearances during an18-year (1984-2001) tenure. Laval worked as Bertman's top assistant coach for 10 seasons (1984-93), helping lead LSU to its first two NCAA titles in 1991 and 1993. During Laval's 10 years as assistant coach, LSU posted a 483-182-1 record, won five SEC titles, appeared in six College World Series and captured two national championships. Laval helped Bertman create what became the nation's No. 1 college baseball program. Accordingly, Bertman rewarded Laval with the opportunity to perpetuate the Tigers' outstanding heritage. Laval was known at LSU as one of the nation's best recruiters and brightest assistant coaches, as the Tigers reached the College World Series in only the third season (1986) of the Bertman-Laval regime. LSU followed the '86 CWS appearance with Omaha berths in 1987, 1989 and 1990 before the Tigers claimed the school's first baseball national title in 1991. After LSU captured its second NCAA crown in 1993, Laval departed Baton Rouge to become the head coach at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe). During his assistant coaching tenure at LSU, Laval -- who worked as the Tigers' primary recruiter - tutored 24 players who would eventually reach the major leagues. Some of the major leaguers with whom Laval worked with include all-stars Albert Belle (Cleveland, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore) and Paul Byrd (New York Mets, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Atlanta, Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland), and first-round draft picks Ben McDonald (Baltimore, Milwaukee), Rick Greene (Cincinnati, Minnesota), Todd Walker (Minnesota, Colorado, Cincinnati, Boston, Chicago Cubs) and Russ Johnson (Houston, Tampa Bay, New York Mets, New York Yankees). Laval has also worked as an evaluator for USA Baseball, as he helped select the members of the 2003 U.S. Pan American Games team. Laval compiled a 241-159 (.603) mark as the head coach at ULM, guiding the Indians to NCAA Regional appearances in 1995, 1999 and 2000. The 2000 club posted a 41-22 mark en route to the Southland Conference title, tying the ULM record for wins. Laval, the 1999 SLC Coach of the Year, also led the Indians to the 1999 regular-season title and to the 1995 conference tournament crown. He was voted the 1995 Louisiana Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association. Laval helped make ULM baseball one of the hottest attractions in the Northeast Louisiana region. The Coaches Committee, a baseball booster organization started by Laval, grew from 62 members in its first year to over 200 members by the end of his tenure. Laval supervised major improvements to ULM's Indian Field, including the addition of an outdoor batting facility, a picnic area for Coaches Committee members, renovations to the locker room, a players' lounge, a new sound system and a new scoreboard. Laval began his coaching career in 1977 as an assistant at Jacksonville University before moving to Wolfson High School in Jacksonville as a baseball and football coach. He served as a graduate assistant at LSU in 1979 under former Tiger head coach Jack Lamabe before working two years as an assistant at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla. Laval served as an assistant coach at Florida for two seasons (1982-83) before returning to LSU to work under Bertman. Laval holds a bachelor's degree (1977) from Jacksonville in physical education and a master's degree (1979) from LSU in administration. The McDonald, Pa., native played two seasons at Gulf Coast Community College, where he lettered as a catcher. He completed his playing career at Jacksonville, where he led the ninth-ranked Dolphins in hitting at the 1976 NCAA South Regional. Laval and his wife, Pam, are the parents of two children, Brandon and Jamie.

In 2014, after leading the nation in hitting as a junior, Drew Weeks was selected in the seventh round by the Colorado Rockies and senior David Trexler was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 17th round. In a similar role at Indiana State, McNeil was the camp director and also assisted in various different elements of the recruiting process, video breakdown of the pitching staff and the coordination of alumni events. He also played a pivotal part in the summer placement of the Sycamore underclassmen.

On the summer collegiate baseball circuit, McNeil was the pitching coach for the Dan-ville Dans of the Prospect League who were a final four team in the summer of 2014. Pitchers under his tutelage that season in-cluded current North Florida hurlers, Bryan Baker and Corbin Olmstead.
